“1… 2… 3--” 

Nervous hands pushed open the door. Advertising her arrival to her younger sister. The countdown had been somewhat of a BAND-RIPPING affair. She’d needed to gather the strength and confidence to see her little sibling right now. Recent fights had left them… STRAINED… to say the least. And Makoto’s back was beginning to break with the amount of STRESS exerted upon it. The tickets in her right palms looked to CHANGE BOTH. “Makoto… I…” Harsh swallow. Her ego was already dying a slow and painful death. Sae was not often one to apologize. And it was ALWAYS to Makoto Niijima. Sadly one of the few ways Sae could outwardly show she CARED. “I just want to say… I…” DEEP BREATH. “I’m sorry…” Spare hand had ran itself through silver hair at those words. Emphasized by the heavy exhale. “I know things have been… TAXING… In recent weeks.” Pause. “More taxing than usual.” She just wanted – NEEDED – Makoto to know she MATTERED. “And I actually got to thinking. After our last fight. That… That maybe we could both do with a day less stressful…” Hand proffered up the tickets. “So I hope you don’t mind, but I got us a pair spa reservations…” This was where things got DOUBLY-ANXIOUS. “Figured we could maybe soak for a while in the hot springs.” Hot springs being a… NUDE AFFAIR. And Makoto still incessantly faithful toward Ann Takamaki. “And maybe… Spend that night doing… something other than CRIMINOLOGY & LAW…” Sometimes Sae got scared. Ever since the Phantom Thieves hit the news. That maybe these sudden changes of hearts. This indescribably controlling GUILT. Had been their doing. But thankfully it didn’t take MUCH to find evidence that she had ALWAYS been this way. Had her scared she ALWAYS WOULD BE… “I-I understand if…”

Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Ann Takamaki was a BOMBSHELL with no idea whether or not her fuse was LIT. It was an odd sensation. And sadly one she’d been STRUGGLING WITH ever since finding out about Makoto and Sae’s little… ONE NIGHT STAND. A worry within her very being that disturbed her and made her second guess her every decision. Like RIGHT NOW. “Come on! We should totally get Carmen & Johanna tattoos for each other! It’ll be so awesome! And its not like anyone else would even SEE THEM let alone know what they HELL they were and meant!” But there in lay the problem. It’s not like anyone else would even SEE THEM? Was that the real reason for this whole entire thing? The idea of Makoto getting the tattoo being some kind of PROOF OF DEDICATION? Reassurance that any sexual inclinations toward Sae were DEAD & BURIED. And that their one night stand would stay just ONE? Or was it – As she’d thought. And now hoped. Natsuki hadn’t been ENTIRELY SURE what the plan would be. “So, umm, Niijima-san, I-I was wondering…” In fact, she hadn’t even woken up – Nor even LEFT THE HOUSE with such a damn near SUICIDAL idea on her brain. “If you were free… After school?” It wasn’t until she’d reached 2nd Street Boulevard – And the railway overpass – That it SNAPPED into place. “C-Cause I was thinking…” An impulsive intrusion. Unwelcome she CLAIMED. But oh how she’d OBSESSED over it… “Maybe I could break curfew. Just this once.” An obsession that was even more dangerous than Papa had preached her manga addiction to be. “I-It turns out that railway overpass by my house is closed for construction, so I gotta take a detour to and from school... And I was thinking… Maybe while taking that detour I get a LOST a little bit on my way home…” Hands were balled up in her skirt – Nerves were ON FIRE with anxiety. She was shuffling in place, biting at her nip. This would mark the first time NATSUKI had approached MAKOTO. It had always been the OTHER way around prior. And if Makoto said ‘no’, well… (((SHE COULD ALREADY FEEL HER HEART BREAKING…))) “Thinking… Maybe you could get lost with me?”

UNDENIABLE ADORATION on Makoto’s face felt almost INSULTING. A fact Natsuki did her damnedest to not take as the anything less than the COMPLIMENT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. “I’m not joking!!” She argued out as Makoto made attempts to soothe her pathetic-feeling heart. “I’m supposed to be STRONGER than this!!” Stronger than what? Did having someone else to lean on really her make her WEAKER? Or was she the same strength she always had been -- Just absent a need to USE IT? In truth she was grateful to have someone else’s strength there to hold her up. It could get... So hard sometimes... On her own... “WAHH~!!” Gasp out, little pastel girl wriggling in her fellow senior’s every more CONSTRICTING grasp. She should’ve hated it. “W-WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!” It was the smile on her face that had pushed her over the edge.

