I feel this on a deep and personal level and I know you're making a joke but I do also want to take this opportunity to pass along the biggest small piece of advice I've ever gotten: You don't have to explain every step of how something happened unless something unusual/important happens along the way.

You can simply cut to the next scene when she's at the location, without explaining how she got there. People will fill that in. Now, if something important happens in the car on the way there, then sure, mention it. But if she's just driving? Nah. Delete that sentence, pop in a scene break, and keep writing.

we were talking about the criminalization of homosexuality in class and my professor (who as far as i know isn't in any way queer) said something i quite enjoyed in that. well the exchange was more or less this: a student asked a question (doesn't really matter what exactly just know that i was rolling my eyes So hard internally) and the prof looked at the student and was like (i'm paraphrasing here this conversation was not in english) Do you have any queer friends? and the student went Uhhhh in a manner that made it clear the answer was probably no and the prof said Actually statistically speaking you most likely do. If I had to divide this room into two groups the way to do it would not be "people with queer friends" and "people without queer friends" it would be "people whose queer friends are out to them" and "people whose queer friends aren't". And if you're in the latter category you should consider why that is--if maybe your behavior is indicating to the queer people around you that you're not safe to come out to. to come back to your question if you really want to know about queerness there's a very simple way of doing that: you make yourself a person queer people feel comfortable talking to about their experiences and then you fucking listen to them when they do (the fuck is not paraphrased) (there was a fuck involved) (frankly king shit)

So I was teaching 8th Grade at an extremely rural school in the Spring of 2001. (We are talking I would stand in the door of the computer lab and watch goats graze across the two lane road, cattle and crops for miles rural.)

I was really strict about kids not using "gay" as an insult and a variety of things like that regarding gender, race, and sexuality. About a majority of these interventions were to do with inappropriate usage of the word "gay" specifically.

I had a three strikes policy per kid.

Strike one, I took the attitude that I was dealing with ignorance. I would take it as a learning opportunity and give them a short explanation of why they shouldn't do that. Across eight years of teaching, I'd say 95% of the time people never got beyond that first strike, and I had some kids rom 6-8th grade later on.

Doing it this way was really effective, because I was also teaching the kids around them. When I was teaching 6th later, I'd have kids not involved in the incident come up to me quietly at lunch and thank me because they weren't sure what the word meant. I had others 6-8th thank me privately for making the room feal safer for them (though not in those words).

Doing it this way modelled for those kids how to intervene and what sorts of things to say if someone said something bigoted, and I was incredibly proud every time my kids spoke up when they heard slurs or the like.

Strike two, I came in a lot harder and there were consequences.

Strike three hardly ever happened. Like less than once a year.

The first time there was a strike three was that first year teaching for money in that little school where in the spring we had a choice of sweltering with closed windows and no air-conditioning or the horrific smell of that much cattle poop smell from surrounding farms.

Boy1 said something homophobic. Again. I started my prepared third strike reprimand.

Boy1: Who cares! no one in here is gay!

Boy2, one of the most popular kids in the grade, sitting right behind him at a computer turned around and said with contempt: how would you know! No one would tell you! Everyone knows you're a homophobe.

Boy1 snapped his mouth shut and never did it again.

In the 1700s, blood transfusion was used to treat psychosis. Oddly, sometimes it worked.

Answer: A particularly common form of psychosis occurred in the final stage of infection with syphilis. Syphilis is an uncommon bacteria in that is is extremely sensitive to temperature- so sensitive that a high fever greatly reduced or even eliminated infection with the bacteria. In fact, once quinine became available to treat malaria, which caused repeated high fevers, intentional infection with malaria was used to cure syphilis, which would then be treated with quinine. But in the 1700s, they (Europeans, at least) didn't have quinine yet.

So how did a blood transfusion treat syphilis? Well, in the 1700s, blood transfusions were not done with human blood- they were done with animal blood, usually lamb or calf blood. Since biblically calf or lamb blood was pure and contributed to the sweet nature of the animals, it was thought that if given to someone who was experiencing paranoia and hallucinations, the psychotic symptoms would decrease. This was not the case.

The amounts were usually small enough that the person didn't die. But it did cause frequent transfusion reactions. These reactions frequently caused high fevers, which treated the syphilis and helped decrease the symptoms caused by it.
