by the way it's fine to like sexual content just for the sake of it. "we can't ban porn because other stuff will get banned" "sometimes nude art has value" "the government will classify queer people as sexual" this is all true but it's okay to just like porn. its okay to not want porn to be banned because you like it.

I dunno, stop apologizing for your art. This includes not posting enough, too much, changing style, inconsistent style, repetition, subject. Its your art its your expression. Have fun.

Dan's reaction to Phil giving him space to talk about his interests
Not the anon who asked, but I just watched tbv for the 5th time because it's so good! I had last watched dnp casually in 2018 or so, but now became a post hard launch phannie, essentially because it's such a good video Like I love the phan of it all of course and dnp as people but it was really because I was impressed with the storytelling, the humor, the pacing, and the seamless banter in that video that I seriously thought to myself (with now 10ish more years of video watching experience to compare to, plus personal life development, and youtube cultural evolution like video essays are a thing) "wow, these guys really know what they are doing and have some special magic" and then got really into them (I've hardly watched anything else since October) I think the lack of emotional baggage makes tbv a different experience for me, because I basically grin the whole way through. Dnp did a great job making it appeal to any level of viewer imo (I now know a lot of the lore, but when I first saw it). But it's also just so comfortable? Like not one iota of awkward Anyway, just wanted to share <3
[x] THANK YOU for bringing this up I can't recall if I talked about this the day that tbv dropped but put all the respect on tbv's name not only as the video that shifted 2010s culture forever but also as one of the best pieces of work of dnp's career. they've done amazing stuff (obviously) but to handle what was inarguably their most sensitive video in history as if it was a regular monday upload is craaaazy and I don't mean they handled it lazily. they handled it like they handle anything else. that's how much grace they had throughout the process—that setting aside the bidirectional lighting and the crafted intro and the chapter markers, for many intents and purposes, it was a dnp video. another dnp video. it's probably a little funny to call real people OOC but that's exactly what they weren't—they were themselves from 00:00 to 46:38, they never ducked behind a carefully written script to protect a tender spot, even though they would have definitely been excused if they had needed to. they were funny. they were incisive and insightful. they were going off that tried-and-true dnp dynamic exactly like they've been doing it for years. I know you said it was different for you because you could experience the video without all the emotional baggage many others carried going into it, but even for me, the hard launch as a whole being one of the craziest most emotional experiences of my life, I forgot what I was even watching halfway through. I was laughing. I was enjoying their discussion and analysis of the phandom and their experiences with us. laughing! right before I started crying again. that tells you something. they are fantastic at their jobs. and more than that I think the ease with which they carried out the video—with, like you said, not an iota of awkward—also says so much about how prepared they were for it. they were so so ready. they were bursting to get out there and be free and ridiculous and love each other all out in the open. and it was a ride. it was amazing. past the point of wanting to sob about it, I actually really enjoy rewatching it from time to time and you've given me a great excuse <3
Thank you, Phil Lester.
