I love pictures like this.

I think this, in a way, represents the concept of lolita. In a world where beauty and sweetness are so hard to find, lolita can bring it back, regardless of wether it’s in style or unheard of, regardless of wether people are disgusted or enchanted, regardless of wether other people are cruel or kind. They bring back some color into this gray world.

I loved this movie, and my feminist attitude ruins a lot of movies/books/games/etc. for me. This movie isn’t masturbation-fodder, and if you think it is, your mind is certainly in the wrong place. Their attention-grabbing costumes were actually not the main point of the movie; they just accentuated the message. Girls can kick ass. And they don’t have to look like boys in order to get shit done. You can go around looking like Barbie and still be a badass mofo. Being traditionally feminine is not a bad thing.

I especially love the fact that the place the story happened in was completely male-dominated, and they were subjected again and again to the antagonist’s efforts to beat them into submission and teach them they were nothing. Sometimes I feel like real life is just as patriarchal, but in subtler ways. That movie showed me how to endure in the face of that type of opposition. They didn’t give in. Didn’t just accept him as a leader.
