#20 YEARS LATER # AND THEY STILL TEASE EACH OTHER #LIKE AN OLD MARRIED COUPLE
I wonât give away the results of the battles, but I really want to talk about something in this episode that I think a lot of the old fans really enjoy about Ash and Mistyâs relationship and thatâs just the back and forth bantering they used to exchange in the original series. I think we all kind of missed their stubbornness and fighting. It provided a lot of entertainment, and Iâve seen a lot of people wanting to see that brought back up again, but I personally had some mixed feelings about that.Â
Namely, all of their childish behavior was as a result of them being young, stupid kids who havenât matured and gained much experience yet. Even if Ash gets a reset in age every new generation, he has developed quite a bit from a stubborn child who couldnât get over losing a match to another trainer he really respected (Ritchie back in the original series) and even moping around for a whole episode until he realized he was the one who screwed up.Â
Anyway, thereâs more to be said about his development, but the point Iâm making is that it exists. Mistyâs development also exists even though she hasnât been around in the anime for a while. We get to see most of it in the works during Pokemon Chronicles, but itâs there. She has Gyarados to prove it, and thatâs why itâs really significant that she managed to create such a deep bond with a Pokemon she previously had a terrible fear of to the point that she hated all Gyarados as a result. She can help it Mega Evolve, and thatâs probably something she would never have expected herself doing prior to Pokemon Chronicles.
So with that said, back to these kidsâ childish bantering. The writers clearly wanted to pack all the nostalgia in every single second of these last two episodes, and even included Misty and Ash going at it briefly as another reference to the old series. The part that really made me happy though was that their exchange didnât escalate into the kind of fighting where Brock has to step in and separate the two. As you can see in these screenshots, they both have their moment of pride, and what made me happy to see was Misty teased Ash but didnât take it a step further than that. They both came out of the battle happy and full of respect for each otherâs abilities and growth, and it was a really beautiful moment.

Actually, sheâs twelve. But I agree. People can be so sick!
Nope, sheâs 10.

Pokeshipping Week 2016 - November 1st - November 7th
Thank you for sending suggestions and voting! Here are the themes you chose!
Each theme can be interpreted in any way youâd like. Fanfiction, fanart, edits, gifs, AMVs, fanmixes, headcanons, analysisâbe creative! Anything youâd like to contribute with is fine as long as it fits the theme.
You can do something for each theme or choose to do just one or two. Every contribution is welcome, no matter how small!
You can go with the same thing for every theme (ie a drawing for each day of the week) or pick something different for each.
Itâs not a competition, so please donât feel that your art, writing, editing skills etc. arenât good enough to participate! The point is to have fun and make pokeshipping things.
Tag your contributions as âPokeshipping Weekâ when you post them, so I can see them and reblog them here! Remember to put it among the first five tags, and please use that exact tag so I wonât have to follow 15 different variations ;)
(âŠI feel that Day 5 might warrant a warning: I guess I canât stop you from going with the less, huh, kid-friendly interpretation of âsleeping togetherâ if you wish, but I keep this blog SFW, so I wonât reblog anything explicit. The same of course goes for the other days.)
Reblog to spread the word! â„
EDIT: since several people were unhappy with the poll results, hereâs an extra set of themes (the next top 7) to choose from if you wish. As you can see, theyâre not numbered, so you can replace any of the themes from list 1 with any from list 2 regardless of the order.
Please spread this version of the post too!
