[id: a graphite doodle of jirou and hagakure from my hero academia, hugging in front of a heart shape with the words āba BUMā written over them. jirou looks surprised and flustered, almost swept off her feet, and one of her earlobes twirled into a heart shape. hagakure hugs her tightly, one of her feet kicked up behind her. end id]
that feeling when youāre so close to your crush you can hear her heartbeat. who needs to be able to see her when you can hear this

You ever think about all the ways being invisible can fuck a person up?
Cause I have.
So then, letās have a little chat about Hagakure Tooru.
Now, first off, just to clarify a few things, no, I do not think Hagakure hates her Quirk. I donāt think she hates being invisible. On the contrary, actually, I believe she likes her Quirk very much and finds being invisible really fun. But no matter how much she likes it, there are certain things caused by being invisible that you just canāt ignore.
The most prominent being the effect that invisibility will have on your body image.
Body image is a giant problem for many people, especially women. Women in particular feel the weight of societal expectations to be slender and curvy and to have a great figure and a small waist, and however much that mightāve changed in recent years, that societal pressure still exists. Itās what drives so many girls to develop eating disorders.
Imagine how much worse that pressure would be if people could only see the shape of your body.
Thatās essentially what Hagakure is, after all: sheās just a body whose lines are defined by clothes. No face, no hands, no hair, no expressions. Just the shape of a body.
When we think about people, we instinctively associate a face with their names. In many cases, we remember faces more than we remember names. But what if you donāt have a face for people to remember? What if, whenever people thought about you, the thing they associated with youāthe only thing they could associate with youāwas your body?
If the only physical thing people remembered about you was the shape of your body, imagine how much pressure that would put on you to have a good-looking body.
Imagine how much fucking pressure that would put on a young teenage girl when she realizes that everyone she ever meets is inevitably going to judge her body.
Puberty is a crappy enough time as it is, but for Hagakure it mustāve been hell as she realized her invisibility meant other people were always going to fixate on her body. Can you imagine how self-conscious that could make someone?
Thereās no way she wasnāt the type of person who stood in front of her bathroom mirror every night, inspecting every inch of her body, glaring at every ounce of fat, because she knew people would notice any chubbiness on her. Thereās no way she wasnāt ultra-careful about what she ate, monitoring everything that went into her system. Was she the type of person who counted calories? Not obsessively, but she definitely couldnāt help but notice the calorie count on food packaging, and she definitely couldnāt help thinking about the number of calories she was consuming, and she definitely ate less than she had before the realization hit her. Not enough to make anyone really worried, but enough that her parents would comment on how her stomach seemed to have shrunk since she was a kid, and every time Hagakure would laugh and wave the comment off like a joke.
Thereās no way she didnāt gain a sudden passion for exercising. And yes, I know that being a hero does require a certain amount of physical fitness, which conveniently lends itself to having a good figure (not that I think Hagakure became a hero just so she could look good). But Hagakure is definitely the type to push her training too far. Not in the way that someone like Midoriya would, who pushes himself because he wants to get stronger as fast as he can. She pushes herself to make sure sheās worked off any excess calories. She frequently pushes herself past that, to the point where sheās near total exhaustion. She pushes herself to the edge of injury. Thereās no way she hasnāt passed out at least once during class. It freaked her classmates out a lot, but she just said she hadnāt gotten a lot of sleep the night before, and the whole incident was brushed off.
Because thereās also no way Hagakure isnāt extremely good at hiding all of this insecurity. First of all, itās not like sheās insecure all the time. She is genuinely a very happy kind of person who enjoys life. Itās only at certain times that her insecurity rears its head: when sheās eating, when sheās training, when she stares at herself in the mirror, when sheās in the shower. But whenever she eats less than she wants to or trains more than she probably should, she always has the vague sense sheās doing something wrong. There is a part of her that feels what sheās doing is not healthy, but she knows her friends will make her stop if she tells them, and as much as she realizes that her actions are unhealthy, a much larger part of her doesnāt want to stop. Sheās cared about the way her body looks since she was twelve, and she canāt stop now. So sheāll never tell anyone about her insecurities.
She puts in the effort to hide them. She usually does eat three meals a day, because she knows her friends will be worried if she doesnāt. But if she skips a meal once in a while, itās definitely not as much of an accident as she tells her friends. She does let herself indulge sometimes. If sheās at a party or celebration or thereās cake in the kitchen (courtesy of Satou), sheāll let herself eat more than usual. Sheāll just make it up later with extra training (she never fails to make it up). Sheāll train with other people sometimes, but mostly she trains alone, so thereās no one around to stop her when she starts pushing herself too hard. She does a lot of training late at night, in her dorm room where sheās stashed a set of hand weights. The class has a running joke about how Hagakure can never wake up in the morning, but no one knows the real reason is because she often stays up really late exercising.
And what is this all for? Itās for the realization of an eleven-year-old girl that society will not be kind to her. Itās for the fact that she has an invisibility Quirk, and however much she loves her Quirk, it reduces her down to being nothing more than a body.
So, yeah, being invisible is cool and all, but itās also kind of fucked up.

