On 4th January 2019, 51 year old Lee Pomeroy was travelling by train to London with his 14 year old son, both on their way to spend some quality time together and with relatives. It was during this train journey that Lee accidentally bumped into a man named Darren Pencille (35), who was travelling with a woman named Chelsea Mitchell (27), and an altercation ensued. However, for Pencille, this issue could not be resolved through conversation and he proceeded to stab Lee nine times; all while his teenage son watched helplessly. Sadly, Lee did not survive the attack. Pencille was arrested and charged with murder, whereas Mitchell was apprehended for assisting an offender. The trial is due to commence in June, but apparently both still deny the charges. What makes this case even more upsetting is that “devoted dad” Lee was ready to celebrate his 52nd birthday the next day, but was not around to experience it due to an act of senseless and brutal violence.
UPDATE:
Darren Pencille has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 28 years, for the murder of Lee Pomeroy. More recent sources have reported that Lee was stabbed 18 times in 25 seconds, and it has also emerged that Pencille suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and has consistently refused treatment. Shockingly, Pencille was assessed by a psychiatrist just 24 hours before the crime took place, and he was deemed to be “no risk to himself or to others.” Darren Pencille’s girlfriend and accomplice, Chelsea Mitchell, has also been found guilty of assisting an offender after she bought him products which helped to alter his appearance in order to evade arrest.

Annie McCann was only 16 years-old when she was found deceased under suspicious circumstances on November 2nd, 2008. The teen lived in Fairfax, Virginia at the time, and she was last seen by her family on either the evening of October 30th, 2008, or on the morning of October 31st, 2008. The 31st was a Friday, and according to Annie’s father Daniel McCann, it began as a typical day. Before he left for work that morning, he peeked into Annie’s room and saw what he thought was the shape of her body under the covers. Thinking that Annie would wake up shortly thereafter and get herself to school, Annie’s father left for work.
Annie’s mother Mary Jane McCann was out of town that day, however she still expected a phone call from Annie once Annie returned home from school. When that phone call never came, she called her husband to ask if he had heard from their daughter. Daniel immediately left work to see if Annie had made it home from school. When he arrived, he learned that Annie had never gone to school at all that day–as her school had left a voicemail notifying her family of her absence. Later, Annie’s parents found a note from Annie that she had left behind–it stated that she was depressed and had been contemplating suicide, but instead she decided to just run away and start fresh. After finding the note, Annie’s parents realized that Annie took $1000 in cash, clothing, some snacks, and their family’s white Volvo that she usually drove to school. Upon this discovery, Annie’s parents immediately reported her missing.
Just days later, on November 2nd, 2008, police in Baltimore, Maryland were notified about a body that was found behind a dumpster near the Perkins Homes Housing Project–located an approximate hour drive away from the McCann home. It did not take authorities very long to identify the body as that of Annie McCann. Her backpack was found near her body, which contained her driver’s license and school identification. The white Volvo she was driving was found abandoned at a nearby gas station. The car was checked for fingerprints, and a print matching a local Baltimore teen named Darnell Kinlaw was found.
Police questioned Darnell, who told them that he and a group of friends happened to come across Annie’s unlocked car in Baltimore. Darnell stated that they noticed Annie in the backseat–presumably dead–so they dumped her body behind the dumpster near the Perkins Home before taking the car for a “joyride.” While this story seemed suspicious, police did not charge Darnell or his friends with anything related to Annie’s case. In fact, authorities were quick to announce that they did not believe foul play was involved in Annie’s death. An autopsy determined that Annie had a significant amount of lidocaine in her system at the time of her death. A bottle of bactine was found in the backseat of Annie’s car, and her DNA was found at the lip of the bottle. A medical examiner determined that Annie died of lidocaine poisoning. The cause of death was a ruled a suicide.
Annie’s parents were not satisfied with the investigation’s findings. They did not believe that Annie took her own life, nor did they believe she voluntarily ingested bactine. The McCanns decided to launch an investigation of their own, during which evidence was discovered that suggested Annie’s death might have not been a suicide after all.

Patti Krieger was 65-years-old when she vanished from the Sauk Mountain Trail in 2010. While disappearances of lone hikers are sadly not uncommon, Patti wasn’t alone. In fact, she was with six other people as well as her faithful Rottweiler, Bear. They all made it off of that mountain. Patti, meanwhile, is still nowhere to be found.
