Rebuild of Pocket Monsters: The Animation

Do you have any interest in adapting later elements of the series into Shudo-style Rebulding? For example Serena as a childhood friend, Professor Oak's relative in the Alola region, or other such elements. I am certainly curious about this project as someone who does find the Shudo ideas worth exploring myself, if in watered down elements (I'd rather for example either remove the 'Ash can marry as of Eps 1' bits or up Ash's age if I keep it to reduce the squick)

Some elements of the later series will make it into the series naturally as it adapts the later games. However, Serena would have little to do with Satoshi as the arcs are intended to follow the passage of time, so Serena would likely not be born yet during Satoshi’s childhood, the age difference would be too great. I’d probably just reference her anime crush by having her be a fan of Satoshi’s exploits just like a real life celebrity crush. Furthermore, Satoshi wouldn’t appear (at least in a main character capacity), in an XY arc, so tying the characters together would be unnecessary bloat plot-wise.

Hey i was wondering, why are you using 'Sayako' as a name for Leaf when she already has a canon japanese name, 'Midori'?

English: Thank you for taking interest in my manga! Actually, Midori is not her name in Japanese, it’s Blue, spelt out in English using katakana. If the other two are called Red and Green after the title of “Red and Green”, then naturally the girl who never made it into the game would have been named Blue, after the third version “Blue”, right? But since she never appeared as an NPC before LGPE, in actuality, Blue being her canon name in the games is only a recent thing. When the Pokemon anime first came out, the characters Red and Green did not have official names in the games, but the authors of various derivative works chose their own names for them just like the player would in the games. Of course, OLM chose the names “Satoshi” and “Shigeru” for the “Red and Green” characters that appear in the anime. This manga’s theme and purpose is “what would it be like if this manga’s story replaced the anime during Generation ___” , so thinking like a person from the current era while writing this manga would render that meaningless. That’s why I named the character based on “Blue”, “Sayako”. Because as a person from 1997, the official names of the Player and Rival character would have been unknown to me. Well, her name is not based on famous game designers like the other two, but I think her name goes along nicely with their names.  日本語：私の漫画を気になってありがとうございます! 実は、ミドリじゃなくて、カタカナで英語を使っている名はブルーですよ。 外の二人のレッドとグリーンと言うキャラの名は赤緑のタイトルをベースしたら、でてこない女の子の名は3つ目バージョン青をベースするのが当たり前ことでしょうか。しかし、「ピカブイ」前のゲームに彼女はNPCとしてゲームでてこなかったので、ゲーム版でのブルーと言う実名は本当に最近ばかりでした。アニポケの最初時に、赤緑のゲームの中にレッドとグリーンは実名がありませんでしたが、色々な派生的な作品の作者はプレイヤのように好きな名前を選んでいました。もちろんアニポケの方にもOLMは「サトシ」と「シゲル」を自由に選んでいました。この漫画のテーマは「何々世代の頃でアニポケ代わりにこのストーリーを放送したらどうなったかな」って目的なので、令和時代の人間のように考えながら作ると駄目だと思います。それでブルーをベースしたキャラをサヤコと名付けました。なぜなら1997年の人間としてゲーム版の主人公とライバルの実名はただ知らないことです。まあ、「サヤコ」と言う名は有名なゲームプランナーをベースしなかったけど外の二人の名とよく似合うと思います。

It’s almost that time of year again!

The Pokéshipping fandom’s annual grand holiday - Pokeshipping Week - is a little over two months away! It’ll be running through November 1st - 7th, 2019.

Although Kate at the @pokeshipping blog has done an incredible job hosting PW in the past, she is unfortunately unable to do so this year. In her stead, the Pokeshipping Discord staff – @lightningenergy, @zdbztumble, @magedragonfire, and @pocketmonstersrimeiku – will be helming this ship. 

As is usual, we’ll be celebrating with a week of themes to get your creativity running. Each day will feature a theme (such as battling, fishing, alternate universes, etc) for our participants to interpret through whatever fanwork medium they like - whether that’s fiction, art, analysis, edits, AMVs, you name it! You can choose to go the whole week, or just a theme or two as you like. Any contribution, big or small, and regardless of skill, is welcome! We’re all here to have fun and celebrate these twerps together. 😀

Every eligible work created and posted to Tumblr or Twitter will be reblogged here to spotlight them. Plus, new this year, we’ll be hosting an official Pokeshipping Week collection on AO3. We’ll be posting more information about these options once we’ve got our themes sorted out, so stay tuned! 

And speaking of getting those themes sorted - we need your help for that!

Starting September 1st through the 5th, we’ll be accepting theme suggestions for the week on this blog, and we’ll be opening up the floor to you to vote on our final themes from September 8th to the 14th. More details about this process will be posted closer to those dates! However, just as a heads up, not every theme suggestion submitted this time around will make it through to the final list. For example, we’re going to consolidate any themes that are duplicates or very close to one another, we’ll be taking off anything that’s a repeat from a previous year, and we won’t accept anything that’s negative towards other characters.

Please stay tuned for more information! Again, look for theme suggestions opening up on September 1st!

I’ve mentioned before that @pocketmonstersrimeiku and I have joked about Pokemon and Fate/Stay Night over on Discord; that’s included drawing parallels between certain characters. Specifically, Misty and Rin sharing rather obvious tsundere traits. And, if you plug Misty in as Rin, there’s only one person who Shirou can be…

(Yes, I am aware that Shirou and Ash have disparate personalities. And yes, I am aware of the nature of Shirou and Saber’s relationship and what it would mean here if you took things literally. It’s a gag - roll with it.)

