𖧧 activities for regressors who love being in nature

🪨 make your own pet rock!

find a rock, any size, shape, and color you want. i personally prefer medium circular rocks. make sure it's pretty smooth! that'll help when you pencil your design on it, or just go for it with paint! you can paint on a mouth, eyes (or use googly eyes), hair, etc. then you can display your new little friend wherever you want!

🌿 put nature on paper with texture rubbing!

gather a piece of blank (white or light colored) paper, a pencil/colored pencil/crayon, tape (optional), and something with texture from outside, like a leaf, a rock, tree bark, a flower, etc. you'll put that under the paper (tape it to the table if ya want) and gently rub the pencil/crayon over it until you can see the shape!

🖼️ capture some cutie little clouds!

sit outside/near a window and draw some clouds you see in the sky! i like to give mine silly faces :3

🚸 take a nature walk!

a nature walk is pretty much what it sounds like: a walk in nature. BUT! this time, make an effort to notice the things you see, hear, and feel. you could also write about it when you get home! what animals did you see? what was the weather like? what did you hear (cars/birds/people)? this part would be extra fun for kiddos who like writing, science, or math!

Caregiver Section

Responsibilities of a Caregiver

Being a caregiver is about providing emotional safety, consistency, affection, and structure.

1. Build Trust

Always respect boundaries.

Be consistent — show up when you say you will.

Let them know they’re safe and never judged in headspace.

2. Know Their Regression Style

Ask them about:

What age range or pet type they regress to

Triggers and comfort items

Things they love/hate during regression

Preferred names (e.g., “little one,” “puppy,” etc.)

3. Establish Clear Communication

Use “check-ins” like: “How are you feeling right now?” or “Would you like some little time?”

Have a system for when they want to regress and when they don’t (safe words, emojis, etc.)

Be able to spot non-verbal signs of distress

Emotional Support Tips

Be Gentle

Regression often stems from emotional overwhelm. Be soft-spoken, validate their feelings, and avoid raising your voice.

Give Reassurance

Say things like:

“You’re safe now.”

“It’s okay to feel little.”

“I’m proud of you.”

“I’m right here.”

Set Loving Boundaries

Gently redirect tantrums or overstimulation.

Offer choices: “Would you like juice or water?”

Always stay calm and don’t shame regressed behaviors.

Be very careful with roleplay that mimics parenting — always make sure it’s mutual and safe.

Tips for Handling Regression Crises

Sometimes regressors have meltdowns, flashbacks, or anxiety.

Crisis Dos:

Use grounding words like “You’re safe,” “Breathe with me”

Offer a familiar item (blanket, toy)

Move them to a quiet space

Dim lights or use soothing sounds

Crisis Don’ts:

Don’t force them to talk

Don’t scold or dismiss

Don’t leave them alone unless they ask

They’re not always “little” or “pet” — don’t force the dynamic.

Know Your Role

You’re not a parent or therapist.

Offer comfort, not control or discipline.

Don’t infantilize them in adult mode.

Be Trauma-Informed

Ask about triggers and avoid them.

Make sure you keep boundaries in mind.

Do NOT Purposefully trigger your little/pet. this is a major red flag and will doom you to the fate of being a person who is problematic.

make sure you're rooms all nice so you don't have to deal with a mess tomorrow morning!!

toss out any wrappers, cans, gather any dishes or plates around

toys and/or video games too!

if you haven't had dinner, make sure you do

some small snack ideas can be a yogurt, some gold fish, a granola bar, nuts, crackers, etc!

🐻self care!

this includes showering/bathing, brushing your teeth, hair, doing skincare if you do that, nd etc!

if you don't do skincare, try least washing your face, its good for you!

struggle brushing your teeth? its okay! me too! you can try lil tricks like listening to a song, watching a video, or fidgeting with something in your free hand!

don't forget to floss! nd if you struggle with that too, you can buy floss picks nd just do it in bed

after you wash up, getting into your favorite cozy pajamas is also nice, so lets do that!

all cozy n comfy? grab a stuffed animal too! you're never to old for them!

fairy lights, tv show to calm you down, whatever works best for you!

if you're still not tired or just have a bit of energy left, lets try doing an off screen activity!! for example reading, coloring, building legos, or try making some origami! thats something i did a lot!

into bed, we cant stay up to late!! you need your sleep!

if you're struggling, try counting sheep but replacing sheep with your favorite animal! or falling asleep to a tv show as background noise!

🧺 Carefully putting your sandwiches or snacks into little baggies or containers and packing them up into a big basket with a blanket tucked over it all. Don't forget to pack yourself some drinks!

🥪 Taking a nice drive or riding your bike and strolling down the rode.. all to find your favorite little spot in the shade. Maybe it's at the park, or by the pond.

🧸 Did you bring any friends, little one? You better pick out a nice place for them to sit to enjoy our picnic together!