In the vein of continuing to talk about Hawks as if heās going to survive this ark...
After all, this is over, I imagine Hawks cultivates his own network of spies and informants. He made a lot of contacts under LOV, heās able to maneuver the darkness ļæ¼a lot differently and he knows (and has always known) that the Hero Commission is flawed and cannot be trusted but he has still has a duty, still loves being a hero.
So he makes his own network to call from, builds his own shield of sorts against the evil thatās personally his own, acts as a spymaster over a bunch of cities, and undercover operations. He passes the important information to Endeavour when he needs to but handles a lot on his own, solving a lot of cases without the public ever knowing. It becomes a known secret that if something is going down you have to ask Hawks first, he fills a hole left by Sir Nightwing in terms of information gathering but heās like ten times as secretive. And no one ever suspects him because he is so public as the no.2 hero!
And everyone is always like āso tokoyami what did Hawks have you doing during your internships?ā expecting patrol and speed training as the answer and tokoyami is like āhe had me watch a building for 18 hours straight and report about who left and enteredā and I imagine he takes Shinsou on as an intern surprising everyone but everyone who knows, knows that Hawks is primarily using him for the spy operations, which Shinsou loves because he still gets hero experience. A lot of underground heroes come to love when their cases cross Hawks radar cause he pays a higher rate than normal. Any kid in 1-A who shows a penchant for deceit makes a trip through his office and grows in cunning which absolutely stresses out their teachers even more.
Just this Hawks that isn't being used as a pawn but is an active player in the game and is really good at it. The hero commission not realizing what they created until it's too late.

The first time Shouta sees what Hagakure looks like, itās because sheās covered in blood.
Sheās gaspingāhe can see red smeared around her mouth like bright lipstick, and his mind can fill in the empty space in between. Dust has settled on the right side of her face. There, the line of her cheekbone; there, the curl of fluttering lashes; there, the shape of a nose.
āHagakure,ā he says, dropping to his knees. Itās not hard to pinpoint the source of the bleeding. Sheās beenā impaled, and the thought of it is sickening; the cold metal bar, the concrete. A villain attack, an unstable building. Everything had been going fine until it hadnāt.
The bleeding girl whimpers. He unloops his capture weapon and sets it aside, then lifts his shirt over his arms and folds it. Places it over the wound, pads the area as best he can. Hagakure makes a low, pained sound, and Shouta almost hates that he can see the way her mouth trembles.
āHagakure, are you with me?ā
āSe- sen,ā she tries, and Shouta sees when she starts crying.
āItās okay,ā he says.
Shouta isnāt much of a liar, but this is no time for truths. How can he tell her how he sees her? Bleeding, severely injuredāand both of them helpless. He cannot tell herā¦
āSensei,ā Hagakure finally says, and she tries to turn and gags. Shouta keeps one hand pressed down firmly, but moves so he can gently lift her head and turn it. Hagakure gasps, almost retching; a line of red dribbles from the side of her mouth. āSensei⦠it hurts.ā
āI know,ā he says plainly, because she needs to hear that. āI know it hurts.ā
āIām scared.ā
āItās alright,ā Shouta tells her. He slides his knee under her head, uses his free hand to brush her matted hair out of her face. āIāve got you, Hagakure. Okay?ā
He canāt see her eyes. Shouta thinks thatās the most terrifying part. He can see the other parts of her but not her eyes.
āI- I-ā
And she starts crying again. Soft, stuttering noises.
Shouta takes his hand away for a second, and she whimpers.
āIām sorry,ā he tells her, āIām sorry, Hagakure, Iām going to try to reach someone again, okay?ā
He tries. Static, and then a burst of technicolor noiseā
ā āEraserheadā is- you?ā
āMidnight?ā he snaps.
āāin contact! Eraserhead⦠buildingā¦ā
āI need help as soon as you can send it,ā he says, heart pounding. āMidnight, now. Hagakure is in bad condition.ā
He wants to see Nemuri, so he can grab her by the shoulders and shake her and yell, where were you, where were any of you? So everyone can see the blood thatās crusting around his fingers, where were you?
He doesnāt say, sheās impaled, and he doesnāt say, if you donāt get here in the next few minutes sheāllā
Because he canāt say that, not to sweet Hagakure fighting to stay with him, not to himself.
āārescue efforts already⦠minutes. Hang tight.ā
āMake it quick, and bring medical help.ā
The other side lapses into quiet. He can hear a few orders being carried out, and here, in the real corner of the building theyāre hiding in, he can hear a distant rumbling as concrete and metal is moved aside.
āTheyāreā¦ā Hagakure murmurs. Her head lolls. āTheyāre⦠coming?ā
āYes,ā he says, and puts his hand back where it was, stroking her hair. āYes, Hagakure. Theyāre coming.ā
āāt hurts.ā
āI know.ā
āIām scared,ā she says again, repeating it like a broken recordābecause it is terrifying, it must be, if she is feeling any fraction of the fear that has cracked his chest in two. āSensei, I donāt⦠I donāt wantā¦ā
āIām not letting you go anywhere, you understand me?ā
Hagakure laughs a little. Shouta keeps pressing down, keeps holding. Her suit, newly designed, has caught the bloodāhe can see a deep red seeping across the invisible fabric and rendering it the color of wine.
