David Tennant as CAMPBELL BAIN in Takinā Over The Asylum | Ep.2
Itās dangerous to go alone. Take this.
How are penguins not extinct?
I am in tears omg
whoever timed the film to the music is fucking brilliant this is gorgeous and oh my god i know theyāre made of a lot of fat/blubber but this gave me like seven heart attacks
The appalling travesty that was BBCās Sherlock has infested the Sherlock Holmes fandom like a malignant tumour so I want you all to know how awesome the OG literary Holmes was:
The literary Sherlock Holmes was an autistic coded character before people knew what autism was.
The literary Sherlock Holmes was an explicitly aromantic character before people had a word for that.
Literary Holmes solved mysteries not merely for the intellectual stimulation but also out of a genuine desire to do good. He cared deeply about every client. HE WAS NOT A HIGH-FUNCTIONING SOCIOPATH! He could definitely be insensitive and blunt but he was not callous or unfeeling.
Literary Sherlock threatened to beat a guy who was being creepy with his own stepdaughter.
Literary Sherlock learned to grow past his misogyny after a woman outsmarted him.
In particular, he was always respectful to Mrs Hudson, never belittling or talking down to her (the otherwise enjoyable Guy Ritchie films screw this up too). In fact, they got along so well that they were actually a very popular ship back in the day.
Literary Holmes would NEVER call Watson an idiot. He was his only friend who he loved and respected, even if he did get frustrated with him sometimes. He didnāt need to belittle others to feel powerful.
Literary Holmes and Watson broke into a corrupt manās house and witnessed him being murdered by a woman he was blackmailing. They knew exactly who she was but they let her get away because they were chaotic good like that.
Literary Holmes had HUMILITY: something a smug prig like Steven Moffat will never understand. He could be arrogant but he had a sense of humour and was willing to admit when he was wrong. And he was wrong sometimes because he was a flawed human being, not some gross male power fantasy.
Literary Holmes respected the working class and was often disdainful of the rich. In Victorian England!
Literary Holmes indirectly caused the death of a guy who abused (and implicitly molested) his daughters and he didnāt give a single fuck about it.
At the end of the series, Holmes retires to Sussex to keep bees. Beekeepers are awesome.
I will reblog this always.

āOh Bear, we are going to miss you so much. He unexpectedly passed away sometime in his sleep this morning, causes unknown. Iād like to think his home planet called him back, his research mission completed. While it was shorter than expected, we are happy for the time we had with him. Iām letting the grief run its course, and part of that will probably result in a lot of drawings. Give your animals a lot of scratches and pets from me. ā¤ļøĀ ā

