hellooooo, been a long time since i last updated here!!

sad news about my beans that i was posting about: they got spindle-y and even though they were producing pods like crazy, my grandma threw them out without saying a word 😭 so i never got to harvest my beans, sadly. however, my flower bed is a more successful story. it went wild!!

i've seen a crazy amount of monarchs this year, many of them visiting my flowers!! as well as a huge variety of other butterflies and various pollinators. i'm so proud 🥲

got my tax return check, so i went out and treated myself to more seeds! spent the morning planting the tomato, squash, and pepper starts we bought, then headed into town early this afternoon. i bought...

mammoth sunflowers, bluebonnets, echinacea, morning glories, lavender, catnip, cilantro, parsley, and basil

the cilantro, parsley, and basil all went into a container, but as for the rest:

i planted the wildflower seeds i bought earlier this week in the long flower bed that runs the length of our porch, and mixed in some milkweed seeds i found that came from my garden two years ago. i had leftover space, so i planted the morning glories in a spot where they could climb, mixed the lavender and bluebonnets and gave them their own section, gave the echinacea its own section, and gave the catnip its own section. i also planted a few of the mammoth sunflowers in their own little spot in the bed! most of them though i planted on the south side of our house where theyll get plenty of sun.

i cant wait to watch everything grow!! with the leftover money, i bought bird seed and peanuts for the birds, and a hummingbird feeder for when the hummingbirds return in a few weeks 😁 overall im just sooo excited and happy. it feels really good to know im gonna have a beautiful flower garden this year, as well as being able to grow my own food.

casey's adventures in gardening 2025: day 2

today i started a new venture: trying to grow my own beans from a grocery store mix! (and i bought two pollinator mixes today so those are in the photo too - we'll get to that in a bit)

i sorted all of them into piles (with the exception of the split beans and the majority of the lentils) and ended up with 10 different varieties (plus possibly two extras? they were the same color as others just smaller).

then i got to planting! heres all my planters so far for this year. i planted the beans today and the others yesterday.

i also have plant starts of cherry tomatoes, cayenne peppers, bell peppers, and zucchini that i bought yesterday that we're waiting for the last frost to plant outside. those will all be going in pots on the porch. we have TONS of plant pots both on our porch and in storage, so no worries about running out. having so many will allow me to separate the bean varieties once they get bigger, that way they dont grow into a tangled mess.

as for the pollinator packets from earlier, theres a long flower bed that runs the length of our porch that im going to plant them in! that bed has been empty for like, 10 years since my grandma got too old to keep planting zinnias in it. this is really gonna liven up our porch. ive bought packets like this before and planted them where i used to live and they turned out gorgeous, though a lot of the varieties take to the second year to bloom.

we dont have a ton of money this month so next month is when im gonna go crazy buying and planting flowers and seeds. i know i definitely want mammoth sunflowers, and im going to pick up herb starters (basil, cilantro, parsley, chamomile, lavender) and some romaine starts. the romaine, cilantro and parsley are for my rabbits lol but the rest is for me. same with the calendula i showed earlier, for my pets, not for my enjoyment.

anyways, thats about it for today! ill do another check in like this likely in april when i get all the other stuff i want.

after years of waiting i finally got my hands on a thai constellation thanks to my local walmart!!

what it looks like moving 50+ plants across the state in a chevy sonic lol. today is officially my last day at my old house. i've made about 3 trips with my other stuff, and my plants are the last to go. i'm having to say goodbye to some, but if my dad can keep them alive i'll be back someday and i can get the remaining ones.

so, big news, i'm moving! bad news though is this means leaving my sunroom where my 100+ plants live. i'm moving in with my mom who's also a plant person, and there's not much room at her house, which means a massive downgrade. i've decided, these are the plants i'm keeping:

i have a few that didn't make the picture, but i think i can manage finding a spot for these. I'll probably have to buy a few growlights though. all my hoyas are coming, plus my other 'can't live without em' plants. i'm leaving the country at the end of this year and i trust my mom with my plants way more than my dad (a notorious killer of my plants whenever i leave them in his care). as for the rest of my plants, i have a few friends with green thumbs who i'm going to see if they want to take their pick of what's left.

it's been a fun 5 years with my plants, i love them all dearly, but i've wanted to downsize for a while. the time's finally come i guess! it's bittersweet, i look forward to the next era of my life, but some things have gotta go.

My Begonia chlorosticta seems to have settled into its terrarium. You can't see in the photo, but it's even put out a new leaf!

The night blooming cereus had a second set of blooms this year. This time I got up early in the morning to see if it stayed open all night/ Here it is in full glory in early dawn.

Oh man guys it’s happening!! Bc Rustic Spots ‘H&R’ rebloomed for me!! This is one of my favorite orchid flowers and I am just chuffed to absolute bits. It’s so vivid, so speckled, so straight-up gorgeous. My camera roll is destroyed. And it gave me two flowers this year! What a great little plant.
