Stylized Eye with Tears ~ Unknown Location (Unknown Year) — Expressive Makeup Portrait
In 1974, 29 year old news anchor Christine Chubbuck announced to viewers that they were about to see “a television first…exclusive coverage of an attempted suicide.” She then produced a pistol and shot herself live on air. She was the first person to take their own life on live TV.
Her story is often remembered as a turning point—raising difficult questions about media, mental health, and how we respond to people in distress.
It’s a reminder that behind every broadcast is a human being—and that compassion and awareness matter.
