Solving problems using astrology
Sometimes if you are having trouble in particular aspects of your life, your birth chart can help you figure out either what is going on or what you can do to fix it. Below is a list of some common issues and what houses to look in to try to solve them. You may also want to check where the planetary ruler of the sign on the cusp of the house is.
Self-image issues? Look to the 1st house
Self-worth issues? Look to the 2nd house
Communication issues? Look to the 3rd house
Family difficulties? Look to the 4th house
Creative blocks? Look to the 5th house
Work or health issues? Look to the 6th house
Relationship troubles? Look to the 7th house
Concerns regarding sex or death? Look to the 8th house
Personal belief system confusion? Look to the 9th house
Career or reputation issues? Look to the 10th house
Friendship troubles? Look to the 11th house
Nightmares or spirituality issues? Look to the 12th house
You may want to check the placements of Saturn and Chiron, as they represent issues that we will suffer from but also learn from.
You could also use planets to analyze your problems! Keep in mind that many houses, planets, and signs can rule similar energies. Remember to check aspects when considering planets!
Issues understanding who you are and who you want to be? Look to the sun.
Emotional issues, or attempting to understand your own cycles? Look to the moon. Communication, learning, or logic issues? Look to Mercury.
Pleasure, social, or beauty issues? Look to Venus.
Energy, motivation, or aggression issues? Look to Mars.
Travel, philosophical, or inner growth issues? Look to Jupiter.
Struggling with your reality, tradition, endurance, or your own limitations? Look to Saturn.
Individuality and creativity issues, or plagued by sudden changes/inconsistency? Look to Uranus.
Spiritual, imagination, deception, addiction issues or general confusion/haziness about something? Look to Neptune.
Have fears or obsessions, or personal transformation issues? Look to Pluto.
Trying to heal an old wound or help others? Look to Chiron.
And, as requested, solving problems using signs in astrology! This is a little bit of a different perspective on personal issues, since houses areas of life and planets are energy, but signs are how we express ourselves. I’ll give a few adjectives, a baseline for where you should start within each sign, but what you should be focusing on is the question “am I too much like this sign or am I not enough like this sign?” If you see a sign that doesn’t have any planets in it, study the house that it is in and find where the planet that rules the sign lays in your chart, and what aspects that planet makes. mine
Too impulsive, bold, independent? Or too cautious and dependent? Look to Aries.
Too stubborn, materialistic, or self-indulging? Or are you easily persuaded and struggling to enjoy life? Look to Taurus.
Too indecisive, superficial, or scatter-brained? Or too organized and blunt? Look to Gemini.
Too moody, self-pitying, or clingy? Or too detached and out of tune with your emotions? Look to Cancer.
Too self-centered, domineering, or melodramatic? Or too passive and modest? Look to Leo.
Too critical, work too much, or are a perfectionist? Or are you careless and impractical? Look to Virgo.
Too unreliable, idealistic, a people-pleaser who avoids conflict? Or are you argumentative and inflexible? Look to Libra.
Too manipulative, secretive, or intense? Or are you apathetic and tactless? Look to Scorpio.
Too honest, irresponsible, or judgemental? Or are you totally unconcerned with big ideas and down-to-earth? Look to Sagittarius.
Too pessimistic, authoritative, or unimaginative? Or are you an overly-optimistic dreamer with no self-control? Look to Capricorn.
Too rebellious, aloof, or unpredictable? Or too traditional and hate change? Look to Aquarius.
Too gullible, fearful, or prone to escapism? Or too skeptical and gutsy? Look to Pisces.

I personally love to take class notes on computer because I can input way more information than I can with written notes. And the one and only application I use is Notability, so here are my reasons why I stick to this app.
It’s available on macbook, iPad, and iPhone. This is extremely important as it can sync my notes to all the devices, and I can edit on all of them. I usually import my readings, class notes, PowerPoint slides (basically everything) so I can read all my class materials whenever I need them.
It has a really good organization. I use “divider” to separate my courses, and then under dividers there are subjects which I either organize them by classes (week 1, 2 and so on) or by topics. So basically in each subject I will have all the materials related to that particular class or topic.
Your class notes can be exported as pdfs.
And of course, three are still basic functions that Microsoft Word has, like bullet points, numbering, bold, italics, underline and so on.
Most importantly, you can record your lecture here and it can sync your typing notes along with your audio. That is super useful when you’re unclear with a particular concept on your notes. You can just directly find the time that your professor talks about that concept in your recording.
Generally, it is really user-friendly and simple at the same time. It has all the functions you need in taking notes and being organized. It does cost a bit but I think it is worth the money.

