Pride Forever
every day i think about aerion wearing a mail shirt with nothing underneath it to fucking dinner. what the fuck is wrong with him
If you remember being a teenager you're a creep because you straight up saw yourself naked back then. The only way to be righteous is to obliterate your mind with drugs until you can't remember anything
unfortunately i am a sucker for the “characters with white hair symbolizing their connection to magic, prophecy, and perhaps betrayal” trope. i love me a white-haired bitch who is either doomed or dooms everyone around them. gimme ten thousand more of these little ice-blonde freaks
people trying to convince me booktok books are bad because they have dubcon smut in them rather than the real reasons they’re bad, like awful metaphors and references to tiktok memes
genuinely hotd “fandom” (and antifandom) on this hellsite is so incomparably annoying.
hope that googly-eyed little bleach-blonde tboy fake daeron gets to go home safely to his mother but i sincerely doubt it
feeling my friends pulling away from me and feeling myself pulling away from them in turn. i want to curl up in a ball and imagine how they’d grieve me if i died
Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that
Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do
Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control
Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child
Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.
sewing affirmations
it’s okay that i don’t have a sewing machine
i love backstitching by hand for hours
this has got to be great for my back
millions of my ancestors did this and they lived almost as long as i want to
i’m making so many beautiful things for my house—oh goddamn it
A Love for Ignorance
Knights with body modifications, please.
Knight with a house crest carved into their backs. An order where all members have their tongues pierced with a jewel that burns should they lie. Body modifications that are not even possible outside of fantasy.
it really is annoying as hell how someone will talk about how poor people can't avoid ethically dubious products because of how being poor works and then someone with a two story house in the suburbs will take that to mean they can order harry potter books through a drone delivery from amazon and if you criticize that you're a bigot
the near universal absence of hose in late medieval inspired visual media is so evil not for historical accuracy reasons or anything but bc I think they're hot & I'm offended by the implication that they're too weird or unattractive to include. fake men's legs enjoyers everywhere. I bet they wouldn't even appreciate the eroticism of a little flash of braies where the thigh meets the body if they got it. sad!
Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm.
a lot of the complaints about hotd are just kinda wet blanket to me because like cmon it’s an adaptation they’re gonna change stuff and cut characters and condense storylines and whatever whatever whatever, let’s just have a good time and enjoy the drama and the dragons,
HOWEVER. that assault scene with alicent was. pretty weird. i’m not the kinda guy who’s going to yell about how rape should never be in a tv show ever, but it was just so fucking abrupt and bizarre and i can’t say with certainty it was out of character because who even was that fucking guy??? absolute random of a character making an absurd decision that goes almost nowhere. brother loses his head the same episode. i could try to stretch that it’s furthering the “she didn’t think the leopards would eat her face” thing with alicent backing Team Misogyny, but then we’re left with the only intention of the scene being victim blaming? alicent torture? maybe giving the maester a Save the Cat point???
the betrayal of women is a huge, deep-rooted theme not just in this show, but in the whole project of asoiaf overall. most of the time, i’d say hotd does a passably good job with that theme, and most of the major changes seem to be more or less in service of it. sometimes, however, i feel it teeters on the line between patriarchy as Original Sin that stains humanity for thousands of years after the fact and women being poor perpetual abuse sponges and trauma dolls and aren’t men just such brutish unfeeling monsters that women are doomed to suffer under for ever and ever. like give me a break man
and i was lamenting to my spouse about this when i watched the episode, but this kind of extreme un-personing of even noble and royal women is NOT historically informed, the way the random soldiers doubted and resisted obeying alicent and helaena’s orders regarding city defense. i’m not mad about westerosi misogyny being more like victorian revisionism misogyny than actual medieval misogyny cause again, modern misogyny is more rooted in victorian ideas than medieval ones, asoiaf is written for a modern audience, specifically to convey themes about the dire consequences of violence against women, but like. queen is a military position. women in medieval europe of the noble class (the WARRIOR class) were respected as decision-makers on military matters. they might not have been putting on armor and physically fighting typically (though it’s not actually unheard of) but they were fully expected to be capable of strategy, logistics, managing an army or defensive force’s supplies, holding a castle or fortress through a siege, and leading soldiers. they were educated in politics and warfare and management and leadership and finance. queens and princesses didn’t just sit around looking pretty all day. it’s a fucking job that requires skills and commands respect. some random crossbowman guarding a wall was not in any fucking position to question a queen’s commands for a single goddamn second.
it’s just kinda a shame to me (medieval nerd) that medieval fantasy always goes the route of victorian “women are delicate flowers who can only sip tea and do crafts when they’re not being mommies” flavor of misogyny instead of anything more. y’know. medieval.
haven by emma donoghue. i’m almost blind with rage
