You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)
The parking attendant paused by the double-length bay. Intended for mobile homes and cars with trailers, it was currently occupied by a sleeping dragon.
No parts of it extended beyond the lines, and the paper ticket was clearly displayed, impaled on a horn.
The parking attendant moved on.
I was going to just queue it for later but then it stuck in my brain, and I decided to make it everyone's problem
World historical loser

the mythbusters once tested "herding cats" and at one point they brought in a proper trained herding dog and the poor dogs face when the first cat responds to his herding with swipes and aggression is to look at her human and go š° the sheep is broken?? what do i do boss??

No IDs, but these tags got me in a huff:
So ok look. The point is not the flared leg by itself. These cannot be yoga pants. These are, and you have to understand this if you are too young to have worn them, BLUE JEANS. And this was the last years before all jeans were 70% spandex.
They were denim, and they weren't bell bottoms. They hung loose from the knee in a way that would make a wizard envious. We all walked around like we were wearing hakama. And they dragged on the ground. That was important. Ragged cuffs. If your jeans weren't so long that they had ratty cuffs, they were embarrassingly short.
And the thing about denim is that it's a twill weave and it's cotton. So not only does it hold a lot of water, it wicks. Walking around in these suckers on a wet day could get you wet to the knees even if you never stepped in a puddle.
Then you'd go inside and take off your shoes and try to avoid letting your freezing, wet, filthy pant legs touch your skin.
Yoga pants. Hmf.
people in cold climates would have a tide line of white marks around their knees (if they were normal height) in the winter.
From wicking up road salt.
The visceral memory of that time is something that never leaves you. Everyone's jeans were many inches higher in the back than the front because you kept stepping on the hem and ripping it off. Your lower legs were so very cold. Every new pair of jeans literally enveloped your entire foot, they were so so long re: leg-to-waist ratio. Walking on a rainy day was a legitimate workout. You have no idea.
Dumbest shit ever just happened to-- it didn't happen to me, I shouldn't be using passive language here. I just did the dumbest shit ever

2. Realize you forgot to smell the candle beforehand to see if you'll like it
3. Bring lit candle directly to your nose to smell it

Genuinely just placed my third Hobbii order in four weeks, for SO MUCH YARN and I feel like this is something I need to hide from my parents or some shit.
Firstly I was frustrated and told a friend that there were so many projects I want to make but it didn't feel like an appropriate time to buy all that yarn I need - also very expensive. During the conversation I showed him a cross stitch pattern I found on Pinterest and suggested I could make that as a crocheted blanket and he said that if I made him that blanket he'd pay for the materials and I could get some for myself in the same order.
Now I chose Amigo XL for his blanket and the black was out of stock, so I got what I could to get started and soon got kind of stuck because I need the black now. I did go to the nearest physical Hobbii store but they were also out of Black Amigo XL. It's back in stock and half price- awesome!
However, in the meantime I'd forgotten two colours of the cotton yarn I'd wanted for my self in that same first order. So I ordered some more cotton yarn for another project that'll need the same type of yarn - second order - it all fits together, and thankfully I haven't started 1001 projects straight away. And you know what? I forgot one colour of the cotton again.
I do have another cotton blanket I'm working on, so the others can wait, I suppose. I do have a bit of a storage issue now, though.
My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
