Rosetta Sun on TikTok comparing ZombSt Sua to Bear infuriated me so much.

I’m a new-fan to Vivinos’ Stages, but I’ve learnt enough about ZombSt Sua to be able to add my two cents to her comparison.

I think Sua does genuinely care about her relationship with Mizi because it is a co-dependency. She cannot live without Mizi but also values Mizi’s life over her own, which is why fans speculate that Sua purposefully sabotaged herself in ALNST Round 1 and the reason behind why they argued about Mizi smoking in ZombSt and Sua getting herself infected [ along with the constant kissing scenes repeated throughout Candy Scar to further show this ]

Bear, on the other hand, didn’t care about Nikki. He wanted her to love him more than anything else in the world, but immediately wanted to back out of it the second things got too hard. He didn’t know anything about Nikki, like her relationship with her dad or anything about her writing, he only wanted her artificially.

Sua and Bear are both obsessive to the person they say they love, but Sua shows that she actually cares about Mizi in a twisted way.

Rosetta Sun suggests that audiences don’t give Sua enough criticism for kissing Mizi and infecting herself in ZombSt because she’s a woman. I’ve had Sun blocked for a while, but it was also brought to my attention that Sun ships MiziTill while criticising MiziSua / Sua, so her bias is very much shown here and even may come off as lesphobic to some

In the Pilot, Pomni was interested in her own goals of escaping, scared for Ragatha but still absolutely terrified in her new environment with the massive Kaufmo-Abstraction chasing after her. I could only guess that her blue right glove indicates her lack of faith and trust in the group as she hadn’t had a chance to connect with anyone yet.

In Episode 8, Pomni was interested in their goals of the group; finally getting comfortable around them and integrating into their small community, doing everything she could to help them. Her red left glove suggesting she’s ready to go into danger as long as that means she can lend a hand to help those she loves and cares about.

This, because nobody actually understands Ragatha at all.

The fandom suggests that she has a character reset at the start of each episode, however if they understood her desire to be well-liked and helpful around the circus, people would know that she only does this to boost morale and to keep others happy in a way that Caine can’t even provide [ Eg. Pomni reacting negatively: “ I’m not a child, you don’t have to hype me up “ because this is her first adventure and Ragatha had already had an awkward conversation with her that very morning. ]

People complain that the recent episodes, that were narratively constructed around Jax and Ragatha, only focus on Jax’s character development but that’s because the audience refuses to acknowledge Ragatha, and lets their love or hatred for Jax get in the way of her development [ Finally being able to open up about her own problems / not ignoring her own issues to help others - Conversation with Kinger: “ Do you hate yourself ? “ ]

Ragatha is the best, we love her so much

The Hazbin Hotel fandom is guilty of cultural appropriation in regard to handling Alastor’s Louisianan-Creole culture and his characterisation. Albeit Alastor has very little compelling characterisation to begin with.

How many times does Alastor mention jambalaya and his appreciation for the dish? Once. Barely even once - at the very end of the pilot episode that is barely considered canon anymore due to the official show contradicting established ideas from the pilot [ Eg. Lucifer Morningstar’s characterisation ].

It should also be acknowledged that Vivsiepop had to change Alastor to identify as a Creole man because she was receiving backlash for his usage of voodoo magic, which I think should be explored more rather than flashy displays of nothing in his battles [ such as against Adam in Season 1, or The V’s in Season 2 ]

Due to the ashy complexions of her two explicitly black/mixed characters, the mention of jambalaya must’ve been to reference his culture more directly. However, because of this, a particular side of the fandom [ specifically on TikTok ] has done nothing but base his character around this one aspect of his dialogue.

Alastor, and other characters like him, should not be reduced down to a single cultural-characteristic of ‘enjoying and only talking about this food’. I believe that this wouldn’t be avoidable if the script was changed to say another dish. The fandom would still find a way to make his personality revolve around their own limited understanding of creole culture;

influencing this representation to be used in the fan base’s discussions of Alastor and potentially other fandoms [ not to the same extent, but one character I can think of is Hajime Hinata from Danganronpa 2 and the fandom’s obsession with him and orange juice. Note that this is not to the same extent and should not be treated as a similarity or a direct comparison, but rather as an acknowledgement of fandom and how they treat their characters from my own experience ]

Overall, Vivsiepop and the Hazbin Hotel fandom should be doing more to represent Alastor’s culture to the extent that it isn’t forced but also not lazy and rushed.
