“I don’t think so Nepgya.” Game set and match. The lie has fallen apart out of her control, who knew the local CPU was so easily manipulated? She is going to have to keep that secret to herself but it will be fun to use in the future.

“After all, there are no other Nepgyas in the city database, and if your such a noob why would you know about levels or classes?”

Giving a wide grin Viola leaned back against a wall as she stared into the girls eyes. “I think your just the right person Nepgya, or should I say Neptune?”

     She opened her mouth to explain that every good protagonist would know about things like that, closing it after realising that something like that would only blow her cover as the noobish NPC she had to pretend to be to get out of work. Unfortunately, it seems she had been figured out anyway. Well, she guessed it was kind of fun while it had lasted, but she should probably level up her charisma a bit more before trying something like this again.

“Aw, what? You knew? Come on, don’t mess with a girl like that!”

Well that wasn’t the kind of response she expecting. Although, she had to be fair, this was definitely a new type of character, so at least the writers weren’t running out of ideas just yet. Still, though, it was so surreal to have someone tell her that she wasn’t in a game. It felt wrong. Something was definitely off here.

     “Wow, um, rude. Have a little respect for the protagonist’s little quirks, okay? You’re supposed to say stuff like ‘don’t be so meta’ not deny the fact that we’re all just fictional characters being written by some lonely people on the internet with no friends. See, when you get me to point out stuff like that, it just gets depressing, and fans don’t wanna be depressed, they wanna have fun.” An over dramatic sigh was was let out before she continued, cocking a single eyebrow as she crossed her arms in an exaggerated show of confusion. 

“Of course I’m not from Lowee, though. Oh! And you’re saying it wrong. Come on, say it with me, it’s Lowee. You know, like the brother of that one plumber whose name we can’t say because we don’t wanna get sued for copyright infringement? Man, are you lucky Blanc’s not here, she would be pissed. I’m from Planeptune, silly. I’m a pretty big deal over there. I mean, I’m a pretty big deal everywhere, buuut yeah.” Unless she’d wound up in yet another dimension. Man, how did she keep doing that, anyway? Although she guessed she really shouldn’t be surprised about it at this point. “Dimension” was in the name of the series, after all.

Oh this was rich, maybe she should send a letter out to Histoire letting her know just how much Neptune thought of her. Giving the goddess a smirk the guild member crosses her arms as she looks over at the girl.

“Really? I heard of you Nepgya. They say that you are an amazing fighter and that your mother raised you on her own and even though she can be harsh that she cares. In fact I heard that You have a sister that needs a confidence boost.”

handing Neptune a quest requesting the death of an Ancient dragon the girl smiles innocently as she stares straight into neptunes eyes.

“I heard that you like to fight high level monsters to help the citizens of planeptune.”

     She waved her hand in dismissal as she was handed the quest, not really paying attention to what the girl was saying. Neptune was always impatient to get home and continue her carefree lifestyle, but today in particular she was in more of a hurry than normal, as Nepgear had beaten one of her high scores and the Goddess was just itching to get back there and claim the top score once again. However, once she read through the request, she was quick to break out in another exclamation.

“Say whaaaaaaat?” And just like that, her plan- her perfect plan- fell apart right before her eyes. Oh, cruel fate! This wasn’t something that supposed to happen to the main character! Things like this should be saved for comic relief when Arfoire tried to do something dastardly.

“No way, you gotta be thinking about some other girl. Nept- ehh- gya- is a pretty common name around here, y’know? Come on, do I look like a level 90 soldier class character to you?”

“Y-you really wanna know more about me, alright then” she said quietly once again. “If you must know I am quite the sports gal and I get out quire often to stretch my legs, but as for the pudding it’d have to be cherry flavoured if I have go be honest, and speaking of pudding would you like some right now?”

     “Ohhhh a sports girl, huh? What kinda sports are we talking here, huh? You don’t seem like one of those idol characters so it’s gotta be something intense like extreme soccer. Oh! Oh! Or SKYDIVING! I could probably teach you a few tricks for that one. I consider myself an expert when it comes from falling from the sky.” She mused over that for a moment of two, nodding to herself until she fully registered the girl’s offer.

“Pudding, for me? Are you for real? Oh man, I really hope you’re a permanent party member and not just some NPC that joins for one quest and is never heard from again.”

     “Pfffff- Only Friend? AHAHA that’s even worse than Noire! At least she’s got Uni. Little sisters don’t really count, but at least they’re better than an axe! If you’re gonna name your weapon, you gotta name it something cool like Ultra Mecha-Nep Blade!”

     “What? No way, they saw through my technique! Well gee, I really need to level up my sneak skill, huh? I thought I’d grinded enough enough to at least be able to pull off a simple disguise like this... Man, did they change the difficulty curve on me or something? Give a girl a little warning first, am I right? Sheesh!”

