Liz looked at the bottle he was pointing to and nodded. To be honest it was her favorite brand of whiskey. But she needed different kind of brands, even though her business was exclusive, people came from different types of families, so prices were different too. “So you go to different places and taste other brands only to reaffirm yours is the best” she said to him before she sipped from her drink.

“I used to,” he answered a little softly, but kept his stoic, strong face as he spoke towards the girl. “Now I just do it cos it’s a convenient way to get myself completely blitzed.”

“You’re the second person I know that says nothing can beat straight whiskey.” He laughed and nodded his head. “That’s fair. I now kind of wish I had a day off so I could get hammered myself but that will just have to wait for another day. If you need anything let me know.”

Tic chuckled, “Then it must be true, right?” Another shot slid down his throat effortlessly and clanked against the bar top. “Y’all don’t have a single day off? That’s gotta be against some sorta laws, ain’t it?”

Tony laughed, putting his hand to his chest. While something long term played around in his mind, he was ultimately married to his work at the moment. “A hot fuck is actually what I’ve been looking for and wanting.” He shrugged before turning towards Tic, “I mean unless you’re offering yourself.” He smirked tossing back the rest of his drink before waving his hand at the bartender, denying wanting anymore.

Tic raised his brow in interest, “Oh really? So sittin’ up next to a good lookin’ Southern man a ‘old fashioned way of meetin’ enough for ya?” he asked complete with air quotes. “Yeah, darlin’, I’m offerin’.”

Dot chuckled and shook her head. “Just doing my rounds around the place. No thanks. Can’t drink on the job. What brings you here? Besides the not bad but worse than your alcohol?” She was teasing him. 

“On the job? Y’all a waitress or somethin’?” he smirked as he looked the girl over again. “Just nothin’ much else to do. Thought I’d come out, see all who’s ‘round.”

Tony chuckled and nodded. “I can’t say I’ve ever done any of those dating apps, however, I do know people that have gone through that. I tend to like to meet people the old fashioned way.” He didnt like the not knowing people on the internet, especially because of the way people portray themselves as someone they aren’t. Tony enjoyed getting to know someone by tone and body language. “I take it you’ve had the unfortunate experience with that sort of thing.” He asked bringing his drink to his lips.

Tic chuckled back in answer to the other man, “Yeah, but that’s cos y’all are lookin’ for a relationship right?” Tic asked with a roll of his eyes, “I ain’t gonna bother myself with all that. A good, hot fuck is really all I’m lookin’ for from anyone.” Another full glass came into view and Tic brought it in his hand and to his mouth in a fluid motion. “Just in the sense that people use photos from about 15 years ago. Still - a fuck is a fuck right?” he chuckled into his drink.

“Then why are you drinking something that isn’t good?” She asked very curiously. She didn’t understand eating or drinking something that you didn’t really care for. 

“I didn’t say it wasn’t good,” he corrected, “I said it wasn’t as good as mine. And why i’m drinkin’ it - just cos,” he answered with a smirk. “What brings y’all round here? Need a drink?”

“You get scholarships for such a thing.” Tony smiled. He was left on his own after his father disowned him for being bisexual after coming to the realization on his own in high school. He might have fallen in his footsteps but it didn’t mean he was anything like the man. “Also helped when taking notes and trying to highlight in books and whatnot. Made multitasking a breeze.” He shrugged. It was something he was proud of. Being able to accomplish something on his own without the help of his father made it better. “Mutual friend, what a mistake that was.” He scoffed and shook his head. “So, I am just trying to find something to do without me finding myself at the office.”

Tic just nodded, uninterested in any sort of higher education - it had never been his calling and he had found over the years that he wasn’t going to be concerned about things he was never going to have. “Sounds like an interesting skill,” he said, mostly brushing it off. “Ah, well,” Tic shrugged, “doesn’t sound any worse than those app datin’ things. They never look like their pictures.”

Tic nodded as he seemed to have won the argument, “Don’t gotta have sorrows to wanna get hammered,” he reminded the other. Tic’s eyes went to the outstretched hand before taking it as well, “Tic D’Arcy,” he said simply. “So what finds yourself here? Work or pleasure?”

