zoey decides to bring her girls back home to burbank to meet her dads side of the family (despite having a shit relationship with her dad, she actually gets along really well w his family) and while they’re a bit awkward at first, they do get along well with them.
theyre at a family barbecue in one of her uncles backyard, and at one point rumi asks about this unfinished base of a structure connected to a tree. zoeys uncles tells her it was a tree house he started building for his son, but got hurt and hasnt been able to finish.
rumi and mira have been here for a few days now, so theyre settled in, and they’re gonna be here for a few more weeks, so theres still plenty of time to go to all the places zoey wanted to show them. so they end up offering to help finish it.
now, if you ask her in any other circumstance, mira will tell you herself that almost none of the skills necessary to building a tree house are in her wheelhouse. but this is a part of one of them’s family that they have an uncomplicatedly good relationship with (an honest to god rarity for them), and she’s not squandering the opportunity to impress and endear herself towards them by making something for one of zoey’s cousins
rumi is eager to please and actually does have several of those skills, and mira knows this, so she figures she can fake it and learn and ask for help from her as they work.
i imagine some of you already know where im going with this
they start working on the tree house on their own and they get three of the walls and the roof up. now its time to put on the last wall
you already know what happens.
they forget to cut a hole in the wall (for either the door or the window, bc thatd be too easy. dont worry though there’s a small window on one of the other walls, its not big enough to fit through)
zoey is, luckily, nearby the backdoor and can hear them shouting for help. unluckily, zoey has seen drake and josh. that was a sitcom scenario with two dumbasses. she cannot fucking believe its actually happening to her two extremely intelligent girlfriends. she has her little megan moment of laughing at them, but eventually she reminds rumi, “babe, you can teleport.”
“yeah but are we sure we want her doing that and potentially giving your grandmother a heart attack should come down just as rumi is doing that?”
“hm, good point. give me a sec.”
zoey ends up cutting them out, although the thought of her with an electric saw does put the fear of god in her girlfriends.
zoey admits she was a little confused when mira offered to help bc she knows mira doesn’t really…do this kind of stuff, but when mira kinda shyly tells her why she did it, zoey almost cries (lots of emotions there; devastation that mira still feels the need to prove herself to a family thats already accepted her, affection over mira being so sweet, joy at the fact that mira knew she could rely on rumis help to get her through it, and a bit of amusement that she fucked it in that specific way)
she shows them the scene from drake and josh afterwards and they look dumbfounded they managed to recreate it so well the entire time