That biased & stubborn hatred toward Ann was not Makoto’s fault – If she had it her way, everyone would come out of this CHAOTIC MESS of emotions, HAPPY. (Idealistic & unrealistic). “Y–You know that this isn’t my first choice!” Words were barely strangled out through jagged & sharp intakes of air – Seemed, no matter how hard she tried to fill her lungs with oxygen, she couldn’t! Head was GROGGY. Footing wobbly – Was she having a panic attack? Tears were free-falling down pale cheeks at this point. Every smack her big sister delivered to that beautiful face made Makoto FLINCH & CAVE INTO HERSELF. “Th–This is only happening because you insist upon giving me an ultimatum! Why can’t I just have BOTH? My sister AND my girlfriend?” That was the first time either of the high-school students had used that title. Up until now, they’d been dancing around the commitment – Simply enjoying their time together. Perhaps that was what had SOOTHED her guilty conscience that night her & Sae got carried away. She’d been drunk. They’d decided it was a MISTAKE. Yet, Makoto had a strong suspicion that the……Sexual tension between the two siblings was playing a huge part in her big sis’ VEHEMENT HOSTILITY. “Sis, please—You aren’t disposable—I–I can’t live without you! I love you! I just—Stop hurting yourself, please!?” Sae’s face was BURNING RED & BLOODY & all the younger girl wanted to do was rush to the kitchen & wet down a towel – Clean her wounds & take care of her. However, she KNEW that any contact would be met with physical violence. 

          “Sis, you’re bleeding. Please—Let me—” Voice died in the back of her throat when her sister twisted away from her – REFUSING to look at her any longer. DENYING HER HELP. “Y–You should drink some water. I could make you something high in sodium—” Tall silver-haired woman was now descending the staircase – DEFEATED. But, Sae couldn’t leave it at just that. Oh no, no, no. She needed to cut Ann’s heart open & rub salt into the wounds – Needed to make the blonde HURT as bad as she did. VENGEFUL & CHILDISH. Even when they were children, the other had been this way. Lashing out when her pride was wounded. SORE LOSER. It was something the Niijima siblings shared in common – Though, Makoto had never been allowed to lash back at Sae. There was something DOWNRIGHT EVIL twinkling in those blood-red depths – Sent a chill shooting down her spine – “Sis…Don’t do anything you can’t…” TOO LATE. Just like that, all of their disgusting, sinful secrets were spilled out onto the floor in front of her very girlfriend. Honor student’s eyes shot wide as saucers – Felt like she’d taken a fist to the sternum & her knees were threatening to buckle beneath her weight. 

          Fists balled TIGHTLY at her sides – Nails digging deep into the soft flesh of palms until she could feel sticky-crimson painting fingertips. Gaze remained GLUED INTENSELY on the staircase – Mostly because she didn’t want to turn & look at Ann. Stomach was churning back & forth like a violent storm raging inside her gut. She feared that she might purge the contents any second now – “Ann, she—” Was there a point to lie? “I–It happened ONE time. I–I was intoxicated and—She was scolding me—Somehow it escalated and—”

