They are girlfriends
I don't see the "toxic relationship" side or "they were both wrong" angle at all in Jibaro. The Siren represented both a woman violated and r*ped AND the colonized while the knight represents both the rapist and the conqueror. I just don't see where the Siren was at all equally bad or toxic as some people are trying to claim. And hey, maybe that was what was intended, but if it was, they didn't portray that particular angle well🤷🏾♀️ 10000/10 episode though
I recently read an interview from the writer-director Alberto Mielgo, and apparently he stands by the statement that the siren and the knight were both wrong. Which is shocking to me. Though it could be a reference to general themes he explores in his work and not the main theme of the short film? I’m not sure.
It seems so apparent and obvious that the narrative is NOT about a toxic relationship, but about greed, rape, and abuse relating to both humans and the land.
The visual language they use just SCREAMS a semi literal, semi metaphorical telling of greed and abuse leading to the downfall of the perpetrator and their victim.
I stand by the belief that the siren did nothing wrong. In the beginning she was protecting her lake, in the end she killed an evil man. If she represents the land, she is no seducer. The land just is. It is beautiful and enticing and violent and dangerous, by no fault of its own.
Trying to explain away these things just wreaks of the same selfish arrogance of the knight himself.
I'm glad to see people share this thought too. She's not evil shes just protecting the land and herself. I don't see how she can be compared to the colonizer rapist.
I also hear people say that he did what he did to avenge this fallen brethren, but its obvious he didn't care that much for them and wanted the gold all to himself. It shows in the beginning when he finds the woman's gold scale and hides it away so the others wouldn't know.
When he sees her up close the first thing he does is look down at her body. Her body ( more accurately the gold and gems on her body) was all he cared about
How do you expect me to believe that protecting yourself and land from men like this is supposed to be equally toxic 🤨. Sure he had a cut lip but look at what he did to her
She did nothing wrong

Bill trying to summon spirits would have been funny to see. Do you think he asked Jane for help or if she wanted to help, but he didn't let her.

More about them
Eltingville ocs
Thinking about geek girl and Bill. He didn't gawk at her or take pictures he was mostly confused about a girl being interested in the same stuff he liked.
After his parents divorce he probably saw Joe as a father figure of sorts. Joe was much older, loved comics and owned a comic book shop.
Bill's rant in the epilouge reminded me of what Joe told him about women in fandoms. Bill was always a bit sexist but I believe Joe made it worse.
Now he's a angry incel complaining about "woke" and never growing up. Its sad but a realistic end.
Fail male sketch dump.
This beef would be hilarious
Put them in a room together and bill's crying first