Among the other people in the group were Patti’s boyfriend, 42-year-old Larry Pressley, a relative of his, Troy Robinson, Robinson’s girlfriend, Nichole Gardner, and three other relatives of Larry. They had headed to the mountain that day to scatter the ashes of Larry’s parents, but after the ceremony, they said Patti had separated herself from the group, going down a different trail along with Bear. They said that they had called out to her to ask her where she was going, but that for whatever reason, she didn’t respond. Assuming the trails would join together again at some point, the group carried on without her. It was four hours later when Larry reported Patti missing, after stopping off for some burritos and beer.
It wasn’t until Patti didn’t turn up for work the next day, however, that any of her family realised something was wrong. Her co-workers got in touch with her son, who went over to his mother’s house to find out where she was. It was then that he discovered Patti and her dog had disappeared the night before, although strangely, the hiking group were in possession of her phone, car keys and ID.
A search of Sauk Mountain was launched by police that included the use of a helicopter and infrared cameras, but they didn’t turn up any clues. Patti’s son, co-workers and friends continued to search by foot, although the sheriff believed that she was no longer on the mountain - dogs had tracked her scent down to the car park at the bottom of the trail. Twenty-six days after their search began, Bear was discovered wandering a nearby mountain road. But there was still no sign of Patti.
Larry and his friends had been living at Patti’s house, and her family soon heard sightings of Larry driving around in her luxury cars. They went over to the residence, but Larry wouldn’t let them in, so they eventually got a court order to gain access to her home. Once inside, they found it trashed; beers cans everywhere, her safe emptied.
Naturally, suspicions began to turn towards Larry. Prior to meeting him, Patti had been married to a successful real estate investor, Jason Graham, who passed away in 2006. Jason was an associate of Larry’s, who got wind of his passing while he was serving time in prison. Upon his release he got in touch with Patti, and said that Jason had asked him to take care of her should anything ever happen.
Patti soon fell for his charms, although their happy union didn’t last long. She told co-workers about his short temper, and of finding a gun as well as a stash of marijuana hidden behind a wall in her home. She also told friends that the pair didn’t have a physical relationship because Larry was impotent, although it later transpired he was sleeping with several other women, and even ended up getting one pregnant.
Less than one year after Patti vanished, Larry married Dawnica Mejia-Lard. Police came to search their house after Larry was arrested for assaulting a police officer, where they found drugs and a number of stolen weapons, including one that belonged to a homicide victim. It wasn’t Larry’s first time in trouble with the law. He had more than 30 previous convictions. Nevertheless, Larry plead guilty to his charge and was sentenced to three years in prison, while Dawnica, his new wife, took the rap for the other charges. She was sentenced to twelve years.
Dawnica handed over her power of attorney to a friend, who went over to the couple’s house to go through her belongings. While she was over there, she found a backpack in the attach - the same one that Larry had used during the hike. It appeared to be covered in blood. Patti’s son turned the backpack over to police, but it is unclear if any further evidence was found.
Patti was physically fit and training for a marathon at the time of her disappearance, but she was not an experienced hiker and was not dressed for cold weather. She has been neither seen nor heard from since the day of the hike on October 2, 2010, and has been legally declared dead. Though it is almost a decade since Patti disappeared, her friends and family hold out hope for that one missing piece that may finally solve the puzzle. They still want some answers. But more than that, they want to bring her home.
In the November of 2012, 13-year-old Dylan Redwine diappeared without a trace while visiting his father’s home, Mark Redwine, in Colorado, Denver. It wasn’t until several months later, in 2013, that Dylan’s remains were found scattered across mountains in Colorado. What was initially a missing child case was now a murder investigation. Two years later, in 2015, Dylan’s skull was found just 1.5 miles away from his father’s home. Forensic examination of the skull determined that there were signs of blunt force trauma and marks from a knife that were most likely made after Dylan had died. Cadaver dog’s even found the scent of a dead body in various locations in the father’s home and on the clothes Dylan wore the night he disappeared. It is also known that blood was found in multiple locations in the living room of Mark’s home, including the couch. In 2014, the cadaver dog also picked up the scent of a body in the back of Mark’s pickup truck. After the findings, Mark became the prime suspect in his son’s murder but constantly denied the accusations as well as denying any involvement in his son’s death so much so that he even appeared on Dr. Phil and suggested his ex-wife may have killed Dylan. On 22 July, 2017, Mark Redwine was arrested and charged with the murder of his son, Dylan Redwine. Although Mark had been a person of interest for a number of years, it is unknown why it took so long for police to arrest him. Mark’s motive for killing his son is unknown, Dylan’s older brother, Cory, suggested that the motive may have been the fact that he and Dylan had come across some photos of Mark wearing make-up and dressed in women’s clothing. In the photos, Mark was eating faeces out of a pair of underwear. Cory believed that Dylan tried to confront his father about the photos, but instead, Mark killed him in a fit of rage. Mark was indicted for second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death in July of 2017. If convicted at trial in 2018, he faces anywhere from 16 to 48 years behind bars.

