This was the deal, the perfect alibi, because the more they gave into the public performance (the whole bromance thing), the safer the truth became. They were now hiding in plain sight, basically. If Carlos acted awkward or flustered, that could raise actual questions. But if he just played along, if he gave the world the charming, exaggerated version of their partnership, then it became a joke. The illusion was a beautiful, profitable thing. And Charles was starting to slowly convince himself that it was enough, that maybe the world loved them like this, that they would love them like this for real, that nothing could ever threaten them.
