Poison City is thrilled to introduce Fancy Weapon; a new Melbourne-based group featuring four musicians that have all spent decades in the rock n roll game & continue to leave indelible marks across the underground music landscape. 

An unlikely band name and a most unlikely band. Fancy Weapon bring together a cross-generational bunch of Melbourne music perennials - Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque, Bleak Squad), Joel Silbersher (GOD, Hoss) and Claire Birchall (Smoked Salmon, Paper Planes) - joined by recent transplant Guy Maddison (Mudhoney bassist), to make a singular brand of minimalist, incandescent guitar-heavy rock music, both timeless and refreshing in the current context. Bleak Squad are a new four-piece comprised of Australian art-rock royalty – co-authors of some of the most critically-acclaimed antipodean music of the last 40 years. Featuring Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque) Mick Harvey (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, The Birthday Party), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Marty Brown (Art of Fighting), “supergroup” is an embarrassing word. “Supernatural” might be more apt. Moon Rituals is the synth-pop solo project of Sarah Hardiman (LOU, Brick Head, ex-DEAF WISH) in collaboration with Mikey Young (The Green Child, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control). Written and recorded between 2019-2023 by Sarah at home, Mikey then worked on the songs in his studio in Rye, inviting The Green Child members Shaun Gionis on drums and Raven Mahon on sax, shifting the sound to a more upbeat, full band dynamic. From these sessions came the infectious, dreamy single ‘Aura’ in 2020 which received high rotation across community radio as well as featuring on the Club Seven 7" series (I Heard A Whisper). California-raised, Melbourne-based musician, producer, and musical curator Michael Beach proudly announces his fifth LP, 'Big Black Plume', out Friday 25 July via independent labels Poison City and Goner Records! On Big Black Plume, Beach revels in the vitalising power of connection in an often hostile world. “I was wrestling with the beauty and intensity of the natural world and coming to grips with the human destruction of it,” says Beach.  “I have an overwhelming sense that humans will come and go, and the world that we depend on will outlast us." Big Black Plume features contributions from a murderers' row of talent, building on Beach's network from over 20 years of touring, engineering and production work (across Melbourne, San Francisco, and Los Angeles), and work in independent touring venues.

Produced by Beach and Gareth Liddiard (Tropical F*ck Storm, The Drones), the record includes Dirty Three guitarist Mick Turner, The Necks bassist Lloyd Swanton, aforementioned Tropical Fuck Storm / The Drones members Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin, folk artist Leah Senior, Oren Ambarchi collaborator Joe Talia, and Comets on Fire’s Utrillo Kushner, among others.
