Little Songbird
Victoria sat underneath the enormous marquee as the last of the wedding guests cleared off.
It was a fantastic day. Her brother Diego had gotten married.
She was exhausted. On top of having to wrestle every night, she helped out with the wedding which she insisted on because out of her three brothers, Diego was the one she was closest to so she wasn't going to miss a thing. It was hectic work, dealing with both a bridezilla as well as a groomzilla (a nickname Victoria had given Diego) as both were fussy and demanding and V was always caught in the middle, trying to appease the spouses to be. Victoria often found herself wondering if Diego and Sofia would even make it to the altar, the way they bickered over the silliest of things. It was rather alarming.
Victoria was relieved when the day had finally come. She was even more relieved when everything went smoothly, save for the bride's maids getting tipsy before the wedding started.
"Well, I couldn't expect every single thing to go smoothly today." She said to Bianca who shook her head and rolled her eyes at the bridesmaids.
"Months of hard work, stress, yelling, tears... For what? A few hours?"
Victoria quietly mused as she glided across the floor, twirling a few times until she reached the stage where a huge piano and other instruments that the wedding band played not too long ago, were standing.
She stared at the piano for a few moments before she felt a pair of muscular arms embracing her from behind.
"Aren't you a sight fer sore eyes darlin'"
She'd know that voice and thick accent anywhere. She swiftly turned around and found herself nose to nose with Jordan who was grinning at her.
"Oh my Gosh!!! You're here!!!" Victoria happily exclaimed, kissing him on the lips. "You actually made it!!"
Jordan chuckled softly. "Course I am. I promised, didn't I?"
She was absolutely thrilled he came. She didn't even care that he was late. It didn't matter. He was there. He showed up.
"Were ya about to play?" Jordan asked, nodding towards the piano. "You used to play, right?"
Victoria was stunned. She didn't think he'd remember. She herself had forgotten that she shared that bit of information with him a long time ago.
"You remember? I told you that years ago." she said, staring at him.
Jordan grinned again, letting go off her and motioning her to sit down. "I remember everything you've told me, love."
"I find that hard to believe." she playfully quipped.
"It's true. Everything comin outta ya mouth was like music to my ears." He said, winking at Victoria. "Now, play me your favorite song?"
"Did I tell you that too?" She was being sarcastic now, but Jordan answered again.
"Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. You said your mam always played it around da house and ya thought it was just a song about weather." He finished before seating himself next to her.
Victoria just stared at him in amazement.
"C'mon darlin' I've been wantin' to hear ya play since ya told me... Please?"
"Yeah... Sure I'll play..." she said, still completely taken that Jordan remembered these little details.
Suddenly, it was as if Victoria's twelve year old self had emerged. She sat up, back straightened, arms out in front of her.
Jordan was instantly entranced when her fingers danced across the keys as she played the familiar tune and began to sing.. Softly at first, that he had to listen hard to hear her voice above the sound of the piano but soon she sang loud enough that he no longer strained to listen to her.
He just sat there, his mouth slightly agape, unable to take his eyes off her. There were literal shivers going up and down his spine.
"Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean you'll know"
Victoria ended the song and looked at Jordan who wore an expression she thought was similar to someone who had just been clubbed over the head.
"So... Did you like it?"
Jordan shook his head a little as if trying rid himself of an irksome fly.
"That was bloody fantastic babe, holy shit I didn' know ya were that good!" he gushed.
Victoria blushed. "Thanks. I didn't know how much I miss playing until just now, it's been so long..."
"You're amazin', really. How're ya so good at everything ya do?"
Jordan still seemed in awe of what he just witnessed.
"Careful Mister, your heart eyes are showing."
Victoria teased, giving him a slight peck on the lips. "You look like you're about to tell me you wanna 'wife' me"
The statement seem to wrench Jordan away from his thoughts for he now looked at Victoria with raised eyebrows.
"Darlin', don't pretend we're not gunna end up there one day. I'm definitely gunna wife you." he said, smirking at her. She wasn't expecting that.
"What.. I was just- Wait... Please tell me you didn't just... Propose!?" She sputtered.
Jordan laughed.
"No, I'm not proposin' sweetheart. Not yet anyway." He took Victoria's hands in his own and placed soft kisses on them. "But as I said, I'm definitely gunna wife you... One day, my little Songbird. You're mine. Now. Always. Remember?"
She smiled and nodded at him. He was right. It was like it was written in the stars, bound to happen even though they didn't know it at first.
" Yes. Yours." she said." I love you. "
" Love you too, little Songbird. "
