AFAS Circustheater: Laura and her Phantom memory: “I started as a dresser at ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’ 27 years ago. I loved theatre, but I didn’t really know what the business was about, so I was kind of nervous. The team of dressers was pretty big, and I got the hang of it pretty fast. I started dressing the male ensemble and after that the women ensemble. The show was a huge succes and in 3 years we played more than 1000 shows. It’s no secret that during ‘Het Spookt Hier In De Opera’ 3 couples are on stage as Christine and Phantom. Couple 1 walked on the bridge, couple 2 walked on stage so they could go in to a hole in the ground eventually and couple 3 were our real Christine (Joke de Kruijf) and Spook (Henk Poort) in the boat. Sometimes people were ill and there were some ‘gaten’ in the ensemble and also not enough girls to dubble Christine. Eventually they asked me to walk across the bridge during the number. I got one rehearsal and a fitting and that evening I was on. I was a double for 25 times. It was a lot of fun!