Seeing her sister like this fucking HURT. Problem was... Sae Niijima was hurting, too. A rarity -- At least on the outside. And it made it rather... DIFFICULT to be a good guardian. Anxiety was creeping all over her sister’s body. Tears streaking down her cheeks. Barely even holding herself up on her two toothpick legs she was shaking so much. Downright PLEADING HER CASE. Wanting. No. NEEDING. To make sure that her elder sibling felt WANTED & LOVED. And yet the words sounded so hollow in the face of the action that had just went down. Yes. They’d decided it to be a MISTAKE. Yes. They’d both buried it down in their heads. But was Sae truly the only one for which it kept CREEPING BACK UP? Would Makoto truly be HAPPY with Ann Takamaki? Could she live without THAT happening again? Sae was starting to learn that SHE COULDN’T. “This is happening because YOU made a decision, Makoto. Because you DEFIED my wishes and came to the conclusion that sex with this HARLOT was worth more than the DEEPEST BONDS between us.” Words were chosen with intent. Advertising the implications of a LOVE-LESS-SISTERLY. “You love me yet you crave her? You’re lying to one of us.” Logically untrue, and yet for Sae it was impossible to comprehend then idea of loving ANYONE BUT Makoto Niijima. That girl was the only thing she had left on earth worth FIGHTING FOR. She’d be damned if anything happened to her. And she’d never let ANYONE take her away from her. “Don’t tell me what to do! Haven’t you done that enough for ONE NIGHT?” Another vicious slap. Her cheek would be WELTING come morning. But hopefully so would Ann’s heart. Words that came out were intended and weighed and LACERATING. Sae’s ironic lack of conscience proven by the simple indifference with which she addressed her sister. “Why would I want to take it back? Why would YOU? You love your girlfriend... RIGHT? I’ll take your suggestion for water and sodium into account.” With that she’d stumbled away. Seeking refuge in a bathroom that would soon reek of her own BILE...

Was she dead? Or was she NUMB? Hard to tell... If not then Ann had to say it was a STRANGE SENSATION to know your heart was thundering in your chest and yet being entirely incapable of FEELING IT. Then again... If she was dead. Then death lacked the PEACE she’d always hoped it had. “M-Makoto...” Name was the FIRST THING that came to her mind. And spoken as if to test that her voicebox STILL WORKED. A sign that the knife that Sae just drove through her head was indeed METAPHORICAL and that she was still very much ALIVE. “You....” Oh, of all the things Ann Takamaki had gotten wrong in her lifetime. Why the hell had she gotten THIS RIGHT?! Was this her penance? God’s Judgment? “You... With... With HER?” She wasn’t even what felt worse. The fact that it was her SISTER. The fact that Ann believed she and Makoto were on this intimate journey TOGETHER. Or the fact that Makoto Niijima had given her body to the very VILLAIN in their fairy tale story. This was like Shrek fucking Farquaad. Hermione sleeping with Voldemort. Akira marrying Kamoshida. And of course it had been her worst fear for OH-TOO-LONG. She should’ve said something sooner... “Intoxicated? When? With me? Oh-- OH GOD...” Had she still been WEARING ANN’S MARKS when it happened? “How does something like this just ESCALATE?” Click of her tongue and a snarl. She tried her best to remember one simple word. To keep it in the realm of conscious thought. GIRLFRIEND. It kept trying to escape. She wouldn’t let it. Couldn’t let it. It was the very symbol of hope she needed right now.” “Can you please LOOK AT ME?” Didn’t she deserve THAT at least?

Each new day constantly taking a SLEDGEHAMMER to her guard and making her wonder more and more each day Makoto Niijima truly was that Parfait Girl she’d always DREAMED ABOUT. “A-Are you out of your–” Catch of her own emotions. Now was not the place to LOSE TO THEM. “What makes you think–” Another catch. In truth she just felt an OBSESSIVE NECESSITY to push Makoto away right now. Love was one of those things FORBIDDEN of the atrophied girl. And Papa would beat the shit out of her if he found out she had found someone – ANYONE – to love other than him. To add in the factor of Makoto being a GIRL with a PROSECUTION OFFICER for a sister. Oh there was NO WAY IN HELL that would do… “I just– I mean-…” Tremulous beat of her heart. She was scared. SCOFF and an elegant step backward. Brow furrowing and the hand on her hand crumpling up into a SHAKING FIST. “Well, welcome to the club, DOLT!” Deceptively cool-blue eyes burned with an ironic rage. More befitting of Weiss’s ICY JUDGMENTAL STATURE. “In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met ANYONE who has annoyed me MORE in my entire life! And I’m a SCHNEE!!” Seriously, she HATED that she LOVED her narcissistic and exigent family. Especially that little brat of a brother and her abusive worthless father. “So TRUST ME that means A LOT.” Of course only half of Makoto’s statement applied to them. “You’re just always so RIGHT – HUH? “Huh?” Had the silver-haired girl ever come across so… CLUELESS? Truth was the words caught her off-guard. And it took an extra second too long for them to FULLY REGISTER. Drawing out a tiny gasp and a light pink crawl. “What are you–…” Pause. Disbelief. Memories of drunken nights. And lustful dreams. OF COURSE. She swallowed hard. “Is– Is that really appropriate?” Sae wasn’t often one to wear shorts. She was almost always found in her SUIT & BLAZER. It was a display of confidence and power. A rigid formality that forever kept her one step above – Or at the very least a step IN LINE with her cohorts. However the Sun was baking the city of Tokyo in its HOTTEST HEATWAVE TO DATE. And quite frankly, if Sae wasn’t out in public, she REALLY had no interest in sweating herself half to death in a stupid suit that choked her freedom at the best of times. As such, she was wearing a smart white blouse (to minimize HEAT ABSORPTION) as well as a pair of tailored grey shorts. (Not the brightest color – But grey was simply more formal [AND PRETTIER] than beige.) “They, umm…” They WERE pretty tight – HUH? “I guess I haven’t had to wear them in… a while…” Not since the air-con broke during her COLLEGE DORM DAYS. (Yes, she still went to college – Just not to study LAW [She took a Criminology class, naturally.]) “Are they… TOO TIGHT? Should I change them?” Of course, that WASN’T Makoto’s intention. This was just another start in their cyclic game of CHICKEN.

