ok so fun fact about being a channel islander is that unless you can prove you have direct ties to the uk you don't qualify for a full british passport (and back in the day EU rights) and since my parents never married i couldn't take my dads passport (start of my england hatred) so me and my mum would often have to go through a different passport queue to him esp travelling through the EU. so this is how we ended up in the lisbon airport security line in 2007 with my poor mother getting questioned because i was small and blonde and we had different surnames. thankfully they let us go once my dad was found but still. great system!

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
