Three years ago today, I was enjoying Uganda, learning about a new culture and country, and taking pictures with goats and wildlife to share with my mom and family.

Two years ago, I was raped. My mom was gone and I didn’t have much of a family left standing behind me.

One year ago, I was suicidal, starving, sleeping 16 hours a day, and doing my best to be less than sober for the rest of it. But this little dog that would only eat tortilla chips wandered into my front yard and gave me the smallest shred of hope. It got a little worse for awhile - because sometimes hope feels like a threat - but then, slowly, things started to change. It isn’t that Tilly saved me, because that was all me, but she was a catalyst that reminded me there was a future and I could be a part of it.
