i've managed to keep jealousy in check for most of my academic life, but i think the looming prospect of grad school applications is bringing out the worst in me. it's just that i want it so badly – the career in science, to be good at what i do, to do something that matters – and when i see people on that path, i have to work to keep envy from being the first thing i feel.

the thing about jealousy, though, is that it's ultimately counterproductive - it stifles my curiosity, my drive, my excitement for the future. it won't be easy, but i'll keep pushing myself to focus on those feelings and prioritize healthy ambition over misplaced discontent.

my teenage self would be so jealous of where i am right now. it's not just the lab work or the fact that i'm getting ready to apply to grad school – i have friends who make me feel seen and professors who encourage me to reach my full potential. for the first time it feels like i'm in charge of my own life.

it also doesn't hurt that i just got an excellent grade on my biochem lab report – some things, like my need for academic validation, never change.

my finals are over!! my first year of graduate school finished... I didn't take any pictures during the week while studying besides this one at the library haha. also i found a professor to start research with over the summer, the first assignment is to help with a supernova Ia literature search :D

Finals are over, so my first year of grad school is too! I'm still really anxious to hear back about my grades, but it'll be pretty easy to distract myself with all of the things I neglected to do when I was drowning in final assignments, studying, and anxiety (looking at you, giant pile of laundry).
