My favorite thing about writing FR lore is there is Zero Obligation for it to be Any Good At All. Like, I can’t publish this crap. Can’t turn a profit off it. Nobody’s gonna see it. I can do Whatever I Want. I can stuff my den with the edgiest Mary Sue dragons, their backstories are nothing but a shameful collection of self-indulgent clichés with a shiny coat of paint, taking however many liberties with the source material I want. It’s so fun. I can just say my lair is on a Ley Line and nobody can tell me no. I can just say there’s a shade-worshiping emperor death cult in the Hewn City. I can take this Gaoler I bought last week and say “hey actually this is the most dangerous lich necromancer in Sornieth” and Nobody Can Stop Me. Don’t have to worry about continuity or story beats or believability, don’t have to worry about timelines or worldbuilding details. Literally all I gotta worry about is what makes me happy. This game rules.
