With just a single gym badge left to earn, it's time to go back to Glaseado Mountain, where our final Gym Leader waits for us!
Heading out from Montenevera, we're heading even further up the slopes of the mountain- towards a gym with no town, it's just the battle ahead.
At this point, none of the trainers around us can stop us! We have a ton of strong Pokémon by our side, and I feel confident in how I use them. It's not long before I reach the Glaseado Gym.
What a view of the rest of the region! But of course, I'm not ready to battle yet, I have more training to do. The main result of which is...
Our newest team member is now a Coalossal! When I saw @pokemonblack3white3 suggest the excellent name of Razzmatazz, I couldn't resist. And now he's as strong as he needs to be, especially with an Ice gym as our next challenge!
Inside the gym, who else is waiting for us, but our neighbour and rival Nemona. She's heard on the grapevine that we're about to challenge our final gym, and oh boy is she excited! She's not even worried about us, Nemona is certain that we'll win, and it's nice to have someone with so much faith in us. She heads on out, and it's time for the Gym Test.
Grusha, the Gym Leader of Glaseado, is a former snowboarder! So of course, we have to do something similar for the Gym Test. And it's pretty fun! We slide down the slopes with Koraidon, sliding through the gates with ease- let's hope Grusha is impressed! There are no gym trainers in this gym, so after an easy test, we're ready for the main event.
This is the team we're going in with! Razzmatazz was such a perfect last minute addition here, so I'm excited to use him, and then we have a mix of Pokémon with super effective moves and our two excellent support Eeveelutions. We're ready!
Grusha comes out onto the battle court, a little gruff, but seeming at least a little impressed by our performance on the slopes. But apparently Grusha is going to be teaching us a harsh lesson! We'll see how true that is.
Razzmatazz starts of the battle for us, and Grusha sends in Frosmoth! Knowing that Grusha has a team filled with Ice types, I decide we should set up Stealth Rock, while Frosmoth sets up Tailwind. That's fine by me! We then go for Ancient Power, as Razzmatazz dodges Frosmoth's Blizzard, and brings it down to red health! We're immediately punished for that good luck though, as the very next turn, Frosmoth lands its Blizzard- with a critical hit and a freeze too. Razzmatazz takes about 40% here, and although we're frozen, we can take another Blizzard, so we stay in and hope for the defrost. And our luck swings back again! Frosmoth misses the next Blizzard, and Razzmatazz does defrost as we go for a Flame Charge and KO the bug! Tailwind also runs out here, leaving us in a good position when Beartic comes in.
Now Razzmatazz is a little beaten up, and I know that Beartic may have some coverage for him, so we switch out, sending in Prism as Beartic lands an Earthquake- and another critical! Prism takes about a third, and now we're going to have to take some risks. I need to weaken the bear before I can safely bring in a Pokémon to KO it- but I also want Prism to be in good health in case I need him later in the battle. So here's what I do. We start by Charming Beartic, halving its Attack as it lands an Icicle Crash. Then, we risk a crit- that doesn't come, thankfully- and Yawn. Prism is now looking a little rough, with about a third of his health left, so while Beartic falls asleep I switch to Buff, whose Focus Sash will guarantee survival even if it crits again. It doesn't, thankfully, and Beartic falls asleep. This lets us safely switch back to Prism, who can now Wish and Charm with relative safety! We still risk a critical as we wait for the first Wish to heal us up, but Beartic also has to wake up- and it doesn't. By the time it does, Prism is at around 95% health, and Beartic has been Charmed again! We're in a lot better shape. Another Charm makes the bear as weak as can be, and we then go for another Yawn, while it does minimal damage with its Icicle Crashes. Then we set up a Wish, and Beartic falls asleep. Now we change gears, and go on the offensive!
While Beartic naps, I send Buff back in, catching the Wish and bringing him back up to full health- meaning the Focus Sash is active again. Beartic doesn't get to even try and do damage though, as Buff then outspeeds and KOs with Rock Slide! Two down, two to go. Then Grusha sends in Cetitan, another powerful physical attacker, but we're safe to go for another Rock Slide without fear of dying- and Buff manages to flinch his opponent! This sets us up to KO Cetitan with Accelerock- thanks to the chip damage from Stealth Rock earlier- before it can even do a single point of damage.
