Like Fairyland? But want something easier on the wallet? Here are some suggestions! (MSD 1/4 Focus)
Let’s face it. Fairyland is an expensive company - beautiful dolls, with expressive bodies and quite a lot of creativity with them, and as such they’re rightfully quite popular. However, the dolls can easily do quite a bit of damage to someone’s pockets. When I joined the hobby, as much as I hate to admit it, it took me awhile to find out about the following companies - I thought the scale, price wise, was pretty much either Resinsoul, and then Fairyland, and then Soom or something. So! I thought I’d share some of the companies I found out here, with some pictures of sculpts, with pricetags that don’t hit the wallet quite as hard and where to get them! Of course, this is just my opinion - so take it as you may! :) So, without further ado, in no specific order: 1) Little Monica Little Monica is a Chinese-based company that offers some dolls quite an aesthetic that I find fairly similiar to Fairyland; they’re a bit more …proportionate, perhaps, but they have the sweet, doe-eyed look that I think can easily appeal to any Fairyland fan. Here is an example of their lovely girl Elena!
And here is one of their boys, Bear:
You can order Bear or Elena here on their website: http://www.littlemonica.com/index.php Or you can use a trusted dealer such as Alice Collections (http://www.acbjd.com/little-monica-c-480.html) or Denver Doll Emporium! (http://www.denverdoll.com/littlemonicamain.php) Little Monica’s MSD line starts at $270 + shipping, and a faceup will cost you an additional $53. Their dolls are available in normal skin and white, and right now (as of 8/02/2017) they’re also doing an event for tan skin! 2) DikaDoll DikaDoll, like Little Monica, is another Chinese-based company. They offer a wide variety of skintones, such as a normal yellow, normal pink, white and, for an additional fee, tan or grey! They also have jointed hands for ¼ scale dolls that can be ordered separately, as well! Here is one of their sculpts, Yolanda (elf version):
And here is another elf sculpt they offer, Rena:
(Sorry - I have an elf fixation! Of course, most of their sculpts are human) DikaDoll starts at $210 (on their old body, an additional $20 for their new one) + shipping, their special resin colors are an additional $50, and their faceups are $60. Their jointed ¼ scale hands are also $79! DikaDoll is also a company offered at Alice Collection’s! Their official website can be found here: http://www.dkdoll.com/abouten.asp 3) Myou Doll So far there has been a trend of Chinese companies - and Myou doll is no exception! Their dolls are available in Normal, Normal Pink, White, Normal Yellow, Coffee, and, for an additional small fee, Tanned! They have many different options for bodies too, which can be quite nice! Here is one of their girls, Ailsa:
And here is one of their boys, Arthur:
And for a fun extra bonus - here is BoHe! (since, of Myou’s dolls, I feel like I see her less and I think she is really pretty!)
Myou’s dolls start at $227 + shipping, their tanned skin tone (which is a bit darker than coffee) is an additional $25, and faceups cost $33. They’re sold on Alice Collections and in-stock dolls are also available at JunkySpot (http://www.junkyspot.com/)! Myou’s official website is here: http://myou-doll.com/ 4) Mystic Kids Here is Nicole:
And here is Francis!
Mystic Kids dolls start at $199 + shipping and faceups cost $25. Mystic Kids official website is here: http://www.mystic-kids.com/ And they’re also available on JunkySpot and AliceCollections! 5) Kid’s Sky Here is White Crystal:
And here is Turquoise:
Kid’s Sky starts at $260 (though there is an event going on where they are $234) + shipping, and faceups are an additional $25. Kid’s Sky’s official website was ks-doll.com but it appears they’re having some domain problems, from what I can tell from their website (or, rather, lack thereof). There are available, however, on Alice Collection’s! 6) 5StarDoll Here is 5Stardoll! Another Chinese company, 5stardoll offers their dolls primarily in two different colors: white and normal. They used to offer color-matching services and many more skintones, but I don’t know if they still too; I’ve contacted them since, if they will still do it, I’m hoping to get a tan Alyssa from them. Without further ado, here are some of their sculpts: Elaine:
Mu-Ran:
5Stardoll’s dolls start at $195 + shipping, and faceups are an additional $30! Here is their official website: https://5stardoll.com/en/ And their only official dealer is Denver Doll Emporium! http://www.denverdoll.com/ 7) Magic Time Like all of the above companies, Magic Time is also a legitimate Chinese BJD company. Magic Time offers their dolls in four different colors: cream white, normal pink, normal yellow, and brown. I’m not sure if their brown skin costs more, but it appears all of their dolls out of their dealer Milky Queen Doll Castle come with faceups by default. Magic Time dolls come with exchangeable human and elf ears, as well! Here is one of their sculpts, Mana:
And here is one of their boys, Rain:
It also seems worth mentioning that Magic Time also has pretty female bodies that look very similiar to minifee’s!
Like Fairyland’s bodies, they also have magnets, but their magnets are visible while Fairyland’s are not. While their bodies are similiar, Magic Time is a legitimate company and their dolls are not recasts; they’re on-topic on Den of Angels. Magic Time’s doll’s are listed as being $255 + shipping normally on ebay, but it appears there is a sale going on right now ($178.50 + shipping), but I don’t recall normally seeing their dolls for over $230 so I’m not sure if they’re perpetually on sale or what. It appears that Magic Time functions primarily through their dealers, the most notable one being Milky Queen Doll Castle, whose ebay you can find here: http://stores.ebay.com/Milky-Queen-Doll-Castel/Magic-Time-Doll-/ Annnd that’s it! :D This list had an emphasis on msd-sized dolls, but all of these companies also offer dolls in other sizes. I also had a USA-centric focus for the dealers, but if you check out the Den of Angels wiki (which you can view here, and you don’t need a DoA account to view it, although I would suggest making one: https://denofangels.com/doawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) Here you can see legitimate dealers in other countries, some of which might be in Japan, France, England, and so on!