āAlways⦠so strict,ā she says, and despite himself, Shouta smiles down at her. Ā
āCanāt let you off the hook.ā She closes her eyes; he catches the movement. āHagakure, I need you to stay awake for me.ā
Opens them again, and the relief that echoes through him is dehabilitating.
āOkay,ā she whispers.
And then, āSensei, will youā can you hold⦠my hand?ā
A gloved hand twitches, then lifts. He moves his own hand and catches it.
āIf itās too hard to talk, you donāt have to say anything,ā Shouta tells her, āokay? You donāt have to tell me anything. I know. Iām here.ā
She makes a wordless sound.
Shouta squeezes her hand; she squeezes back.
āI wanna⦠be a hero,ā she says.
āYouāre going to be a wonderful one.ā
Her chest catches, and then goes back to its unsteady rhythm.
āI thought maybeā¦ā
Shouta squeezes her hand again as she trails off, and Hagakureās aware enough to squeeze back.
Distantly, the sound of help.
āEraserhead!ā
āWeāre here,ā he shouts, feeling his own voice echo. āHere!ā
Lets go of Hagakureās hand and feels the fingers shift. Lifts his hand to his mouth and whistles, three sharp, piercing whistles. Help.
Her body is so small. Sheās so small, and so young, and the bloodā andShouta canāt save her. He hadnāt been able to save Shirakumo, and he canāt save Hagakure either.
Shouta takes her hand again. By now Hagakure is whispering something; Shouta puts his head down, turns his ear and hovers over her mouth so he can still hear her.
āāhero⦠so people could see me,ā she gasps. Then coughs, a rattling sound. āAnd so other people could⦠be seen.ā
The first piece of rubble is finally moved aside, and Nemuriās face appears in it. She turns and shouts back at her team, and the rubble is being cleared away.
Sunlight slips in, just a little shaft of it, but enough to light the scene. Blood on Hagakure, on her face, her side; on Shouta, on his hands.
The hand in his is cold and trembling, but he grasps it tighter. He squeezes. She squeezes back.
āMedic!ā someone hollers, as the rest of the collapsed building is cleared. Shouta clutches Hagakure tight.
āItās okay?ā she asks.
āYeah,ā he tells her. āItās going to be alright now. Iām not losing you.ā
She canāt answer him. He squeezes her hand, and there is a longābreathlessāmoment where she doesnāt squeeze back. Her chest seizes, and then her fingers move faintly in his.
As help comes, as the sky is exposed around them, as the rescue efforts continue, Shouta keeps his eyes on Hagakure. He canāt see her eyes, but she can see his. Thatās important.
āIām always looking at you,ā Shouta promises, and his voice cracks. āI see you, Hagakure. I promise. Iām looking at you.ā
Hey can someone hug these poor kids and give them a breakĀ please?

Im getting really tired of seeing Monoma being portrayed as a crazy dude, when clearly, the first time he show up, he was this cunning, clever and just over all an intimidating adversary.
He deserves so much better than this.Ā
Just look at his goddamn stats:
This boy is smarter than Shoto, Bakugo and THE MAIN PROTAGONISTā¦. BUT THATS NOT ALL! He also has an extraordinary technique and he knows how to work with others.Ā
And you are trying to tell me that he is just this weird, annoying crazy guy?
Nope, I canāt accept that.
With those stats and with his extravagant personality, Monoma could actually be a really interesting character. Just please, for the love of god, stop making him a comic relief.
Finally someone said it.Ā
THIS
THIS
Comic relief is one thing but please stop portraying him as this mentally unhinged nut job (and also make his mental health issues a joke? Thatās not cool). Monoma is smart, skilled, and highly cooperative. He figured almost exactly to the number how many students Midnight would let pass the first round, he figured out Urarakaās strategy against Bakugou before the entire crowd did, we see him borrow a quirk and immediately turn around and use it perfectly, and frankly he only lost in the sports festival because he picked a fight with Bakugou specifically ā even Aizawa admitted as much.
Heās smarter, more skilled, and more cooperative than IIDA, and that perfect square boy is 2nd in his class grades-wise, was the first to have a super move, and was willing to fail his provisional license to make sure the rest of his class passed. Iida is my fav and Iām shocked his stats are lower than āthat crazy 1B guyā
Monoma could be so much more, like a lot of side characters in bnha, but he specifically is one of those characters damned to never act how theyāre canonically coded āfor the lolzā.
Late⦠Again⦠I suck at this lol
Inktober day 5: Fav quirk, Tokoyami Fumikage and Dark Shadow.
I honestly had a lot of fun with this one and Iām normally not all that good at clothes or dynamic poses so this is like my proudest achievement. Also I high key think Tokoyami is secretly a style icon but everybody be sleeping on him.
(Please donāt judge me for my inability to draw handsā¦)
Bringing this bad boy back because I plan on doing a redraw soon using my new copic markers š
