Phoebe Hewitt doesn’t take shit from anyone, but she sure will dish it out in spades. It’s been that way for as long as the Harpy has been drawing breath, and she wouldn’t change it if she could. Even from childhood, she had been unruly. Her parents, a mixed species couple, didn’t know what to do with her…especially her father. The Satyr didn’t mean to fall in love with a Harpy, but he hadn’t thought much about it until his daughter was born possessing the characteristic traits of her mother’s species. When even Phoebe’s mother couldn’t control her daughter’s outbursts, he threw up his hands and left the Harpies to make their own way in the world.
Amwell Township, New Jersey, was no place for a woman and child on their own, so the Harpy took her daughter south, taking a job as a seamstress in a small town in the Virginia colony. Without the presence of her father, the girl floundered, getting into one embarrassing predicament after another until she was old enough to leave the nest. The first thing she did after leaving her mother’s care was venture back to Amwell Township in search of her father. She found him, after months of searching, living with a Satyr female he had taken as his wife. Phoebe didn’t speak to him, instead stalking him throughout the years, always staying a town or city away trying to work up the nerve to ask him why he abandoned her. When her father had another child, a son named Alexander, the Harpy stayed away as long as she could. It proved to be too long.
When she finally tracked the family of Satyrs down, they were living in Atlanta. Her brother, now an adolescent, was unruly and wild…exactly as she had been. Just as Phoebe had decided to reach out to them, her father and his wife were killed by Solomon’s Judgment, all because Alex exposed his true self to a human. Her brother survived, and the Harpy cleaned up his mess. She stayed in the city, watching him from afar and helping where she could, but never truly forgiving him for the death of their father. When Alex began searching for the prophecy, she took a job at his coffee bar in order to be close to whatever answers he found. The fact that he is her brother is something she kept secret until recently, finally telling him over one too many glasses of wine at his loft. It’s caused some tension, some disbelief, and some high emotions, but she’s confident it was the right move to make.
Phoebe is not a nice person. She is outspoken, fiery, and brash…all of which make people wary about opening up to her. She is honest though, and will speak the truth to someone no matter how much it may not be what they want to hear. Her confidence and her intellectual ability make people willing to put up with her, even if it is in small doses. Alex, her brother, rather enjoys her outspoken ways, even if he doesn’t realize they are related. For her part, Phoebe is fond of the Satyr, but does not know if she can forgive him for the death of her father. As far as any other mythic or human goes, Phoebe can take them or leave them and refuses to get overly close to anyone. She plays nice only on the surface, and as infrequently as she possibly can.