          INSTANT REGRET – The un-sisterly comment had tumbled over her lips before she had the opportunity to swallow it. It had been YEARS since the last time Sae Niijima wore something so tight & revealing – & back then, Makoto hadn’t been sexually active. She’d hardly even noticed. (Not to say she hadn’t noticed at all – That would be a blatant lie). “I–Is what appropriate? It–It’s simply an observation.” Such a DRASTIC CHANGE would startle anyone – That’s all it was. She was shocked. Nothing more. Even she couldn’t convince herself THAT was the truth. Slender digits picked away anxiously at black tights & she tried her damnedest to focus her attention elsewhere – Ogling your big sister was…REVOLTING & REPREHENSIBLE. Even with their history. Especially with their history. “No!” Cheeks flushed bright pink. Why did she sound so desperate to keep her sister in those itsy-bitsy, skin-tight shorts? “They most certainly aren’t TOO tight. Th–They look good on you, sis. I like them.”

If Sae Niijima had felt it -- COULD STILL FEEL IT -- Then clearly her younger sister had to be feeling it, too. “Your observation appeared to invoke emotions.” And she wasn’t just talking about SHOCK. “So? Spill it. How did your observation make you feel?” What was the prosecutor’s endgame here? Was she seek to throw gasoline on the FIRE OF GUILT that burned her sister? (Burned them BOTH.) Had to be. There was no way she was trying to ENABLE such abominable behaviour -- RIGHT? “Be careful. You don’t want to ruin your-- Sister...?” Way the girl had shouted out had caught her off-guard. Even she hadn’t planned for such a DESPERATE PLEA from the younger girl. Had her insides all TINGLING SOMETHING HOT. (Even as her heart worried ever-so-slightly about the fidgety anxiety clearly firing across synapses.) “So you LIKE that they’re tight?” Brow raised. Not that she deserved to hold any judgment. After all, she was the girl that had known of her sister’s... ATTENTIONS... And yet had failed to think TWICE about wearing what were perhaps her more REVEALING & PROVOCATIVE clothes. On a hot summer’s day no less.

“SOMETIMES.” Simple, one note response to start off. Though in her head part of it WAS about liking flies. She really just… DIDN’T LIKE PEOPLE. Or rather, didn’t like trusting people. Trusted people always HURT MORE. That said, deep down in her heart, Natsuki was LONELY. She didn’t trust people. But… Well… She didn’t exactly DISLIKE what was happening right now. “But not everyone wants to be your fly. Some people just wanna be a wasp.” That made sense – RIGHT? Like some people were only interested in what you had to offer them and would STING YOU if you got too close. “You’re very persistent, aren’t you?” Was that an insult or a compliment? Not something Natsuki paid too much mind toward. ESPECIALLY when she was mostly just ANNOYED at the girl for staring at her so. But Natsuki was at a crossroads. She could try Makoto’s advice, and be polite. And then be RIGHTEOUSLY INFURIATED when Makoto hurt her two weeks from now. Or she could be mad at her now. And save herself from PARANOID PAIN. (That may never come…) “Hm. Well, I mean… They, uh– It starts quite slow. They’re really just rather ordinary at the start.” PARFAIT GIRLS… She wouldn’t lie. It was nice to not be MOCKED. “But the deeper you read, the more you see they’re not really ordinary at all…” They were… BROKEN ON THE INSIDE. But they had each other. And they each had little pieces remaining that the others LACKED. Without each other, there were just some things their individual brains COULDN’T do…

