Can't believe it has been 5 months already. Because he came to us a little early, the doctors say his "corrected" age is 3 months. Developmentally, he is a little between the two. This little guy is happy, hungry, and always snuggly. Can't wait to see what comes next. (at Conroe, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoCdO1LA4tR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

You know you have been out of commission for a long time when you find a wasp nest in your tool bag. This fertility/pregnancy journey has been a real challenge to let go and let people help. For a little over 2 years now, I have been on and off modified bed rest for fertility purposes. Then during my pregnancy, same went after multiple hemmorhages. Finally, I spent the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy hanging out in a hospital bed trying not to move enough to cause any further rupture to my membrane. The last time I used this bag, I was in my first trimester and packed this to help a friend with a leaky washing machine. I was so tired when I got home I left this in the mudroom and didn't even throw away the bottle of milk I spent way too much money on while I was out. One thing led to another and the many people that helped my husband prepare the house for our baby without me put this up and out of sight. I'm grateful that me and Felix are healthy enough that I had a reason to go looking for my trusty bag again and get back to being handy and helpful once more. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkRypQaArUh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Describing gender as a spectrum implies that there are people whose gender cannot correctly be displayed in digital media because it falls outside the RGB colour gamut.

Angry mothers raise daughters fierce enough to fight wolves. I am not worried for her in the least.

@onenicebugperday can you explain this?
Yep, it’s a rolling swarm of caterpillars. They just happen to move more efficiently that way! A rolling swarm can move a lot faster than individuals can on their own. Using other moving caterpillars to walk on is sort of like those moving walkways we use at airports :)
I wanted to call this a Megapillar or a Megerpillar, but that suddenly got me concerned about the actual etymology of caterpillar. I thought maybe something to do with *cater* (the verb about feeding things) + *pillar* (a sort of column) and I thought, “that’s perfect! A tube that feeds/eats! makes total sense!” But then I took a preliminary look at the etymology of the whole word and was not disappointed (although proven very wrong):
caterpillar (n.)
"larva of a butterfly or moth," mid-15c., catyrpel, probably altered (by association with Middle English piller "plunderer;" see pillage (n.)) from Old North French caterpilose "caterpillar" (Old French chatepelose), literally "shaggy cat" (probably in reference to the "wooly-bear" variety), from Late Latin catta pilosa, from catta "cat" (see cat (n.)) + pilosus "hairy, shaggy, covered with hair," from pilus "hair" (see pile (n.3)).
Compare also French chenille "caterpillar," literally "little dog." A Swiss German name for it is teufelskatz "devil's cat." "The caterpillar has in many idioms received the name of other animals" [Kitchin, who cites also Milanese cagnon "little dog," Italian dialectal gattola "little cat," Kentish hop-dog, hop-cat, Portuguese lagarta "lizard."] Compare also American English wooly-bear for the hairy variety. An Old English name for it was cawelworm "cole-worm." Caterpillar tractor, one which travels on endless steel belts, is from 1908, so called from its way of moving.”

so, still not decided on the proper way of referring to this MEGA-PILLAR but if anyone interested in either entomology or etymology has an idea about how best to do this - I’m very curious.
I set up a nice window perch for the cats. Was trying to figure out how they were making such a mess up there :p (at Grand Central Park by Johnson Development) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7n20tnAmGN/?igshid=i5uy9j51g4ff