“It just means you know a lot about whiskey. It’s not a bad thing at all. I wish I knew more than just bourbon good, everything else is like drinking piece of carbon.” He did his best to make a joke. He looked over the bar and nodded. Now he knew why that brand was in the forefront. “What’s your favorite whiskey based drink? Do you mix them or just know what you like?”

“That I do, Darlin’,” he said with a nod. “Bourbon is good. Scotch is too, and not much beats a good straight whiskey.” Tic gave a shrug as he sucked down another glass, letting it glide all the way down his throat. “I should care more and have a better answer, sugar, but truth is, I just like what gets me hammered.”

“How many of those shots have you had?” Dot asked curiously. “What makes yours better?”

“Lost track after ‘bout 7, darlin’,” he answered before turning towards the voice that came closer towards him. “Just ‘bout everythin’,” he answered again, “mine’s smoother, stronger, got better flavors.”

Jax nodded in understanding and smiled. “Oh with that information you are a  connoisseur of whiskey. That’s really cool.” He extended his hand. “Nice to meet you. Jax Deckard. Title not as cool as yours. It’d be a damn shame if we don’t have your label here. What’s it called?”

“If connoisseur means my family makes it, then yea, I guess I am,” he said, half uninterested if he was being honest. He knew what his father was expecting of him, and he really wasn’t looking to be apart of anyone’s expectations. “Right back atcha, Jax. Nah, it’s here, I can see it,” he said, pointing back behind the bar, “Dark Halo,” he explained, “It’s a part of the larger D’Arcy brand - whiskey’s bourbons, what have ya.”

“Pleasure to meet you, Tic.” Tony smiled and savored the burn of the alcohol. Being stood up was never a pleasant thing and it certainly never happened to him. “Ambidextrous, actually.” He shrugged, it was something he never thought about. “It helped in law school surprisingly.” He graduated in the top of his class following in his fathers footsteps, except he was sure his father wouldn’t have dared to step foot in an establishment like this. “Perhaps, but a simple text message would have made me a lot happier. I do believe in staying true to your word despite me being a lawyer.”

“Cheers” Liz replied before taking a sip of her non alcoholic drink. Looking at the man next to her, she smirked. “Really? Fool of me we had the best of the best here” the brunette chuckled.

“Ya do have it,” He said, pointing back to the top rail drinks behind the bar, “See that Dark Halo Whiskey? That’s my family’s brand. I just try other stuff cos I’m supposed to take it over and I should know what I’m doing blah blah blah,” he said waving off the rest of his story.

“Looks like you are trying to drink away your sorrows.” Nick said as he waved two fingers at the bartender getting each of them another shot. “To the future.” He smiled holding the shot out to the other man with a hum. “What has you in the drinking mood?” He asked charmingly.

Jax debated on walking by but from the corner of his eye he saw the guy’s face and decided to take those few steps toward him. “Not strong enough or didn’t go down easy?”

“Just plain not as good,” he smirked up at the man who came into view, “And I know a thing or two ‘bout different whiskeys,” he pointed out, “I’m Tic D’arcy. My family has a large Whiskey label back in Louisana,” he added.

“I don’t normally tell my plans to total strangers at a bar of all places.” Tony chuckled. “Anthony Carlton, but call me Tony.” He stick his left hand out towards the other. “But he was. It’s just too bad he couldn’t ‘hang’ isn’t that what the kids now are saying?” The lingo felt weird falling from his lips but he had a small smile playing at the edges. The alcohol starting to take away the sting of rejection and lower his guard a little.

Tic looked down at the hand before taking it himself, “Atticus D’arcy, but people call me Tic,” he said, “So you’re a lefty too, huh?” he smirked. Tic hummed a little, “Maybe he came in, saw y’all and got intimidated so he left?” Tic offered.

Tony gestured towards the bartender for another drink and turned towards Tic with a smirk, “Just having some mild entertainment before I retire for the evening and finish up some work since my prior plans for the evening fell through.” His eyebrows raised as he sighed and took a small drink of the whiskey enjoying the burn against his throat.
