the idea of spamton just being naturally short fits better narratively than him being dunked in acid, it’s the embodiment of people looking down on him and treating him as a second option. he wants to make it big to prove he’s just as capable as the other addisons. i don’t think he was dunked in acid.

like i understand where people would get it from with “I USED TO BE NOTHING BUT THE E_MAIL GUY, NOW I'M THE [[It Burns! Ow! Stop! Help Me! It Burns!]] GUY!”

but like. in the japanese localization, that line is specifically translated as "it's too bright, my eyes hurt!". he is 100% not talking about acid there, and the reason i think i dislike that interpretation so much is that the actual meaning of it is SO MUCH MORE FUCKED UP?? this is referenced again where he says that kris's soul is "burning his eyes". like. it's talking about light. his eyes were burned by light. and that acid pit idea is just completely out of place in spamton's backstory... it doesn't have ANYTHING to do with why he's so obsessed with heaven, or light, or the angel. like i suppose both could've happened but aagh it just feels really out of character imo, like it's just needlessly cruel and feels really out of place with the rest of deltarune. i dunno. i guess "they put some guy in the acid and now he's tiny" is just not as compelling to me as "guy sees the heavens and is blinded by divinity", and where his short stature is more symbolic for his inferiority at selling and “making it big” than anything.
