goodness, i usually don't say stuff like this, but it's getting really hard to ignore and i just needa be real for a second
nothing pisses me off more than scammers taking advantage of the suffering of others. see, i've been occasionally reblogging posts for people who need it, and by now you're all aware of my stance of what's been going on recently. i want to do more, i really do, but atm i can only amplify the voices of those who want to be heard amidst all the tragedies.
so, imagine the disgust i felt when i was recently pinged by not one, but TWO spam accounts, using these horrible situations as bait to scam who knows how many people; taking advantage of their kindness. and don't worry, i checked! and here's the signs:
#1. the account's purpose is solely for asking for help, there's no original post of theirs that defines them as an actual person behind the screen.
#2. they ping hundreds if not thousands of people, ones that never interacted with this account until this very moment
#3. interactions are fabricated. if you look closer, the thousands of comments should be people wishing them well and being concerned, right? wrong. it's the same pleading message, over and over, pinging anyone who's shown any amount of sympathy for suffering.
it makes me sick to an unfathomable degree, this practice discourages and desensitizes people from actually reaching out to real people whose lives are actually on the line. if i can't use my wallet, then let me use my words and my platform. small as it may be, it's better than pretending nothing is happening, right?
