1. aha! by imogen heap
jeon is constantly worried about disappointing her parents, which holds her back from doing “risky” things that she’s always wanted to try. this song would be her encouragement to do things out of her comfort zone while she’s still alive. ( “high on life, you should try it; go on while no one’s looking” ). the vibe of the song in general is perfect as well; it’s kinda creepy, so whenever i really need some inspiration, this is the first song i turn to.
2. american horror story theme song
yes… i used to be ahs trash. i stopped liking it after the 3rd season, but i’m not even gonna get into that rn. but the theme song stirs memories from different episodes that i enjoyed and the beat is perfect.
4. houdini by foster the people
( “got shackles on, my words are tied, fear can make you compromise, with the lights turned up, it’s hard to hide, sometimes I wanna disappear.” ) at times, jeonyul envies the spirits that live in the hotel because they can disappear whenever they’d like. she often feels like she’s trapped working for her parents, trapped in a society where you have to have a degree to do anything purposeful with your life– trapped in a cruel world. and honestly, jeon doesn’t think it’s that great to be alive. she’s not suicidal by any means, but she has a good grasp on the concept of death ( at least, from how she percieves it. )
5. young blood by the naked and the famous
this is basically jeonyul’s theme song; from the idea that you’re only young and naive once ( jeon is very naive ), to friendships that she’s made in the past, her ex, everything.
6. chandelier by sia
jeonyul gets jealous of the girls that come into the hotel with random men after a night of partying. they’re so carefree, so rebellious, and she wishes that she had the courage to be the same way ( to an extent ). this song sort of captures that idea.

i feel like if jeon were in a relationship, this is what it would be like for her, honestly. ugh this gives me shipping feels bye

this is another song that gives me shipping feels !!! but moreso for a past relationship of hers. some of the lyrics remind me a lot of jeon and her ex.

this song is pretty self-explanatory. but jeon is anti-social and doesn’t like parties or outings… she feels really out of place in these kind of settings. ( i picked the 2 am version because i’m sooo over the original tbh. but that version is beautiful. )

( – nods a bit, giving a small hum. ) well, store-bought cookies are just as good. and it’s the thought that counts! ( – her view flickers to the handbag that held the cookies before meeting chanmi’s gaze again, smiling slightly. ) i love your bag, by the way, may i ask where you got it?

the phone on jeon’s reception desk was finally silent, the lobby was nearly desolate, and she’d be back home in her bed within an hour. it was never too busy on a sunday night; foreign businessmen and women were normally traveling to seoul during this time, already missing their families, while domestic guests were stuck at home, craving a quick visit to the hotel with their secret lovers.
she was starting to feel anxious, fiddling with a pen as thoughts roamed to her friend’s instructor. he was so rude when he checked in, and it bothered jeon that penny had to actually interact with him on a daily basis. it was only right for her to send a spirit his way, frightening him half to death as he stumbled out of the hotel and towards his car, shaky hands fumbling with his keys for what seemed like forever before he managed to get inside.
but jeon wasn’t sure that telling penny about her ( unique ) ability would be the best thing. although they were pretty close, they hadn’t known each other long enough for her to feel completely at ease about spilling something so strange, so unbelievable. the last time she trusted someone to stick around after learning about her paranormal interactions, the spirits had more life in them than the fleeting friendship.
the next set of incoming messages made her groan, both hands cupping her face. of course she wanted to see penny, but now she had to make up a fake story, and she hated lying. her heart and mind battled with her morals, and she contemplated telling the truth once the other woman arrived. penny didn’t live far from the hotel, but maybe she could buy some more time.
( sms : hannie ) yup, i’m still here. come through and ill tell you everything!
( sms : hannie ) btw could you pleeeease pick up some take-out from that place we went to last week? i’m starving

“yup, never… kissing in public was kinda humiliating for me–” his words make her giggle, shaking her head as if to playfully say you’re a mess. taehwa was unpredictable; she never knew what would come out of his mouth next ( or better yet, if she would be prepared for what was spoken. ) but his experience paired with her lack thereof made for good conversation. “for what, were you hoping to send it to some creepy porn site and make a quick buck off of me? ‘cause if so, i want 60%.” she mimics his cheeky smile from moments before when the glare is thrown her way. “true, but i’ve never really seen you getting into those kinda things until last week… you’re a wild one!”
damn. the one time she actually goes out to a club, and she ended up doing something completely out of her character. ( but that's what she deserved for asking taehwa to take her out, craving to know if seoul's nightlife was really as great as her peers made it seem. ) she laughs sheepishly, fingers sifting through her dark, long hair. “i forgot about the kiss-- oh yeah, that… that was something you’ll never see me do again." a sly smile on her lips, she adds, "but let's not forget what you got yourself into that night, my friend."
“what’s in here that you don’t want me to read? … pft, trying to bribe me with food, hm? you know me too well. since you’re paying, i’ll let you choose the place.”
