Re: indie games have you ever tried oneshot? I played it last year and it left a huge impression on me
Oh yeah!! I played it at some point once it got on steam. I kinda wish i had tried it when it was really "one shot" before they let you save, but I do appreciate the quality of life that it brought.
Great game! I've seen the dev at cons a few times. I loved the dynamic between niko and the player. The world was very cool too.
I'm curious how the console versions work later on
Okay gang as soon as I finish Jak 3 I'm going to play some of the games y'all recommended.

TUESDAY AGAIN NO PROBLEM
Speaking of indie games, I have one I finally got around to and finished which was really cool: Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo. It's in the style of Paper Mario but takes it it's own way, and isn't an RPG. I really loved the characters and writing in it and think it's very much worth playing.
The other game was a demo I just learned about and in the same vein as Paw Paw Destiny but much different, I played a demo of a game called Sketchy Fables. Incredibly cool art, bizarre and dreamlike, makes me think "Paw Paw Destiny mixed with Funi Raccoon Game but chill"
Here's a small smattering of screencaps from the game. It's much more bizarre in motion. I also am just posting the last picture as proof of completion (the true ending according to the dev).
I have so much to say about the game but also it really defies any explanation I could possibly give
I'm so curious if there's a way to be good at the game. I ended with -1000 virtue and I couldn't find a consistent way to not go negative on it. I was up to like 700 at one point and then you can really just lose it all pretty quick in some of those levels
I really just would be so interested to talk to the daiyu and just get some more context and have a conversation about it.
Please, guys, please, i found this game on the eshop a few months ago and no one is talking about it and I'm obsessed with its existence.
Its like this poorly constructed game developed by a solo dev who is this 40-something Japanese guy, who's really into astrology, fortune telling and drawing cats and dogs. And everything about the game is oddly pretentious.
This is his webpage for it.
I say all of that because learning every detail about this man made the game make more sense??? but also.... fascinating.
The game itself, is borderline incomprehensible, gameplay wise and on top of that the translation is spotty at best. And on top of everything the game runs like its being held together with paper clips.
But I'm mesmerized with the creative intention of every facet... its not a weird cashgrab. This is an earnest game this guy spent 6 years making by himself. I have so many questions, i want to just sit with him and let him talk about it.
I found his blog where he talks about traveling the world and a very specific type of fortune telling he made a webpage for. He made a politically-charged manga about a dog traveling Japan that there's no English translation for.
Poking around his blog, I simply wish I knew more cultural context to fully grasp what he's talking about since a lot of his stuff seems very Japan specific.
But all in all, his game feels like playing a Neil Breen film. I'm simply fascinated by this guys art of cute cats, dogs, astrology and having strong feelings about morality and his home country that dictate his works also he is currently creating a cozy island design game???
And with that, thats as much as my engish-speaking net and google translate can give me for my deep dive.
If there is one thing I know for sure, the dude really knows how to draw a cute dog.
So I never ever say this phrase because I know that there's some many people in the world who do and play things, but legit, has anyone else beat Paw Paw Destiny?
I just finished it last night and it was grueling and I can't find like any conversation about it anywhere and I truly don't know what to do with this knowledge I've gained about this wild game.
My wife wrote a really in depth post when I played through half of it earlier and I just am so curious on what anyone else thinks if they put in the time
OKAY SORRY I WENT MIA AFTER ASKING ABOUT GAMES. I WILL GET BACK TO IT I JUST HAD SOME THINGS COME UP. I have to make another post though hold on
Perhaps I spent the last two days either out at a thrift store or playing RE:Requiem because I wanted to finish it before saros officially released tomorrow
I did finish it
It was awesome
Can't wait for Saros and also to be normal again and do regular people things
Oh there's a game I played that I really have no way to describe the feeling of playing. Last year I played a good chunk of a game called Paw Paw Destiny. it looked bizarre and fun and it was in a weird way for a while except the game is also broken beyond repair as far I can tell.
It's a solo dev game and there's clearly a lot of care and thought put into it, but the message and the writing paired with the aesthetic and gameplay is so out there that it's truly incomprehensible.
I would definitely recommend looking at it and then never getting it, especially not if it's over like 5 dollars (and that might even be a stretch) It's really an experience though. I got so frustrated by when I stopped that even though I really want to put it on my "Games finished" list, every time I think about trying to play it again I just sigh
It's time to start my silly little video game reviewing tumblr back up today. I think I'm just going to try and rapid fire some of the games I've beat since november of 2024 and work my way forward.
I'm bummed I didn't end up writing notes about the original Silent Hill 2 vs the remake, because there were some really interesting choices in the changes they did, like Mr. James Sunderland knowing their special spot immediately vs not knowing for a while. BUT OH WELL
First one will probably be Backpack Hero and I think I'll just start reblogging them here for fun when I do them
Kind of bigger, but Cross Code is great.
Oh shit I think I put this one on my list but it gets buried pretty quick. Looking at the trailer again this looks rad as hell and like the exact type of game I might be feeling like soon. Very cool pixel work
one of my fav indies is the planet crafter :) idk if it's obscure but none of my friends had heard of it before i played it haha. you're dropped on an uninhabitable planet and tasked with terraforming it. you transform the atmosphere, build bases, explore ruins etc and uncover the lore as you go. it's pretty chill, and when you reach terraforming milestones (like liquid water, plants etc) it's so gratifying :)
Oh this looks really cool! Feels like I could sink a lot of time into this which is so dangerous
There's a demo too so I'll definitely check that out.
Dude, I love hearing about indie games
for indie games: Cattails, a lil game where you play as a cat and join a clan, similar to warrior cats! very fun :3c andddd atomicrops! roguelike shootery game where you have to grow crops by day and defend em by night, if you can do Not get the switch version literally any other version is better bc the switch version is SO OUTDATED 😭 <== Primarily a switch gamer. hdhsshdh
I've seen a few people play atomicrops, i found out about it from youtube, but I'VE NEVERRRRRRR SEEN ANYONE MENTION CATTAILS??????
I ACTUALLY HAVE CAT TAILS. It's so charming. I feel like there might be multiple versions or something or like a much updated version now? I got it a long time ago and never finished it. I'm going to have to play it for real now.
Atomicrops I've also heard good things about from a friend of mine! Good to know about the switch version though because I usually do that too. I do have a steam deck though so I can pick it up on that for the updates.
Awesome choices, I love hearing love for cattails