Now Grusha is backed into a corner, and with one Pokémon left, we have a clear advantage! Out comes the ace Pokémon, Altaria, who also takes a quarter of its health in damage from Stealth Rock. Buff still has the Focus Sash though, so we don't have anything to fear as Altaria Terastalises to Ice! Buff's Rock Slide does plenty of damage, setting us up for another Accelerock KO next turn, while Altaria goes for the Dragon Pulse- not even doing half. And as Buff lets out one more powerful Rock move for the KO, we've earned our eighth and final gym badge!
Despite complaints, Grusha lets us take the customary photo and thanks us for the battle. And when we get back inside the gym building, we're expected it seems, as both Nemona and Geeta are waiting for us.
Huge congratulations and excitement from Nemona of course, and La Primera herself praises our perfomance too.
Geeta now lays out what the next step is on our journey to being a Champion- the Champion Assessment at the Pokémon League. When we're ready, we'll have to make our way over there to challenge the Elite Four, along with Geeta herself, before we can truly say we're equal to Nemona! I have faith we'll get there!
Nemona can't contain her excitement though, as she is ecstatic at the thought of a true equal her own age! She heads off to fine tune her team for the inevitable battle, if and when we manage Champion rank.
Geeta also wishes us well, and I'm sure we'll be seeing her soon, but we leave her behind for now as we have other matters to attend to first! The first of which is our victory egg!
This time, we have an egg from @zigdirty, the last person with more than one egg left unhatched. And this egg? Contains...
Snivy! One of my own favourite starter Pokémon! And yes, this one has Contrary! This will be a fun Pokémon to use for sure, with it being able to deal big damage and power itself up at the same time with Leaf Storm. Thank you very much for this one!
So what should we name it? We're running out of eggs to hatch, so get your nickname suggestions in while they're still needed! But we're not done with our journey just yet, and we won't be heading to the Pokémon League next time either. In fact, next time will be our long anticipated return to Operation Starfall, as we'll be facing down another Team Star boss! See you all then!
One Legendary and one all time classic Pokémon, but which one will be the victor?
Gyarados has been a classic for 30 years, and Mega Gyarados is a fierce new form of the beast! Lysander uses it as his ace Pokémon in X and Y, and it's pretty fitting considering its new Dark typing. With 30 extra stat points in each of its defenses and its Attack, it can tear through opponents with ease and take plenty of punishment too. In fact, it can split large ships in two as it soars above the water at Mach speed- destructively spraying water from both sides of its body. And its power isn't being restrained by its brain any longer either! The only brain function that doesn't cease upon mega evolution is its anger and ferocity as it goes on a rampage. This creature isn't just dangerous, its life threatening to anyone standing in their way, practically a force of nature! Are you a fan of this terrifying update of one of Generation 1's premier Water types?
One of the most important new Megas to come from Legends Z-A is Mega Zygarde! The long overshadowed third member of X and Y's Legendary trio finally got a form more powerful than anything Xerneas or Yveltal could possibly muster. It doesn't get the 100 extra stat points when mega evolving that every other Mega does- but frankly it doesn't need it when it has the highest Special Attack of all Pokémon ever, at a ridiculous 216. This is also matched by its HP, the highest of any Ground type and the 5th highest of any Pokémon. Using that power, it unleashes devastating blasts from its cannon, in a manner similar to Alola's Z-moves, with the move Nihil Light- the only Mega exclusive move. It has 200 power with no drawback, and even ignores Fairy types' normal immunity to Dragon moves. Frankly, it's a delete button. Mega Zygarde only really appears in response to people's emotions during an unprecedented crisis, and in spite of its enormous power, it can calm people down with ease. Honestly one of the most powerful beings we've ever seen in this series, does it earn your vote after its heroism in Legends Z-A?
Just three matches left in this Round, but we're not slowing down!
Mega Chandelure was introduced in Legends Z-A, as the ace Pokémon of the character Gwynn, and it's a very powerful new form for the fan favourite Gen 5 classic! Now an elaborate 2-tiered chandelier, Mega Chandelure absorbs hatred and converts it into power- and there's clearly plenty to go around, judging by its huge 175 Special Attack! That's the highest of any Ghost or Fire type, and is tied with Mega Alakazam for the highest of any non-Legendary Pokémon as well. You may have also noticed that one of Mega Chandelure's eyes has changed colour due to mega evolution too, but that's not just an aesthetic change. That eye is not just an eye now- it's a window to the afterlife! Truly amplifying the ghostly parts of this Ghost type, maybe don't look too close- but maybe give it a vote?
