"Figure in Mountain Landscape '98", Peter Doig (RCA Secret Show).  This is one of Doig's most recognizable images.  In June 2005 a larger version of this image (an oil painting with the same title measuring 36 by 30 inches) sold at Sotheby's for 254,400 GBP.  The Sotheby's Catalogue Note accompanying the painting states that there are only four versions of the "Figure in Mountain Landscape" painting.  Sotheby's is mistaken; this postcard is a fifth. The basis for the title was a Francis Bacon painting from the collection of the Kunsthalle, Zurich.  The image itself, however, is based on a 1935 Joachim Gauthier photograph of Franklin Carmichael painting on the hillsides at Grace Lake, Northern Ontario.

Untitled, George Melly (RCA Secret Show 1997).  With less than a month to go until the 2009 RCA Secret Show, I'm reminded of the first year I attended the Show 12 years ago when I bought this abstract postcard by George Melly, the eccentric jazz and blues singer, film critic, and art lecturer.

Untitled (blue diver, beeswax on board), by Christina O'Regan.  This is one of my favorite paintings.  The implied detail.  The color and texture.  The feeling of being underwater.  It's a fine example of why I love the RCA Secret Show.
