  It’s actually baffling how little snow we’ve gotten. I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.

We usually get snow every year, or at least I think because we got it last year. Is it like global warming or something, is that what's supposed to happen?

I bought a big coat and everything, really came prepared.

Break Time? | Flo & Eytan

  "It is your fault, isn’t it?” Eytan teased and nudged her lightly with his elbow, following her gaze. “I think we’ll be fine. There are plenty of people here.” He pointed out, starting to leave their little station. “Pancakes sound amazing right now.” He let out a happy sigh just at the thought of getting to eat something after several hours of just working with children and glitter. When she started speaking again, he turned his head over to her to listen, but then scowled as he heard what she was actually saying. “You’re a horrible person.” He teased playfully, taking in a deep breath of the sweet smell of all the food.

"Hey!" Florence bit back at him with a tilt of her head, "I'm just trying to put it to use! No point in having it if you're never gonna use it, Eytan." Flo waved at one of the students working, beckoning them so that the pair could get a table faster. The dining area wasn't nearly as noisy as the children they faced earlier, but there was still the sound of utensils and conversations above everything. "Dunno why you don't like to use it anyway. Most teens would totally die without their phones." she shrugged, tapping her fingers over the plastic of the menu. "You set yourself up for that one!" She smiled wide, her big eyes thinned and peeked from over the menu, "Shhhh. I've already had one week this month feeling like a horrible person. Let me have this victory in peace." The redhead sighed to herself as she looked at the options, a small chuckle escaping from under her breath at how each order had a Christmas title. "This is it, this is one." she pointed down onto the paper just as a young girl came to their table. "Can I have one of the three stacks? The ones that look like Rudolph!"

Break Time? | Flo & Eytan

  Eytan sighed as he spoke to a little boy, about the age of four. “You have to put the glue on the ornament before the glitter, or else the glitter’ll all just fall off! And we don’t want that, do we?” He asked in a voice that he used when speaking to all little kids, but inside he was ready to give up. Why did kids not understand that glitter was not sticky? He looked up when Florence was closer, blinking at her question before just sighing in frustration. “Is that really what it says? My phone hates me.” He stood up from the little bench and smiled down at the little boy. “Have fun finishing okay?” He told him, and turned back towards Florence. “I need food. Like… immediately. So that’d be great.”

There was a series of giggles as Flo nodded her head at the boy, it only made things funnier that she was dressed from head to toe in an elf costume with pointed ears and all. "It's my fault, I really ought to stop giving you reasons to use the phone anyway." She looked around their post to make sure everyone else was still working, assuring they wouldn't be missed much. It was so noisy around the fair, shrieking children and frustrated parents, and so much color that even she felt overwhelmed. It was Christmas time though, and it would take something really heavy to get her out of the spirit. "Pancakes? I'm pretty sure they're doing a breakfast thing with the elves, I think I'll fit in pretty well." she smiled. She barely looked at him, mostly focused on the different activities, waving at people she recognized as they walked by. While approaching the area filled with tables, the smell of maple syrup and sugar cookies taking over the air, she looked up at him. "I'm really bread for this bear." she held a serious face before letting a smile creep over it, nudging him playfully in the side with her elbow.

Break Time? | Flo & Eytan

[A few of the children seemed confused by the giggling coming from Florence as she checked her cell phone, something she shouldn't have been doing while making ornaments anyway. She looked down at them and shrugged her shoulders.] It's an elf thing. [She thought she liked kids up until tonight, but not even she was peppy enough for the amount of brat that was radiating off of the crowd. Looking around she took note of the different direction choices they had if they were going to leave all inconspicuous. She walked slowly to the table he was at and bent over.] A break would be lonely? Is that a no? [She pouted playfully before nudging her head, hands intertwined behind her back; she made a proposal.] We can visit all of the other booths if you want. It's going to be pretty hard to escape Christmas in general, so pick your poison.

Christmas Eve | Self Para

Christmas at the Brewster’s house throughout the years always involved a lot of color. Their houses were usually colorful to begin with, but Christmas consisted of the kind of bond and cheer that didn’t need decorations, but they always had some. When she was younger Flo and her father would make holiday cookies and leave them out for Santa Claus. She’d fall asleep on the couch waiting up for him, only to wake up to gifts that weren’t there the night before.

More recent years have differed, a lack of color circling the new home, and a lack of voices. Her parents were never home, her mother traveled too much to meet her clients and her father toured often. Flo began to know more about her childhood nanny’s life than she did her folks, but it was always cozier than the possibility they might throw her on her grandmother again. This Christmas was supposed to be spent in London with the kooky old woman, but with delayed purchase of tickets Flo got the phone call that it might not be happening. “Might not” nowadays was a definite no.

“Dad, I’ve bought a new type of cookie dough at one of the shops on the boulevard and the picture looks so good I can almost taste it.”

“That’s wonderful honey, I’m so excited truly. I hope I can make it in time, we’re having some problems on set.”

She decorated by her lonesome this year, a few things around the house. She should have been thankful, really, considering they came early in the month to decorate the tree, though it wasn’t for long. Thankful, isn’t that what these holidays were about? But it was hard to show thankfulness to a person that wasn’t around to receive it. Nine o’clock on Christmas Eve and she wishes she would stop being surprised about frustrating phone calls. “We’ll be there by morning, pumpkin.”

Her hands shook a little as she grabbed the plate and tried to walk it to the coffee table. When it slipped from her grip the sound of shattering glass sounded an awful lot like jingling bells. In a panic she kneeled and tried to pick up the shards, but only flinched at the small cuts on her fingers. Flo washed her hands until the skin of her fingertips wrinkled like old age, trying to scrub off germs that weren’t there. She suddenly felt very sick and contemplated calling someone, holding the phone while lying out on the red couch before the tree. She only asked for one thing this year, drifting to sleep, sixteen and still waiting up.

Well, thanks. But you deserve to be the queen of Christmas right now.

You think so? I'm trying my best to avoid coal this year since I've done some unkind things. I also take any opportunity to wear a costume that I can.

Queen of Christmas, has a nice ring to it. Do you think the children might bow and call me queen too?

Y-yeah, Baze is a weird name. I don’t know why my parents chose it. I’m at the Breakfast with the Elves station, with all the pancakes. What about you?

Have you ever asked them? I think if I were you it'd be something I'd ask them, I know why my name is Florence. Baze just sounds like it has an interesting story. Oh how great! That sounds so yummy, try not to pick at the food. I'm pretty sure I'm on ornaments duty but I may have forgotten.

  Oh, yeah! Coal is a no no, right? You’ll be fine. I mean, what’s done is done and you just have to move on and try to make up for it.

Uh, yeah, it can completely ruin Christmas. 

You're right, and that was really inspirational. I'm feeling better about it, and I'm trying to be in the holiday spirit, with secret santa and all. The past is the the past.

Uh...yeah kinda, well not wrong but just kind of...wrong. Yeah that was not right, morally, I think, which makes it wrong. I actually don't know what we're talking about, but it was weird.

That and still being able to do kid things without the weird looks. Or...most of the weird looks, I feel like no matter what age there are some things that are always weird. 

Pretty sure they're the same thing around this time of year. If you're lucky, they won't hang any ornaments on you. That could get ugly.
