Oct. 8, 1952: âTwo thousand patients made a figurative and wholly delightful hourâs escape from their beds at Bellevue Hospital yesterday,â wrote The Times. The rodeo, an annual event, began with the players riding their horses from Madison Square Garden to the field behind the hospital. âRobert Payne, 10, who has been at the hospital two years with muscular dystrophy, was seeing his second rodeo,â according to the article, which noted that this was the 28th such rodeo.