“What? Why are you asking?” Most people DIDN’T. Most people just assumed she had an INEPT GENEALOGY. And that was every bit the CHILD FREAK her father treated her as. (But wasn’t that equally HIS FAULT? Probably Mama’s…) “Not since lunch…” LIAR. She had missed lunch too. And breakfast. There was rarely any food in the fridge. And Papa NEVER gave her lunch money. But Natsuki couldn’t let ANYONE know that. Otherwise Papa would get in trouble. And THEN who would love her? “We really shouldn’t…” DO EITHER… She had a curfew. One she was ALREADY missing today. Plus Papa was drunk. Plus Papa didn’t like her eating. Especially takeaways. Plus Papa didn’t like strangers. If he saw Makoto. Or food in her teeth. Well… Did Makoto notice how she SHRUNK INTO HER CHAIR? (Hopefully she’d just drop the topic entirely.) “What about you?” Pause. “I mean… Do you need to eat, too? What kind of literature do you read? Do you like flies?” Both a DIVERSIONARY TACTIC and a conscious effort to finally ask about Makoto. “You’re not like most people, Niijima-san.” Another pause. Kick at her brain. This INCESSANT NEED to not get her hopes up. “At least I don’t THINK…”

          “Hm. Some people…Just want to be a wasp?” Admittedly, there was something in the TUMULTUOUS way Natsuki spoke that left Makoto Niijima DUMBFOUNDED & at a loss for words. It was so disjointed & childish – Took some thought. But, she figured what the pink-haired girl was implying was, even if you ARE nice, some people will STILL hurt you. Which was indeed factual. There would always be cruel & malicious individuals in this world (as much as she wished she could rid the planet of them). Kamoshida was a GLARING REMINDER of that very fact. “Some people, perhaps. Not all people. And you will never meet the flies, if you too, are busy being a wasp. You know?” Pushing others away was a DEFENSE MECHANISM. It was one she had used numerous times in the past. Positive she didn’t need the help of anyone else. That she could handle it all on her own. It was in opening her heart & mind to the Phantom Thieves that she found TRUE HAPPINESS. Natsuki needed to do the same – With someone. Anyone. Walking through life alone was…MISERABLE. “I’ve been called far worse than persistent.” Makoto could sense the INSECURITY dripping off the other girl while she explained what the manga was about – Telltale sign that she feared judgement. Sort of like when she spoke to sis about anything that interested her outside of studies & law. “I see. I’m under the impression that all good literature should be written in such a manner.“ Dipping forward, she read the cover of the manga, “Parfait Girls? Do they…Bake? Do you like baking?” 

          “Your stomach just growled. It’s only natural to assume you’re hungry. Right?” Natsuki’s DEFENSIVENESS on the subject all but confirmed her suspicions. Whether by choice or not, the other girl wasn’t eating properly. (Hypocritical thought). “Why shouldn’t we? If it’s expenses, I can pay.” Deflective rambling technique was one she’d used OFTEN with her big sister – This was a…TOUCHY SUBJECT & Makoto was far from sensitive. She’d need to walk on eggshells if she wanted to delve deeper. (Why did she want to delve deeper?) “I could probably use a meal, yes. I like all forms of literature. Though, most of my time is consumed listening to educational compact-discs and studying. Sis doesn’t like when I explore…FRIVOLOUS hobbies. As for flies, I have no real opinion. They serve their purpose to the ecosystem.” Natsuki’s next words caught the brunette OFF GUARD – “Is—That a good thing?”

