Pinka is Baffled by Reddit Users Part One
In conversation with a Reddit person, they seemed to vehemently insist while talking to me, an autistic person, that autistic kids are somehow incapable of being quiet playing outside. I never once yelled or screamed, it's not hard to explain to a kid it bothers the neighbors.
Saw a Reddit post by somebody who clearly doesn't understand what the Doomsday Clock of all thing is. Some comments insisted it was leftist propaganda. The Doomsday clock is a visual metaphor showing how close humanity is to imploding.
Saw somebody in the comments of a Reddit post comparing a heavily overstocked fish tank to the goddamn Brady Bunch, a literal sitcom, to claim that people are happy living in a small space so the fish are too.
People bragging about or claiming to know people who brag about killing other peoples pets on purpose.
1 in every 4 dog breed identification posts is a pitbull, which let down a rabbit hole of people suggesting to lie to landlords about owning a pitbull, people posting pitbulls on every other dog breeds subreddit, and apparently the fact there are multiple anti-pitbull subreddits. Like I had not realized how adamantly some people refuse to admit they own a pitbull, and also just how adamantly some people hate the breed.
Oh, how I wish the massive chain pet stores would just die out forever... Like, evacuate the animals and then just destroy the building, problem solved. Put something ethical in its place.
Most of these places don't bother to properly inform potential owners of the ACTUAL care requirements of animals. They even sell actively harmful things like tiny cages and fish bowls and 'desk pets'.
Hell, they don't actually train their own damn employees on the needs of the animals they sell, with leads to the spread of false information about small animals.
Hell, I'll just say something that seems to SOMEHOW be an unpopular opinion on places like Reddit:
Fuck the industry side of keeping pets, I do not fucking care about profit margins, I don't care if the price of pets goes up, I don't care if not everyone can afford a pet, I don't care if it gets more expensive to breed and distribute live animals.
Before anything else, the lives and health of these animals comes first. I don't care about ANYTHING ELSE when it comes to this, call me whatever you want, I genuinely do not fucking care.
If you cannot keep the animals in ethical conditions during the breeding shipping or sales process, you shouldn't be allowed to do it. I'd like to see every single country have restrictions on the care and sale of domestic animals.
And then there's the whole breeding for aesthetics instead of health and temperament thing!
We need to stop breeding every single one of these animals right fucking now istg... humans are being cruel for the sake of aesthetics and it needs to stop. Animals are not decorative.
Fish
• Dumbo Betta: They struggle to move and sometimes tear their own fins off.
• Rosetail Betta: They struggle to move and sometimes tear their own fins off.
• Dragonscale Betta: They go blind often, and commonly grow tumors.
• Any Double Tail Betta: The mutation that causes 'two tails' causes lots of fin issues.
• Crowntail Betta: The jagged shape makes them prone to finrot and makes cases of it harder to notice.
• Dumbo Guppy: Fins so long they can hardly move.
• Balloon Molly: The trademark balloon shape is bad for the fish's internal organs.
• King Balloon Molly: The trademark balloon shape is bad for the fish's internal organs, fin length makes it hard to move.
• Telescope/Celestial Eye/Moor: Eyes that bulge out of the head and sometimes the ability to only ever look in one direction.
• Oranda Goldfish: If you have to trim the fish's flesh to keep it from going blind, it's unethical to breed.
• Ryukin/Pearlscale Goldfish: Body shape makes it very hard to move.
• Ranchu/Lionhead Goldfish: Combination of wen that needs trimming, no dorsal fin, and body that's hard to swim with.
• Dwarf Gourami: Most are heavily inbred.
• Any 'shortbody morph' of any species of fish: Incredibly unhealthy.
Cats
• Scottish Fold Cat: They have a dwarfism genetic defect that can lead to a lot of health issues.
• Munchkin Cat: Bred for a cartilage defect that can cause bone and joint problems such as arthritis.
• Short Nose Persian/Himalayan/Bermese: Short compact face can cause serious respiratory issues.
• Sphinx: Prone to skin issues such as dryness, sunburn, and frostbite.
• Manx/Bobtail: A cats tail is an important part of their spine, cats should not be bred to be missing part of it.
Dogs
• Pug/French Bulldog/Bulldog: The shape of these breeds skills makes it incredibly difficult for the dog to breathe properly.
• XL Bully: Breathing difficulty, bone and joint issues, bred for musculature and aggressive temperament.
• Any backyard bred Pit Mix: Bred in the hundreds with no actual knowledge of breed health, leading to shelters clogged with backyard bred pit mixes.
• Doodle: High probability of hip and elbow issues, sometimes unstable temperaments, unethical backyard breeding practices are common.
• Boxer: Very prone to cancer.
• Cocker Spaniel: Incredibly prone to health issues and disease.
Y'know what some of these pet owners should support these breeds get instead of an animal? A plant. Hell, just get a robo pet. If the point to you is purely the aesthetics of an animal you should never own one, they ain't fuckin decorative. These are living animals and we shouldn't be mutilating their genetics like this!
And I've been called a "gatekeeper" for saying certain people should not own pets, but my mind isn't changing: every pet deserves a loving owner, not ever human should get a pet.
Do not adopt an animal if:
• You cannot afford adoption fees, food, medical care, and a proper enclosure.
• You do not have the space the animal requires, like not enough space for a large enough cage or tank, or keeping a dog in a single room dorm.
• You do not plan to vaccinate the animal, vaccines are not optional, if your god does not have the rabies vaccine and bites somebody animal control may have to kill and behead the dog to check for rabies.
• You are not able to care for it for its entire lifespan, or do not have somebody to take it if they outlive you. Rabbits live 15 years, fancy goldfish live 15 years, long body goldfish live up to 30+ years, koi live up to 40+ years, african grey parrots live up to 50 years, and many tortoises live 80+ years.
• You plan to become a backyard breeder.
• You live with somebody or another pet that may pose a serious threat to the life of the animal.
• You plan to get a cat or dog and let it roam free outside to kill the local birds and rodents for any reason other than you owning a farm.
• You plan to keep a dog outside 24/7 on a chain, as that is abuse.
• You do not have enough time in your schedule to care for whatever animal you plan to adopt, as many animals need lots of enrichment.
• You do not plan to research the specific needs of the specific animal you plan to adopt. Going from zero is a very bad idea.
• You plan to treat the animal purely as a decorative element instead of a living being that needs a proper environment and diet to thrive.
Don't even get my started with the ethical problems of wild caught animals. I personally fully believe that if humans have not figured out how to keep a species of animal alive from birth to natural old age death, then humans should not be keeping the animal in captivity at all in the first place.
This goes for inverts, fish, reptiles, birds, amphibians, mammals, and literally every type of animal under the sun.
I actually think that taking animals from the wild for any reason other than a genuine ethical attempt to breed animals in captivity or preserve the species should be completely banned.
Oh, how I wish the massive chain pet stores would just die out forever... Like, evacuate the animals and then just destroy the building, problem solved. Put something ethical in its place.
