Planned Parenthood lack of funding?
Hello mommies and daughters! My post today is going to be a rant because of some things that have been brought to my attention from the news and my daughter. This is obviously a delicate issue that must be addressed by both women and men around the US. I understand how this topic seeps into religious topics, but my rant will be on the non-religious side, as it concerns the human body. Additionally, the information found in my rant has been carefully collected from informational places such as direct sources. Please read with sensitivity, thanks Gals!
So, it has been brought to my attention that many of the Planned Parenthood facilities are going under serious investigations in a large amount of states. This is a result of a video going viral a few years ago, of a woman receiving a botched abortion. This video set many off, understandably so. I’d like to first point out, there are claims that Planned Parenthood primarily provides abortions.
President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, attended many trials as a result. Many claims were thrown at her, ridiculous ones ladies! These claims were saying that abortions are all that go on, the Government is spending money funding these abortions, and the most ridiculous one claims that PP will perform abortions on pregnant women after 24 weeks and after. An abortion after 24 weeks is completely illegal, unless the life of the mother is at stake. The final claim says that all of the aborted fetuses are ripped to shreds for fetal tissue research.
With all these claims, the Government is taking action to block defunding for Planned Parenthood for a year (or more, depending on what they think they find!)
But the most frustration part of all this? Who do you think is deciding whether Planned Parenthood is not helpful or appropriate for women? That’s right; men!
So, Richards went in front of the House to defend against the claims of Fetal Tissue Research. She was bombarded with rushed question, cut off answers, rude attitudes (no surprise!). A man was questioning her, by the name of Jason Chaffetz. He seemed to blatantly ignore the simple FACT that PP is used by a huge amount of women all over the US for its inexpensive procedures and help for various issues. The men trying to run PP outta town also for get that it is there for not only family planning but also there for help for the reproductive system for MALES! It really just boggles my mind how uneducated, to be generous, these men are.
Planned Parenthood primarily provides breast examinations, gynecological exams, and they provide inexpensive forms of birth control. According to Cecil Richards, her corporate reports show that less than 1% of Planned Parenthood facilities actually aid in Fetal Tissue Research - which I might add, has helped to provide solutions for polio. Planned Parenthood released all of the necessary information for these trials. One stated that 3% of all procedures done by Planned Parenthood were abortions in the year 2013. THREE PERCENT.
Additionally, Planned Parenthood has helped to detect and prevent over “4,470,597 Tests and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.” This is a direct quote from their annual report for the 2013-2014 year. Also, “865,721 Pap tests and breast exams performed”, and “378,692 Pap tests performed - 487,029 breast exams performed - 87,988 women whose cancer was detected early or whose abnormalities were identified”. And finally, what I believe to be the case breaker! “3,577,348 Birth control information and services [were] provided.” Of these 3,577,348 birth control related visits, 1,440,495 emergency contraception kits provided - 516,000 unintended pregnancies averted by Planned Parenthood contraceptive services* (*Using formula developed by the Guttmacher Institute)”. This was according to the annual reports put out by Planned Parenthood that can be EASILY accessed online.
An online blogger, Steven Ertelt, wrote on article on lifenews.com explaining the appropriateness of the new slogan “Abortion. No Matter What.” He even sources the article in which he found that states that 92% of pregnant women who go to planned parenthood wind up receiving abortions. Upon clicking on his source, no actual source from PP appears, only additional articles from the same website. In his article, he says this information was “leaked” in the form of a video which, I don’t know about you but when I see the word “leaked” used for a very controversial and important topic, I run away screaming for the hills! Throughout the article there are many other links asking pro-lifers to click it.
I’d like to add that throughout my time looking through articles, written by men, against Planned Parenthood for whatever reason, there were no actual sources to anything respectable. I’d like to make a joke about this but I won’t. I’m sure you all know what I’d say anyway.
With all this research, I can assume that men have little to no idea what they’re talking about when they think they have the knowledge and right to speak on the female body. But no surprise here, sadly.
My daughter and I aren’t very wealthy and our healthcare doesn’t provide for many necessary procedures as some are seen as a luxury. I can assure you all that I trust Planned Parenthood with my body and my daughters’ body and to help whatever we need. I’m appalled and disgusted that the majority of people trying to defund Planned Parenthood are men, religious and nonreligious. Women are in for a great deal of damage if we allow men to decide what is best for OUR bodies. I hope you will all educate yourselves on this topic and not allow negative results to incur after Planned Parenthood facilities become defunded. As of right now, many news sites and even Planned Parenthood are projecting an increase in abortions, increase in STDs, a decrease in STD protection and a decrease in birth preventative contraceptives used, which will obviously spike unwanted pregnancies.
Please, my fellow mommies, stand up and fight back!