On 4 February, 2014, 15-year-old Corriann Cervantes from Clear Lake, Texas, had been grounded by her father after he found out she was attempting to skip school. That same day, when Corriann’s father went grocery shopping, she decided to sneak out to meet a friend and they smoked marijuana together. Afterwards, she and her friend went to the apartment of a local middle-aged woman known as “Candy” who allowed teens to smoke and drink at her place. Corriann was heavily intoxicated and explained to Candy how she couldn’t return home as her father had probably locked her out and so she asked to stay the night. A number of other teens later arrived at Candy’s apartment, two of them being 17-year-old Jose Reyes and his friend, 16-year-old Victor Alas. Jose had already sold his soul to the devil, and Victor was trying to accomplish the same. In an attempt to also sell his soul to the devil, Victor asked Jose if it was possible if murdering a female would account for selling his soul to which he said yes. With this knowledge, both Jose and Victor had a brewed a sinister and heinous plan and decided that together, they would perform a satanic ritual in which they would rape, bludgeon, and mutilate a female as an initiation rite. Upon arrival at Candy’s apartment, the duo found a target — Corriann. They lured her to a vacant apartment where Jose proceeded to have consensual sex with her, however, the consensual sex turned into a horrific rape. They began to stab Corriann in the face and in the body a number of times with a screwdriver. When she tried to escape, she was bludgeoned in the face further with the lid of a toilet tank and an ashtray. Begging for her life, Jose then gouged out her eye. After all of the torture, Corriann was put out of her misery and strangled and one of the boy’s carved an upside-down cross into her abdomen. After the gruesome and horrific murder, Jose later bragged to two people explicit details about what they had done to 15-year-old Corriann, and someone reported him to the police
A few days later, on 7 February, a neighbour was passing by when he noticed the apartment door was open. When he opened the door, he discovered Corriann’s disfigured half-naked corpse, was surrounded by religious items placed in a circle, torn clothes and the upside-down cross on her abdomen. The neighbour immediately alerted police. The pair were later arrested and confessed. Jose explained how he was just doing what the devil told him to do.
In 2015, both Jose Reyes and Victor Alas were tried and convicted of capital murder and were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Racheal Wiest (16) was murdered by her ex-boyfriend Jacob Boyd (17) on May 25th, 2015. The two teens met at their high school in Irving, Texas and began dating in spring of 2014. However, Racheal’s parents did not allow her to date, so she hid her relationship with Jacob from them–often telling them she was with friends when she was actually with him. Unbeknownst to her family members, Racheal was withdrawing from her friends as well, as she opted to spend most of her free time with Jacob.
Overtime, though, it appeared that Jacob had a significant amount of control over Racheal. Jacob would reportedly send Racheal dozens of text messages at a time, and then threaten to kill himself if she did not respond. He would pressure her into having sex multiple times a day, but then would call her a whore afterwards. Additionally, when Racheal attempted to break-up with Jacob, he changed her Facebook password and refused to give it to her until she agreed to date him again.
In early May 2015, Racheal broke up with Jacob yet again. Two weeks later, on May 25th, Racheal and Jacob met up at a mutual friend’s house to discuss potentially rekindling their relationship. Jacob attempted to initiate sex, but Racheal refused. This angered Jacob; he subsequently grabbed Racheal’s phone and threw it to the floor. Then, he attacked Racheal proceeded to choke her to death. The friend stumbled upon the scene and immediately called 911 while attempting CPR to Racheal. Unfortunately, it was too late–she had already passed away. Police arrived on the scene and arrested Jacob. He was charged with murder.
In January 2016, Jacob was found guilty of Racheal’s murder. He was sentenced to 80 years in prison and will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
