she placed her hand in the centre of his chest, giving it a gentle tap. “i’m not sure how you sleep at night. knowing all that chaos is waiting right outside your door. not even in the privacy of our own bedrooms are we safe.” the smile playing on her lips contradicted the theatrically solemn tone of her voice.

James sat up slightly to look over at the bag. “What is it?” he asked hesitantly, as if afraid of what she might possibly have inside. As he waited for her answer, James looked her over, still wondering why she was here. “Who’s it for?”

her lips tugged upwards slightly, amusement shining bright behind those green eyes. “think of it a bit like pandora’s box.” she set the bag down by her feet and perched herself on the arm of the couch. “it could be a harmless bag filled with homemade goodies for my brother or maybe it’s an embarrassing collection of photos of every member of the fraternity in unflattering situations.. who knows.”

“mmm.” she hummed softly, her chin dipping in a nod. she lifted a brow in silent acceptance; two can play at one game. “no, you really can’t. today’s youth really is ruled by such twisted intentions.” her voice fluctuated, the added dramatics adding far more flourish then normal.

James still hadn’t slept from the night before, but considering how comfortable he was on this couch, he wasn’t planning on moving any time soon. However, his lack of sleep combined with his being still slightly tipsy had him feeling a bit flirty. Naturally, when someone walked through the front door in the middle of the morning, he immediately took the opportunity. “Hey, you! What are you doing here at this hour?” he asked with his resident smirk.

while the fraternity was always quite lively, bursting at the seams with noise and chaos and boys, it appeared to be an uncommonly quiet night. no guests littering the perfectly manicured lawn, no blaring music rattling her bones; in fact there were hardly any lights left on inside the grand house. she slipped through the front door with ease, her eyes fixed on the staircase just off to her left when he made himself know. clearly she wasn’t the only one still as wide awake as the moon herself. “i come baring gifts.” diana rattled the bag she had in her hands - a mix of baked goods and gifts from home, all affectionately complied by her mother inside.

     grin formed on the male’s lips as his gaze met the other’s, a thumb pointing over his shoulder at the table and chair that’d been upended. “it was already like that when i got here, i swear.” sure, he’d done it in a fit of rage after a phone call from his mother’s parents, but was he going to admit to that? of course not. denial was key, after all.

her emerald hues flickered between the nearly demolished scene and the impish grin flowering on his lips. “so someone just broke into your room flipped over your desk and ripped up half your notes for shits and giggles?” she nodded, pretending for only a fleeting moment that she might believe his story.

Self-defense wasn’t really Jacob’s strongest feature. “I really have the most badass twin sister in the whole universe.”

She used the tip of her fork to gesture towards her twin, struggling to hide the grin that threatened to break out. “Mhmm. I trust you. For now.” In truth, there was nothing that would cause Diana to lose any amount of trust in her brother. The loyalty coursing through her veins ran bone deep. “No one messes with us.” Her lips tugged up into a bright grin at the sound of her brothers laughter. “Yes, I am badass. And you’re my favourite brother.” Finishing off her pancake, Diana rested her head on Jacob’s shoulder with a satisfied hum or agreement.

“–Oh, hey!”  Ed exclaimed as the leash slipped right through his hands and a large, black, but seemingly friendly dog bounded forward.  Caught off balance, Ed nearly stumbled, but managed to catch his balance at the last moment.  But there was still the issue of his dog leaping at the nearest person.  “I’m sorry about him –”  Ed called as he took a few long strides to collect both the leash and his dog.  “He’s friendly, I swear.  Just…get’s a little over excited at times.”

It must have been a sight to behold. A large dog bounding towards a smaller then average girl, the animal rising to his hind legs in an excited greeting, his height and sheer size looking more then enough to knock her clean off her feet. It was more comical then anything. “Hey there big guy.” Diana dropped to her knees at the joyous barking, her fingers stroking through the dogs soft fur, her own delighted laughter tumbling from her lips. “It’s okay, really.” She glanced up at the boy with a smile. “I don’t mind at all. I love dogs.”

the idea of spending more time outside, beneath the clouds and stars and miles of salt tinted fresh air then stuck inside one lector hall or another was the most compelling offer she had received in weeks. “me too. not that you’ll find me complaining.” her laughter filled the car, her fingers coming up to brush along the curve of her lips, as if she could almost feel the joyous sound. “would you now? i’ve got a taste for the risky things in life myself so i guess we’ll just have to find out.”