A thankful HICCUP IN EMOTION that didn’t need to last long before it all clicked into place for the other girl. “Busy being a wasp...” Words were whispered to herself REFLECTIVELY. The very essence of Makoto’s being had Natsuki most CURIOUS. The more they spoke, the more it felt like maybe -- JUST MAYBE -- this girl got it. This girl UNDERSTOOD IT. What it meant to be a lone. And what a gamble it was to ever even so much as DARE to be anything else. “What else have you been called?” A rarity for Natsuki to reach out. While not half as oblivious as people liked to believe, she doubted she’d EVER comprehend the sheer density of insults hurled Makoto’s way with memories of her own two ears alone. “Huh?” She... HADN’T EXPECTED THAT. No one ever seemed to believe her when she tried to talk about Parfait Girls... LITERALLY NO ONE. “You really think so? I think so, too.” It felt almost alien -- Damn near THREATENING to have Makoto lean over and read the cover. It was her favorite manga. But instinct had her equal parts PROTECTIVE & VULNERABLE. Maybe if she was a little less of either, she’d have already met more flies. Or maybe... “Do they bake?” It wasn’t a stupid question. Nor should it have been a SURPRISING question -- Given the title. But it was the sheer level of naked inquisitiveness. Again... It was just all so ALIEN. “Parfait being a type of dessert. Yes. They bake a lot. They’re always my favorite chapters. I-- I-...” Pointed canine found her lip nervously. “I do. I bake a lot, too. What about you?” 

Makoto was very much CORRECT in her assumption. And had she not been so very terrified of the ensuing inevitable backlash from her father, maybe she’d have even APPRECIATED IT. But the fact was, right now, Natsuki could not enjoy such luxuries. “I-I suppose... I’m sorry.” Apology wasn’t a hundred percent from the heart. Part of it was an attempt at DISENGAGEMENT. Further conflict only invited further chances for Makoto to crack her facade and see the ABUSED LITTLE GIRL hidden deep inside. “Its just my curfew. And Papa is kind of, umm... SLOW... when it comes to meeting new people.” She’d tried to word that as KINDLY as possible. Though in truth, it wasn’t that her father was SLOW -- Rather it was that her father was IMPOSSIBLE. There was no way he’d ever approve of Makoto. “”Hm. I’ve not met very many people who say that. Most fail to see the meaning in certain stories. Sometimes I doubt they even try.” PASTEL EYES flashed to meet ruby at the mention of a sister. Sae Niijima. Of course. That woman was every bit INFAMOUS as she was FAMOUS. “Your sister sounds...” MEAN. “Strict.” Way too familiar... “What kind of educational compact discs? Does that mean you couldn’t read Parfait Girls?” Question was intended to hold judgment. After all, Natsuki had a HABIT of dropping things her papa didn’t agree with. The only reason PARFAIT GIRLS & BAKING had survived his wrath being based entirely on the immensity of her bond with both. “Maybe it would be good if we didn’t WORRY so much about flies. And just let them be part of the ecosystem.” She hadn’t answered about the food JUST YET by design. “I think so. I don’t know. Hopefully...” Would that be enough for Makoto to discern the COMPLIMENT in her words? “I mean... I’m not being a wasp, am I?” Tilt of her head. “What if after I finish this chapter, I walk you to my favorite bakery. You can get some food. While I walk myself home?” Would that OFFSET the student council president? They’d be WALKING at least. Even if it was only halfway home.

Ann tried to be UNDERSTANDING when it came to Makoto and her overbearing, hypercontrolling HELICOPTER of a sister. A trait of compassion likely born from the trauma she and Shiho had recently endured. Some misfortunes were just… DIFFICULT… to circumvent. And try as Ann liked to feel some level of CONTROL & INFLUENCE over the safety and happiness of Makoto, the fact was… Makoto feared losing Sae’s love more than Makoto feared losing her body and her life to Kaneshiro. Be that in the real or metaphysical world. A rather FRIGHTENING PROSPECT considering she now had the power of Johanna boosting up her strength and courage. “I thought…” Small smile and a relieved exhale through her nose. Aquamarine eyes were so very THANKFUL to see Makoto with even the SLIGHTEST tug of her lips and drop of stress. “I thought you could use a second. You left for a reason, right?” Nervous laugh. The kind of hum of amusement you give when you realize that you’re FUCKED but feel an incessant need of finding it almost ENTERTAINING in how fucked up the world was around you in an effort to keep yourself from GIVING IN ENTIRELY. “These…” She held one out to Makoto, knocking shoulders gently as she rested her own spine against the brick. “Four-point-eight percent. Not the strongest of things. But I figured… Take the edge of, you know?” Little known fact about Ann: These Orange Sunrises were EXACTLY how she stomached spending extended periods of time in Kamoshida’s REVILING presence. “You don’t have to.” Pointedly she took a sip of her own drink and offered a soft hum of appeasement. “They’re fruity.” And most importantly – SWEET. Just how Ann liked things. “So about that plan… Tell me exactly why it wouldn’t work. Cause I wanna dance with you on prom night.”