Love logging on to tumblr dot com and seeing posts about why libraries should be Cancelled because they donāt pull problematique books
Also letās be real, Problematic Books are one of the strongest arguments for librariesā continued existence?
Letās say you need an outdated queer theory textbook that uses biphobic and cissexist rhetoric for your gender studies thesis, but you donāt particularly want to own that book.
Letās say you need a primary source to strengthen your argument to your college as to why a certain political figure does not deserve to be a speaker at your graduation because they perpetuate hate speech.
Letās say you and your friends want to hateread a book by your least favorite author but you donāt want to give him your money.
You deserve the ability to access that content legally without having to purchase and own it. And so does everyone else, no matter how suspicious you might be of their motives for reading a Problematic book.
When I was doing my masters in library science, they reiterated over and over: there should be something in a library to offend everyone. Believe me. There are books in my library that I find offensive. But my job is to provide access. Not to question WHY people need stuff or to judge them. Libraries should function as a neutral space. We are providing information, which in and of itself is neutral. Itās what people DO with that information that matters. And even then, itās not my place to judge.
When I was in college, I was doing a paper for an African-American Studies class, and I found myself suddenly in need of info on exactly what sort of self-justification white people were using during the days of slavery.
And I found one in the college library.Ā An original slave-ownerās apologia from eighteen hundred or so.
Nasty stuff.Ā But studying the mechanics of evil is a useful pursuit.Ā One that has relevance in todayās world, certainly.
(My African-American Studies professor thought so too; he gave me an A.)
The point being, no matter how bad a book is, there is value in preserving itāif only to demonstrate, āThis, this right here, this is a bad thing.āĀ Mein Kampf?Ā Worth picking through to note the psychology of a depraved leader.Ā (Did you know that Hitler framed every damn thing as a war, including farming, which he characterized as wrestling food from an unwilling land, or some such bullshit?Ā Might be a characteristic worth paying attention to.Ā Be cautious about leaders who use āwarā rhetoric for things that arenāt actually wars, such as ⦠oh, to pull an example out of a hat, how about ādrugs.ā)Ā Slavery apologia?Ā Leans heavily into Biblical justification, from the one I read, so maybe, just maybe, we should examine Biblical justifications very carefully.Ā Even the worst stuff teaches us things.
Which is part of what a library is there for.
I will fight for all the books, even the shitty ones, and I donāt care if you mad, bro. Censorship is discrimination. For every Christian supremacy book or extremist conservative propaganda I have to circ, I also circ things like the transgender workbook or gay parenting for dads.
Think of the book you think is the most problematic.
There are people who look at queer books the exact same way. Or Islamic books. Or books about puberty. Books about anything they disagree with, like, even fairytales are satanās curse to the right person - and some go far enough to burn or mutilate those books.
Think about it.
You gotta protect all of it to have any of it.
I know itās illegal but whenever I get antibiotics from the doctor I save a few and give them to friends or coworkers who donāt have insurance so that when cold season comes they might be able to shorten their illness
That is not good- thatās not quite how antibiotics work.
Antibiotics kill some bacteria, but donāt manage to kill other bacteria. Just like when you get a particular sickness (or a vaccination), your body can protect you from future infections, any bacteria that came into contact with the antibiotic is protected from future doses of that antibiotic. Bacteria are very virulent breeders, so they spawn more resistant bacteria.
If you take the full dose of antibiotics, your natural antibodies can deal with the cells that are resistant while the medicine kills off the bacteria that isnāt resistant. If you donāt take the full course of antibiotics, then your body has to deal with both the resistant and the non-resistant strains of bacteria, and it can become overwhelming. Also, most bacteria are able to pass on genes between still-living cells, so that previously non-resistant strains become resistant, and you have inadvertently cultivated a stronger strain of bacteria.
Furthermore, colds and the flu are viral infections, so antibiotics donāt work against them anyway. The best protection against viral infections are vaccinations, as there are not many viruses that we have developed anti-viral medication against, once you already have the disease. If there are anti-viral medications, it is even more important that you take the full dose of the medication, because anti-viral medication is even harsher against the body than antibacterial medication is.
How antibiotics work
How antiviral medication works
Spread this around; antibiotics are not candy
To put it shortly: antibiotics donāt do shit for the cold. You need to take the entire bottle that is prescribed to you. People not doing that is how antibiotic resistant infections crop up. People like OP are literally why diseases like MRSA exist.
OP shouldnāt feel bad about good intentions but this is really dangerous. Thereās also the risk that your friends are allergic to the specific type of antibiotics you give them.
things that a better-off person can do for their sick less-well-off friends that donāt involve breeding superbacteria through misue of antibiotics:
Buy them cold medicineĀ
Buy them cough drops
Buy them fancy tissues with lotion
Make them too much soup to eat in one go and freeze half for later
Find them a low-cost clinic and accompany them there
Tell them you are giving them their dayās wages and they are staying home Friday/Monday and then do.
Go to their house. Wash the dishes, take out the garbage, walk the dog, scoop the cat or just plain change the whole litter box, clean the bathtub and mom voice them until they take a hot shower or steam their head.
if they have asthma or bronchitis and are out of inhaler but you have a half-full one, that is a thing you can sanitize and share.
ditto palliative prescription medication likeĀ āI have half a bottle of lidocaine gargle, you want it?āĀ āI am bringing you the rest of my Robitussin with codeineāĀ āhere harvest some ibuprofen from my giant bottle of 1,000 ibuprofenā
I feel like some of this should have been covered in high school health class. It would do a lot to combat misuse of antibiotics. Superbacteria is really dangerous for everyone but is particularly bad for people with multiple antibiotic allergies and will lead to hospital stays for IV antibiotics of kinds they can take.
Agreed. High school health class curricula simply havenāt been set up to take into account a future in which the middle class has dissolved and a huge chunk of Americans canāt afford to go to a doctor if they get a cold. - _ -
Last year, I had caught a bad case of strep throat. I usually get it a couple of times a year because my tonsils suck, but this time it was BAD. I was taking amoxicillin like I had been before, but nothing was happening. I was still sick 2 weeks later. I told my doctor and he gave me a different antibiotic and it cleared up.
I was telling one of my friends about all of it, and he says āOh do you need some amoxicillin? I never finished my bottle when I got strep because it went away after like 3 daysā.
Like a week before I got sick, that same friend and I were out having dinner, and we shared a bit of food. This asshat gave me an amoxicillin-resistant strain of strep throat because he didnāt finish his antibiotics. I couldnāt eat anything solid and could barely drink for 2 weeks because someone thought he was āfeeling better and didnāt need medicineā.
Finish your god damn antibiotics people!!!!
Yeah, i was taught this in year 3. This is just another thing you americans can add to your āwhy our our educational system is crapā list and its really scary how this isnt common knowledge there

well itās been fun guys but the police are shutting down my account because I said an anime sucks
this is such a weird way of phrasing āMillenials go hungry because of financial crisis we causedā
āWhy then do they not eat cake?ā
no offense but thereās not a group i hate more than rich white kids going into thrift stores with their $99 kanken bags and their $50+ doc martens looking for cheap clothes for the (white) Art Hoe Aesthetique⢠when everyone knows full well their allowances can buy out an American Apparel
itās so funny how all these people are likeĀ āthis is so rude opā but legit the kids that do this will go in there for their stupid aesthetic photos and then make fun of the kids who canāt afford anything else lol so seriously fuck them
