Hometown Hassle
Reality Reviews: Happy Labor Day! It’s been quite a nice and relaxing weekend (with surprisingly few movies watched). There was lots of helping around the folks’ house, however. It makes me feel very good to be able to help them after they’ve done so much for all of us kids. #lovemyfolks! Anyway, I always have a hint of apprehension before coming down to my hometown for a spell. It has nothing to do with seeing my parents- I just dread seeing anyone from high school or childhood. As happy and proud as I am of the life that I’ve made for myself up north, I still feel somewhat inadequate compared to where a lot of old classmates and friends are in their lives. They all seem to be married with kids now. I am definitely NOWHERE near that. I know everyone has their own path to find in life, but it can be hard to remember that when almost everyone here has taken the typical marriage and babies route. Don’t get me wrong, I would NOT change places with any of them. I love that I have gotten away from the small town mindset. I have a completely different view of the world now that I wouldn’t have if I had stayed. I am a more well-rounded person because of it. There are just aspects of my life that haven’t progressed like I thought they would. I thought that I would be closer to marriage at this age. I fear that I have been alone for so long and grown so independent that anything long-term will be too overwhelming. I know that I want to find someone and have a family- that I do know. I just wonder when you should stop saying “oh it will happen when you’re ready,” and start to wonder if you’re doing something wrong. My birthday is coming up soon and I have a hefty goal in place. I think it will be a good test of how committed I am to changing. Stay tuned for my victory or failure update.
Bleh! I hate that this fun movie blog has to have all of the real life crap in it….but it’s my goal to try and use this medium to help deal with some issues that are holding me back. It feels good to get the first life review out of the way. Thanks for reading- ☺
