My therapist has decided I literally have PTSD from church so yay for that validation I guess 🙃🙃🙃

Update: She's now literally told me not to go to church after I had a massive panic attack in her office

I've got the windows open in my apartment while I watch last night's Fundie Fridays and I'm really worried a neighbor is going to walk by and just hear Allie Beth Stuckey and think I'm watching her because I agree with her 🙃🙃🙃

Re-watching Big Love for the first time since like, 2008 and it is wild how the Brown family basically recreated this family's house set up years later right down to the desert back yards lol

Also I'm living for how the show treats it all like a warning from the very first episode, they introduce Short Creek-esque communities, child marriage, and have information/statistics about mormon polygamy right before the credits

There are so many little mormon easter eggs (for lack of a better term lol) that I didn't notice the first time around because I was like, 15 and that was before my interest in mormons really got going. Like the church the family is entangled with us called the UEB 😂 which is a nod to the AUB, a sect of fundamentalists whose most famous members were the Sister Wives family.

It's also way more accurate about the culture of polygamy than you would expect too, I think I had put off a rewatch for a long time because I just assumed since it was almost 20 yrs old it would've exaggerated things to make the story more interesting. And it does mess around with the details a little, like with the recruiting of wives or the nonchalant way the family views sex but I was expecting way worse.

I forget who it was, but I went down a rabbit hole of reading escaped FLDS books in the early days of covid, and I remember one of the women mentioning how in her early days after escaping one of the ways she earned money was sewing costumes for Big Love. I loved learning that little tidbit of how they were getting accurate costumes from someone who knew exactly what she was doing AND supporting someone who had escaped.