Great work! If anything, the Saber/Pikachu parallel makes it even *funnier* taking in the romantic context of their Master/Servant relationship from the Fate route and comparing it to the Satoshi/Pikachu bond. I can already imagine Archer-Red trying to kill Shirou-Satoshi by not warning him about Rin-Kasumi’s terrible cooking.

What would Sayako's English name be? And is there any chance we'll see her in her game counterpart's clothes from Let's Go?

I haven’t thought of English names since I won’t be using them. But if she did have an English name, it should ideally go with names like “Ash” and “Gary”. Short, but with a cute charm that fits her.Blue’s Let’s Go outfit is super adorable. I’ll probably make it one of her outfits, albeit an adult version of it, for Generation VII.

Hello! Would you mind explaining to me Blue's relationship with Ash and how the two interact?

Sayako has been childhood friends with Satoshi since she was 5, and is the “older sister” type for the hometown trio. In particular, in defense of Satoshi who got bullied by Shigeru, being a hardcore tomboy, she was the one that “bullied” Shigeru back in his stead. How Satoshi and Sayako bonded during their first encounter is going to be withheld until I release the comic, but it’s definitely a special friendship.She’s somewhat of a prankster, flirty, and is known for her antics and trollish personality, which heavily influenced Satoshi’s traits that were prevalent in the Original Series of the anime (which are kept in this manga retool, because it’s the superior version of his personality). Since she’s a year older than Satoshi, she started her journey earlier than the other two kids, and by the time they meet again, she’ll have this perception that Satoshi’s the same kid that needed her protection, not acknowledging he’s slowly growing up and becoming stronger until the end of her debut chapter.For their general interactions, since Sayako is more than a bit of a troll (she’ll come off as a cloudcuckoolanderto those who don’t know her), Satoshi will often come across as the straight man in what can only be described as a manzai routine. Sayako will always be able to notice when Satoshi is having an off-day, likewise Satoshi knows what she’s like when she gets serious and doesn’t dare underestimate her.

Charm Up!

Now we’re up to Diamond and Pearl, where our Hero of Knowledge Kouki holds a plushie of our Ultimate Waifu Hero of Benevolence Hikari. Unfortunately for him, despite being the first female protagonist, Hikari is probably the most dense out of all of them so far.

Next up on the Valentine’s Day card list (even though it’s already over, heh) is Haruka getting messy over the chocolatey likeliness of Yuuki, the protagonist of Rebuild of Pocket Monsters: Advanced Generation. I also drew an entirely new logo for the AG portion of Rebuild. Next up, we skip Battle Frontier (Satoshi already got his girls’ cards ;P), and move onto Diamond and Pearl, where our protagonist’s admirer is... a boy?! Oh, the protagonist is a girl! Golden Sun and Silver Moon!

Valentine’s Day is over, but I’m still going to keep at these artworks until the end of the month, hopefully for every Rebuild of Pocket Monsters arc. So here’s Akane and Marina with their mischievous Kenta plushies. Don’t tear each other’s heads off, girls! As you can see, I de-aged Akane to typical travel companion age (10). The color scheme for Marina was pulled and altered from several Kris counterparts, with the crystal-colored jacket being based on Sugimori concept art for Marina of the Raikou! Legend of Thunder anime special. I also gave her goggles, with her being sort of an explorer in Rebuild. Next is Rebuild of Pocket Monsters: Advanced Generation. Valentine’s Day is approaching and I wanted to draw corresponding artwork for the heroines of Rebuild of Pocket Monsters. Have a pouting Kasumi and a winking Sayako (”anime” counterpart of  Blue/Leaf), both holding small Satoshi plushies (only ¥1500 at your nearest Friendly Shop/Pokemart! :P). More coming soon for the "heroines” of the other arcs (technically some are boys lol). Hopefully I can get through all of them by the time Valentine’s Day hits. I just found out about the novelizations and then found your project. I'm very interested in all these developments, like the counterpart for Blue/Leaf and continuing the tone of the novelizations!! Are you thinking of fleshing out the other two kids who left Pallet at the same time?

Thanks for taking interest in my project! I’ve postponed the release due to work-related health complications, but the first chapter should be out pretty soon.I’ve gotten questions about the two other kids before. Interestingly, since I opted to go with Yellow version’s take on the Green-rival character getting an Eevee as a Starter, there are actually three other kids in my version. The people who asked me that question though, brought up a good point about it being more of a waste than the original anime, with three kids who actually got the standard starters being quitters and never shown, as opposed to just two.With the protagonists of Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee being a thing now (I haven’t purchased the games myself yet, though), I’ve been thinking about doing something about *them* being the three egnimas in a future Gen VII arc. Obviously they’d be older than they are portrayed in LGPE. But at this point, it’s still just brainstorming. The first arc of the series, at this point, is already completely planned out and unfortunately doesn’t feature those other kids who left at the same time as Satoshi and Shigeru. But the topic is still at the back of my head, since when it was brought to my attention, I did realize that was one of the many wasted potentials of the anime series. (But on the other hand, the novelizations did stress that being a trainer was a difficult task not to be taken lightly, and that quitting was common!)

Why Sabina in the posters ? Isn't she is going to be that important in plot of re: pocket monsters ? And she look so like her pocket monsters special counterpart

Yes, she will be important, especially during my adaptation of Silph Co. She could also technically be considered the special third Gym Leader companion. She’s my favorite Gen I Gym Leader in both the games and the anime is partially the reason why I extended her role.
