I have been on Instagram for about 13 days. I posted about 20 posts and 'attracted' 11 followers. What do these stats reveal? Am I not getting it? Apart from the fact that it was very time consuming because I didn't know who exactly I was 'posting' to..and what my 'brand' is...(BRAND?! 😣) by the end of 7 days ...I was also thinking... why I am here?! Instagram was suggested by a social media obsessed relative of mine. She says it is the way to get among other things, business done. She is in the business of being seen. I don't know exactly what her business is..but who cares...'see' and 'be seen' seems to be the objective by many. So I decided to see if...even though I was (am) not sure that socially or professionally this is for me. If the objective is to drum up interest by putting yourself out there, then I am skeptical. For how exactly do you do that? For example, which groups/users do I try to influence and why? How? Is it just a case of organizing what you have or the service you are offering, or the product you have and putting it out there and the rest will happen? Of course I am making a big assumption here, this being the view that we all believe, along with our friends/relatives/aunties and uncles, that 'our product/service/event' is the best thing! To the 'users' or potential customers out there..that may well not be the case. From what I can see, social media is like travelling into space...there are millions of planets (users) out there...all 'selling' something... As I have likened these 'users' to planets..guess what..you could be floating around aimlessly for millions of years...I have bills to pay and a life to live...so I much prefer some solid returns if you get my drift! It is why I feel giddy from just the onslaught of images that look 'samey-samey'.....as I click into Instagram to check my 'ratings'....clearly I am not getting it. So I am a novice. In every imaginable way. I designed a game that I had an idea for and after a long slog, and a huge learning curve...it came into fruition. I have backed up this leap into the unknown with extensive research and technical know-how. The stage I am at is...print and distribution...via start up funding. Voila...enter social media. This little piggy is ready to go to market! Let's see what happens as nothing ventured nothing gained!🚦🆗☔️🐷 The product is a quirky game. It is based on carnival..the TT model that has been transplanted globally. It is a send-up..almost irreverent (but with humour) about the 'crass' aspects of carnival commercialism - a serious dilemma facing Trinbagonians and by extension of that, the 'carnivophiles' all over the world, who are signing up 100%to the jam-and-wine model without any knowledge or sense about the real roots of carnival. Have I made a good product? Will it sell? I ask myself daily...and I mostly respond in the same way...yes and yes? It is my 'purple cow'. By this I mean I have taken something that is there, the carnival. Our biggest and most successful export and made a game to entertain and to revive some of the cultural traditions at play. The 'experience' of carnival of 'playin mas' is a global collective expression of a celebration rooted in Trinidad and Tobago's history and that experience has been embraced by so many other different nationalities. In a way it is a 'niche' product that has a well established and growing primary market. My game is new, never been done and for sure, with all the research undertaken I can say with certainty, there is no game like this out there. The 'Connector': People from all walks of life, who develop a relationship that bridges a gap.. through the love all things carnival! One hundred cities all over the world have become lovers of the Trini-based carnival model not Brazil’s, but TnT. They are all feeling the love...so the Play Mas...Trini Style! The 'Creative Spirit': Enter... PlayMas...Trini Style.. the board game! Taking the experience of ‘playin mas’ – the entire circus and packing it all into a box!
