A stunning rare 59.60 carat internally flawless vivid pink diamond was sold at Sotheby's auctions for a record breaking $83 million. The diamond was bought by New York-based diamond cutter Isaac Wolf and has now set a world auction record for a diamond and any gemstone or jewel. The diamond was locked in a bidding war between four people and sold for $3 million more than it's $80 million estimate.

A poster for James Whale and John L. Balderston's 1931 screen adaptation of Mary Shelley's canonical monster novel Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff sold for $262,900 in July of this year, establishing a new record for an insert movie poster. Insert posters are distinguished from conventional movie posters for being printed on card stock and designed to be inserted into display cases in movie theaters.

Just noticed a star attraction coming to light next month at Christie's Valuable manuscripts and Printed Books auction on November 20; a previously unrecorded copy of the Book of Hours with an estimate of $800,000 to $1.3m. The vellum manuscript was probably illuminated for Queen Claude of France circa 1515.

Hard to believe but contained within are real pieces of both uranium and radium.
