Opening monologue from “The Flame”
Insane? Or not. All I know is that is the best way I could be. I’ve been called insane, even though I’m the sanest person I’ve ever met. No one is saner than I. Well, maybe a few. But we’re not here to talk about them right now. We’re here to talk about me.
You may wonder what, and you are right to do so. You see, I’m sane because I’m living by my rules; they’re insane because they’re not. Rules are important in a society. Without them, there is no such thing as order. In a society, things are supposed to be in order. Yet, they are not. Not because the rules aren’t followed, but because you are a target even by following them. The ones implementing them are putting a target on the back of whomever they want. Because we’re not alone. And we’ll never be. Or that’s what they want us to think.
As I said, I live by my own rules; which are not the absence of the ones made by them, but the loophole I found in every single one. This way I fool myself into thinking that I’m not being controlled, while I am. Everyone has been for the past few decades. Or at least that is what we are told. They make us take pills and go to monthly checkups. And, yet, we don’t know why.
But I stopped taking my pills. And I stopped listening to their propaganda. Just because they want to make me one of theirs doesn’t mean that I will be one. I fought my entire life to be free, just to find out that freedom is not an option. We learn from history how many have got freedom and, yet, there is none who hasn’t been concurred by something or someone else.
We are not a country under some dictatorship, but a whole planet. After they managed to freeze a substantial position of earth during The Flame, a small precent of population from each nation survived. And by that, I mean 6 kids from each country. And now you are wondering why not world leaders. That’s because they were killed right before The Flame began. Everything was caught on fire and everyone was trying to survive. There were a few that did. They made an underground bunker in Finland and because it was deep enough, most of them survived.
They didn’t call themselves ‘survivors’ or ‘fighters’, but ‘humans’, because they were still humans for a short time. The people that made the rules are calling them ‘things’, but mostly they are known as ‘freaks’. And what made them be called that is the fact that when the stepped foot onto the surface, even if it had been 5 years since The Flame, most of them transformed. They got powers. Not like x-ray vision or flying, but abilities like controlling the elements. What they or any of us knew was the fact that there are 4 elements. We grew up knowing just the usual, not so interesting ones, and here I’m talking about water, fire, earth, and wind. Those are the ones we are told about, but there are more. People can control minerals, plants, particles, light. They got infinite possibilities.
But, even with their powers, there was nothing to do about entering The Glacier. They were not let in, to live with people like me, people without powers. And that wasn’t because of the powers, but because there were 1300 people in The Glacier and only around 1000 were kids, most of them under 12; easy to be maintained under control. And, even tho they were living in the year 4129, the adults made sure that the technology that was invented and discovered over the years wasn’t going to get in the hands of them. The ‘freaks’ got to the borders of The Glacier eventually, but Salazar made sure they were never to get in. the powered people found themselves living in camps in what used to represent the Nordic countries. Salazar was making sure that all kids forgot life before him, he brainwashed them and made sure that they will follow his rules.
It's been 235 years since the whole thing started. Salazar is still alive –he found a way to be immortal, or better say he created one- and most of the people are under his control. He is seen as a god, even ‘tho his existence is one of the biggest lies that were created by humans. The ‘freaks’ also thrived in the outside world. They got the chance to remember what was, and they had been trying for the past 50 years or so to fight Salazar and his brainwashed puppets. They didn’t succeed until now. But tonight, they broke into the Glacier, and they retrieved the Earth to the children that survived.
So, this is the beginning of one my unfinished texts. Basically I never got over the 4 chapter. I am actually wondering if I should continue it.
Should I continue writing The Flame?
