you are all COWARDS for making “adrien teaches marinette chinese” headcanons, she speaks wenzhouhua at home and just vaguely understands mando because sabine preferred speaking her local dialect with her kids and figured she could learn mando some other time

she did not learn mando but can understand some of it. also she feels insecure about her wenzhouhua at times but. i promise u it’s better than adrien’s mando, which i could not understand for my life and needed subs for

going shopping at the chinese grocery store with her mom and picking out the veggies, knowing what they are but forgetting the names cuz she wasn’t taught to read chinese

SHOES OFF IN THE HOUSE, always wearing fuzzy slippers indoors. her dad forgets this rule sometimes and sabine always starts mopping and grumbling under her breath immediately afterward

i guess it’s a french bakery or whatever but don’t u dare thing sabine didn’t take marinette to chinese bakeries growing up, eating egg custards and hot dog buns and pineapple cakes

sabine hosts family reunions every year. the house is extremely cramped and crowded, there’s at least 70 people in inside because only half the family could make it.

adrien and marinette let the families meet. gabriel reaches for the bill, but it’s nowhere to be found. sabine is cackling in the corner, having finally found someone who doesn’t know the bathroom trick.

she approves of the match once she finds out adrien’s grades and family income because marrying smart and rich will get you places

marinette’s friends think her house is pretty chinese when they walk in with the ink paintings and scrolls. her older cousin’s house on the other hand, has a those plus a shrine plus a buddha statue plus jade turtles and frogs with coins on their heads and in their mouths RESPECTIVELY plus a tape continuously playing buddhist chants.

her mom always tried to give her teachers gifts at the end of the semester and it was embarrassing because NOBODY ELSE DID IT

her friends watched anime but like… she grew up on the old ones like shin chan and doraemon, but the chinese dubs

speaking of which she has tapes of the three monks and tadpoles looking for their mother and nezha conquers the dragon king in her room at the moment

All those family members have very specific names. It’s not just her cousin, it’s her younger male cousin on her father’s side (堂弟 in Mandarin). Talking to her family can be a nightmare when she can hardly remember how this person is related to her, much less their title.

Marinette is totally one of those people who perfers chopsticks and will eat anything with them. And yes spaghetti is a noodle dish I will eat it with chopsticks, fight me.

Sabine has three half empty bottles of Tiger Balm lying around the house.

The spring festival rolls around and oh my fuck what asshole cousin put a string of firecrackers in my bathtub!?

Marinette absolutely does befriend Kagami and has that Asian Friendship ™ experience we all know. It’s refreshing to be able to talk about your trip to see your grandparents without stopping to explain hong bao or titles/names like Nai Nai and Ye Ye. Also who doesn’t like sharing traditional food? Nothing like gossiping over sesame balls. These two are absolute Asian Legends and y'all can fight me.

Sabine is absolutely the kind of asian mom who regularly uses a really fancy tea set. Marinette was not allowed to touch it until she was 10 because she’s such a clutz.

HER FAMILY EATING DINNER HOT POT-STYLE ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS (thats what my family likes to do)

the dupain-chengs are great with french pastries but they’re also amazing with making mooncakes, egg tarts, ningao, Red Bean-Filled Steamed Buns. You Name It. theyve got it all. 

not only did Marinette grow up with the shin chan and doraemon dubs but she sure as hell watched some good ol’ Xi Yang Yang (which is that one piece of children’s entertainment which is as ubiquitous as Spongebob in China)

listen we know marinette is half chinese and kagami is japanese and those are different but at my school all the korean, chinese, etc. kids band together like a squad, so they’d definitely be ultimate besties. but also because they are simply awesome gals. kim is invited too to dine in on the sesame balls

AU WHERE Ladybug’s weapon was actually a classic Chinese yoyo. Imagine how POWERFUL SHE WOULD BE with THIS THING:

short answer: planning definitely makes my life easier with comics! i do messy thumbs on paper where i get issues sorted->digital sketches->finals. taking advantage of the comic format helps me convey mood clearly - stuff like page turns, adding/breaking/removing panel borders, panel size, bubbles…all are unique to this medium! i try to be aware of how i can use those as tools to control the way a reader will move through the comic, and how things are paced. if you utilize them well, it’ll read correctly!

good artist tips

there’s always gonna be someone better than you. try to work less on comparing yourself to their work and instead learning from them and turning envy into a personal challenge for your own stuff. i know its hard, trust me.

the best way to get better at art is to practice. there is no special trick to improving, no secret method. practice makes perfect is a tired old saying that im sure you dont want to hear but unfortunately, its true.

draw as much as you are able to. i wont say draw every day!!! because i know that there are folks that dont have this sort of luxury, whether it be because of physical or mental restrictions, or simply because they dont have time. draw whenever you can and have the strength to. try not to be too upset if you miss a day or a week or even months. shit happens, do the best you are able to.

if you get bored or stuck, try another way. change mediums if you can, flip the canvas, do something weird that you wouldnt normally do. sometimes this is the best way to un-stick yourself from art block.

dont be afraid to ask for help. this is so important! its ok to ask for assistance from other artists you admire (given that they have time to give pointers.) even if asking for help is straight up asking for a redline of your work, its ok to ask for it. improvement doesnt come without outside assistance, more often than not.

references are 100% a legitimate resource. i’m not really sure where the idea came from that real artists dont use references, but its not true. every renaissance painter used references in the form of in-house models. disney artists use references of animals and people to correctly model and then correctly exaggerate their designs. you cant learn to draw the world around you without actually studying it. use references, even if its just google searching.

your art is not an island. you will pick up styles from other people like tape picks up pet hair. its inevitable, and its not something that should be seen as a negative. artists inspire other artists. use your discretion, and study what you like about another artist’s work. every artist’s style is a mashup of a hundred other artists. its ok, experiment.

youre not going to make masterpieces all the time. youre gonna suck more often than not. but youre putting effort into something you enjoy and in the process you are getting better, slowly but surely. you arent going to see your stuff improve overnight, be patient.

please be kind to yourself. you are making a unique form of artistic expression, regardless whether you see it that way or not. youre doing fine, please keep going and pat yourself on the back for getting this far.

do you think allura died in the og season 8?

No.I think the ending of s8 was originally a reprisal of the White Lion Trial.

In that, Allura offered her life, fully expecting that it might be taken from her - but that the thing that needed doing was more important than herself, but instead she was rewarded.

Allura became a cosmic entity - akin to Bob form ‘The Feud’ - and she wasn’t the only one.

In the original s8 Lotor was there with her.

I believe she would have initially intended to sacrifice herself alone, but that Lotor wouldn’t allow her to go alone, and chose to go with her.

Narratively, Lotor needed his White Lion reprisal - where he passed the test - where he valued something more than his own life. And that would be Allura.

So they both go, and they both metaphorically offer their lives as a sacrifice. And as in Oriande, they are both rewarded for it. Gaining new knowledge and abilities. They become the new gods of a restored reality; the new Life Givers.

We’re probably missing a scene or two making things more clear exactly what happened.

It’s a different plane of existence, but they’re not dead.

Bob was a cosmic entity, and he managed to interact with the paladins just fine. Though I could see it taking some time for them to figure out how exactly ‘manifesting’ physically might work.

The shot of the nebula with both Allura and Lotor was definitely from the original season; there would be no reason for Lotor to be there otherwise.

Neither of them dies in the original cut of season eight.