          “True. If you’d followed immediately it would have been counterproductive toward me regaining my composure. Thank you for taking that into consideration. You’re more intelligent than I give you credit for.” Makoto could count ON ONE HAND the number of times she’d become so emotionally overwhelmed she’d stormed out mid-conversation – Twice with her big sister (both of which the older woman HAD NOT given her the opportunity to calm down) – Sae NEVER let her walk away mid-argument. She always needed to have the last word & get her point across. Even at her baby sister’s PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPENSE. Third time she could think of was the night she’d been verbally attacked (ironically by the same woman standing before her right now) & ran off to take care of Kaneshiro herself. DESPERATE to prove her WORTH. That would make this the fourth time in her entire life she’d allowed emotions to get the best of her. (All four being tied to her sister in some way). Sae Niijima truly was her Achilles’ heel. “Hm. That does make sense.” Lips quirked at the ends – THREAT OF A SMILE – “But, we’re under legal drinking age. What if someone finds out?” Hard swallow & hand hesitantly reached for the drink, “Fruity you say? Artificial I presume?” Not only was alcohol ILLEGAL – It was UNHEALTHY. But, the promise of ‘taking the edge off’ was too tempting to pass up, “I’ll sip on it.” Soft sigh & she finally relaxed, taking the drink into her hand & sipping at it while she rested her head upon Ann’s shoulder, “Sis really hates…THIS. She’s been particularly strict as of late. Even put a tracker on my phone. She’s unlikely to view prom as beneficial toward my future… She’ll want me home, studying ahead.” Another tiny gulp, “I want to dance with you too, Ann. I–It’s the whole reason I asked to come here tonight.”

That was one particular part of Makoto’s... UNINTENTIONALLY BLUNT lack of censorship. That Ann sometimes STRUGGLED with. The way she’d constantly call her intelligence to question a STARK REMINDER that Ann was always just a rung below that which Makoto otherwise RESPECTED. So it felt almost GOOD to be complimented so (double-edged as it may have seemed to most) and she gave a proud smile. “Glad I made the right choice.” Now all that was left to determine was whether the ALCOHOL was the right choice. “Counter question: We’re the Phantom Thieves. What if someone finds out?” Smirk continued to TUG & GROW. “I have no idea. Its just fruity.” Was Makoto really asking Ann -- The girl who binged on all the Halloween Candy -- About artificial food produce? Okay. Maybe Makoto was RIGHT to question her intelligence... “Sounds good to-- Mmh.” Soft hum. Aquamarine eyes glanced over toward her lover. And it was in that happy few seconds of silence that Ann KNEW she’d made the right choice. “Yeah, I kinda-- Shit! REALLY?!” What had started with a sigh ended with a shout -- Eyes wide. She’d not meant to pull away from the girl. She’d just been taken aback -- LITERALLY -- at the idea of Sae planting her phone. “That’s so messed up that she’d do that... I...” Nervous laughter, smirk dropping to a frown. Pang in her heart at that gulp... “I can see why it got you so... ANXIOUS... earlier...” Mind was working frantically. (A rarity for the blonde.) She just... HAD to find the loophole. There had to be one -- RIGHT? “So she’s not gonna let you even leave the house AT ALL on prom night?” Was steadily dawning on Ann why Makoto had dictated to do this at a club. With other people. Rather than somewhere more PRIVATE. Because this had never truly been about PRACTISE for prom on Makoto’s part. Oh no. This had been the CLOSEST THING TO PROM she’d hope to get. “Well, we’re gonna dance more tonight. So don’t you worry about THAT.” Another gulp of her drink and she held out her pinky. “Promise that once we go back through those doors I won’t mention PROM and I wont mention SAE.” Wording did still allow them to talk out in the alley, mind you. “As FOR prom... Will Sae stay home that night? Will there be any way to get her to LEAVE? Even just for like ten minutes?”
