Fine Art Ba Hons - Newcastle University. (2010-2014) My practice stems from an appreciation of the eternal balancing act between the chaotic and the sublime; drawing a link between this on-going struggle in the world around us with my own personal quest for moral equilibrium and inner peace. This, set in a world where money and commercial viability are valued highly - achieving prominence above knowledge and thought. The work speaks of the conversational nature of art and aesthetics; its ability to prompt a questioning of our own beliefs as well as sparking a strong, direct and affective response in a world where social practices force us to keep our problems - emotions - to ourselves. I am interested in the language of ‘things.’ A constant dialogue between found and made objects and materials to achieve a reflection of my own personality, life experience and choices; where elements respond to one another and the space in which they are contained. Nothing is without purpose. Much as all drawings and poems grow out of previous drawings and poems: the re-imagining of a thought or process through the recycling of component materials, acts of appropriation and assimilation mirroring the cyclical nature of life. for more information please contact: [email protected]