STUDY HABITS:
Writing a side post on studying efficiently – These are the things that I do, at least, to make sure I keep my GPA up and workload under control.
UChicago gives a ridiculous amount of homework per week (ie, fall quarter this year I was spending 15 hours on homework in an econ class, 20 hours on a CS class, 5 on math, and 2 on engineering = 42 hours of homework, in addition to going to class (12 hours), working for 10 hours a week, and orchestra rehearsal (4 hours)), and these habits absolutely SAVED me.
Here we go:
1) Read/skim last class’ notes before this class.
This one seems to surprise people but it is insanely effective in cementing material in your head and learning efficiently in the classroom. I started doing this because I would forget what we learned last class – and found that with two-three extra minutes (speed reading) I could follow lectures a whole lot better.
This allows me to retain notes better too – I normally don’t have to look at them again until when I’m studying for exams.
2) Take advantage of audiobooks and other online resources.
-Audiobooks: Here, we take a sequence of humanities classes and a sequence of social science classes. This is around 100 pages of reading every class (~2 nights to read) very difficult stuff (Marx, Foucault, De Beauvoir, etc.). I’m not a fast reader so I only get time to read it around once (and then I always fall asleep reading so that doesn’t help). Listen to the audiobook version. Seriously. Why? Because then you can get readings done while you are brushing your teeth, eating, exercising, walking to class, riding the bus, etc. A lot of people don’t finish the readings but are really good at grasping the structure of the argument. If you can combine both, you will be good to go.
-Videos: I learn math best through videos. Short concise walkthroughs help you condense important information.
-Other people’s flashcards Chances are, the material you are studying or the textbook is not one of a kind. If you are lucky, someone else would have made study materials (on sites like quizlet) that you can borrow.
-Textbook website: Sometimes textbooks have outlines and practice problems and visuals. Use them!
3) DO NOT RECOPY SHIT
Every rendition of notes that you produce should be different from the last. Straight-copying is a huge time-waster. Unless you’re one of those people who remember exactly what they write down (I’m not and I’ve met very few people who are), this is so inefficient. You process information much faster than you write. Why are you burning excess brain functionality on writing something that you don’t need to turn in?
That’s not to say don’t write. I like to go through my notes and condense them into an outline using short key words to remind me of important ideas.
But, to the people who are making pretty, colorful, and comprehensive notes–where are you getting the time? I normally assume that you just write that beautifully or are doing it in class to keep awake (and even in class, shouldn’t you be paying attention?)– but if that is a study method…
4) Take advantage of office hours. Or if you don’t have them, make your own office hours by requesting them from your teacher (even if they decline, you will still look like a hard-worker).
Go in with questions to ask your teacher/TA. Saves you so much time going about a problem on your homework completely wrong. If you are ill-prepared (been there, done that), here are good “questions” to get your teacher to divulge information: - “Can you explain the intuition behind ….” - “I’m a little stuck on this problem. Can you recommend a good approach to get me started?” - “I didn’t quite understand the material that this problem is written on when we went over it in class. Do you have a textbook reference or a good resource for me to go over the material?” <– huge time saver, because flipping through a 300 page book not knowing what you are looking for is the absolute worst.
5) Prioritize
I like to block off specific hours to do specific things, but the most important part of that, is that you do not sit down without a clear idea of what you need to get done.
I prioritize by 1) how much brainpower a task requires (studying takes the most, then essaying brainstorming, then problem sets “solving”, then essay writing, then problem set write ups*, etc.) 2) Their deadline 3) When I am the most productive.
*I split homework into ‘solving’ and ‘writing up’. I know that I am sharpest during the morning/ early afternoon, so I save the most difficult/thinking intensive solving part then, and then actually type/write up my answers when I’m less functional.
Hope this helps! Let me know what works for you/ if you have any good ones to share.
I thought I’d make a little guide :) These are just some of the ways I’ve learned how to study a particularly difficult subject. Let me know how you usually study a difficult subject, I need some new ideas!

It’s alright, we have all been there. We have all experienced the dreadful moments when we just really don’t want to work and would like to lie in bed instead. Here are some tips that can help you to get motivated and stay away from your bed:
Break down your tasks. Try to just force yourself to sit down with your laptop or pen and papers, and write down all the things you have to do. This can make you realise what you actually have to do, instead of just constantly telling yourself “I have tons to do help” without clearly knowing what’s your direction.
Next, focus on progress. Focus on the effort and time you spent on the tasks instead of the result first. Time and effort is something you can actually control, and remember to reward yourself for that.
Try to do easier tasks first. If you are not motivated at all, there is no point to read a huge chunk of information you probably cannot understand, or do an extremely difficult math paper that you won’t be able to do anyway. In this situation, the last thing you would want to do is to make yourself feel frustrated. Instead try to make yourself accomplished by completing little and easy tasks first. You will eventually be able to get back on track.
Find your peers to work with you. Having someone beside you to motivate you and to work together makes the whole thing less boring and tedious, and if studying and interacting with friends is actually an effective learning strategy for you, this method works even better.
Stop waiting until you have sufficient information to do something. That is never going to work. This will just going to be your excuse to delay and procrastinate. Try to start working on what you have instead, you will find completing the task so much easier later on.
Just start working. Tell yourself that you will just type one sentence, or solve one problem and you can take a rest. This way you will, at least, feel less guilty since you did work on something that day, but you may also find the motivation to continue working.
That being said, it’s definitely normal that we have days when we are just less productive, after all we are all humans and we do need breaks. Just make sure you have the right balance. Good luck and stay motivated! x