“Hurray! More for Peashy!” Peashy went and started on her half of the pudding, which didn’t take long for a big eater like her to go through. Once the cup was emptied, she left her spoon in it. “All done! Now we can go get more, right?”

     “Abso-Nep-Ly!” She smiled, ridiculously wide at her own pun, despite the fact that it wasn’t very good. That didn’t matter to her, anyway. Everything was better when she put her name into it. “We just gotta be real sneaky, all right?” She closed a single eye and put her finger to her lips for a moment before speaking in a slightly quieter voice (although she was still being pretty loud). “And if Histy sees us, do you think you could pretend to cry? There’s no way she’ll deny us pudding if you do that!”

“Well alright then, my name is is elrtica astra or as most people call me Ea for short”. Although her voice had camed down she was still a bit nervous on the inside

     A loud, dramatic gasp was given, as if the girl’s name was the biggest plot twist in the whole series. “No way! A two letter name that I can’t turn into a cute nickname like Iffy or Histy? What were the writer’s thinking?!” This was followed by a small laugh and one of her usual grins.

“Nah, just joking, my nicknaming prowess can’t be thwarted that easily! So, Elly, tell me about yourself. Favourite games? Your stats and abilities? Favourite flavour of pudding?”

Neptune, why does your series mainly focus on the spin-offs and not on the main series that much? Not judging that idea or anything I'm just curious.

     “Cuz spin offs are super cheap and easy to make when you can just re-use assets from the main games! But our more hardcore fans would probably throw a fit if the programmers tried to pull stunts like that with the main series! Kinda lame, if you ask me. I’m not even the main character in all of the spin offs! I mean, come on, Noire? She is so not the protagonist type.”

     “Well, yeah, duh! I know I’m a Goddess, but I don’t have mind reading powers!” Not yet anyway, but she was determined to get them. They were probably some super secret unlock at level 999 or something like that.

Turning towards the voice a small smirk spreads across Viola lets out a smirk at the sight before her. So the goddess decided to grace her presence at the guild only to look for children based quests huh? Well two can play with that game.

“Of course! We have quests for the children who don’t even know how to pick up a sword. Tell me kid, I’ve never seen you around. Whats your name? Maybe I know your parents.” 

     An all too pleased smile spread across Neptune’s face at the reply that she was given, letting the obvious fly right over her head. It wasn’t often that citizens, especially those of her own nation, didn’t recongise her. This was an opportunity that didn’t present itself every day! While normal people might be offended by someone’s lack of faith in their abilities, Neptune thrived on it.

“See, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. How do you even hold swords, anyway? With your feet? Man, I’m such a noob, y’know? I’m Nepgya, nice to meetcha! You probably don’t know my parents though, they’re just a coupla old geezers who barely leave the house while yelling at little old me to go and do all the work.”

     “Aww, is this supposed to be one of those trick questions, since the last main game came out in 2015? Am I supposed to say something a generic NPC would say, like ‘I don’t know what’ll happen in the future’??? Come on, did you forget who you’re talking to?”

     “Of course it is! It’s not every day you get to talk to the series protagonist, y’know! I know I’m usually pretty busy with saving the world and stuff, but even a Goddess has to take a break once in a while, right?”

“Deal!” Peashy was certainly not going to say no to more pudding. “Here, I brought you a spoon.” She put it in Neptune’s hand before opening the pudding cup. “You can take the first half!”

     “Aw, well aren’t you just a peach.” She laughed, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically at her pun as she snatched the spoon and quickly gobbled up some of the pudding, making sure to leave more for the other, despite the fact that Peashy had likely had far too much pudding already. “Here you go, P-Ko! The bigger half’s all yours. Growing girls have to eat, after all!” She didn’t even pause to think about the logic behind her statement. If Neptune and her fellow Goddesses couldn’t grow or age, Peashy likely wouldn’t be any different.

     “Well aren’t you just one grumpy looking guy! Y’know, you really got that edgy villain kind of thing going on, sorta like you’d stab me in a back alley as an early game plot device, or something.” She paused, letting out an exaggerated “mmm” sound, as if trying to place where she’d seen him before, despite knowing for a fact that she’d never met the guy before. “Anywho, you know any good places to eat around here? I just flew in and boy are my arms tired.” An obnoxious laugh was let out before she continued. “Nah, just kidding, that’s what Goddess forms are for; flying.”

     An exaggerated sigh was let out upon entering the guild, complete with arms falling heavily to the Goddess’s side in an obvious (and extremely childish) display of unhappiness as she was forced by her oracle to get some work done before playing the newest Lowee games with her younger sister.

“Hey, you work here, right? Do you have any really easy quests? Like, where are the quests they give out to all the little kiddies who wanna play hero? Can you just give me one of those?”