Well, the other option this match is perhaps a Mega that few were expecting from the Mega Dimension DLC- it's Mega Crabominable! Now reared up on back legs encased in ice while it wields huge, heavy hammer-like pincers, Mega Crabominable can pulverise reinforced concrete with just the lightest swing of its pincers! With 157 in its Attack, that's clear to anyone on the other end of the battlefield! It also gains significant defensive power upon mega evolution, with an extra 45 in its Defense and 40 in its Special Defense, making it hard to take down as well as hard to survive. The only downside to its mega evolution is a slight decrease in its mobility, with it having to rely on its huge pincers to help propel itself forward. But when you hit that hard, is that much of a downside? Are you a fan of Mega Crabominable? And does its immense strength earn some respect- and some votes?

In the southwest corner of Paldea lies our next challenge, the penultimate gym badge! So we head south from where we fought the Titan Bombirdier all that time ago, and make our way to this huge cavern we'll have to cross in order to get there.
It's gonna be a bit of a trek!
I've got a good few Pokémon in the box at this point that I really want to get trained up- some of them will be able to fight now, and some are just a few level caps away from their full potential. That means we're going into battle with a couple of weaker party members in the back! And these trainers are strong, so I'm going to have to be extra careful today.
There are many, many trainers along the road, and lots of items to collect too. But I'm happy to report that we got through the cave without casualty- and on the last battle before we reached our destination, we had a big evolution!
The newest member of the box, our Mareep, evolved not once, but twice on the road to the gym! I've chosen to name them Goldenrod, as suggested by @tall-bearded-fool, for the colour, the city in Ampharos' home region, and it also brings to mind (for me at least) the ability Lightning Rod that is usually associated with Electric types, and also the Olivine lighthouse- where the most famous Ampharos resides.
But it's just a few paces further before we end up in the beautiful town of Alfornada!
It's a town that reminds me of my own experiences in Spain when I visited many years ago at this point. And it holds challenges ahead!
That means it's time for more training, so after I heal up, it's back to the cavern for raising up our Pokémon even more.
We even get another evolution, with Tundora becoming a Glalie! It's nice to have the addition of an Ice type, and it's good he's now more on par with the rest of the team.
So, with some training done, I head to the gym building, only to find someone waiting for us. Yep, that's right, it's Nemona! And she's not mucking about this time, it's time to fight!
She leads with Lycanroc, and we lead with our Gliscor, Claret. It's an easy match up, with a single Earthquake handling the dog! Next up is Sliggoo, who manages to get some damage off with Dragon Pulse after it survives one Earthquake- but it doesn't withstand a second. Nemona's third Pokémon, Pawmot, doesn't even manage that much! With Claret having torn through most of her team, as Nemona sends in Meowscarada, we counter with Pink the Dipplin. Meowscarada can't do a thing to us, so Pink just chips away and finishes the battle with Dragon Pulse.
An easy win later, and Nemona is off on her way. Apparently at this late in the gym challenge, only around 10% of challenges are still earning badges- and we should be proud of that! I expect we'll be seeing Nemona again in battle before too long...
Now, on to the gym test! And it's being led by someone unexpected...
Dendra, one of the teachers from the Academy, helps out Gym Leader Tulip with her gym test!
Apparently Dendra lost a battle against Tulip when they were younger, and the loser had to do whatever the winner wanted. We're not given any more details and instead are left to infer the rest... Hm...
Anyway! For our test this time, we're doing Emotional Spectrum Practice, or ESP. We just have to copy Dendra's expression and then battle a couple of trainers. Piece of cake! The second trainer does push us a little, but with Prism by our side, it's hard for us to go wrong.
But now, the gym test is cleared and it's time for the main event. Here's the team we're heading in with:
I needed bulk and power, and moves good on the Psychic type! This one was a little tricky to narrow down, but let's hope my choices were the right ones.
We meet Tulip, busy on a phone call about her cosmetics brand. Seems she's not just a gym leader! But she likes our style and gives us her full attention- and it's time to fight.
Tulip starts with Farigiraf, and we start with Claret! We're faster, doing about a third of its health with Night Slash, as it does about a quarter with Zen Headbutt. We follow up with another hit, bringing it down in range of one more hit as it goes for Reflect! We won't be able to knock it out with another attack now, which could be awkward. So I opt for a U-Turn, switching in Prism, who's immune to the incoming Zen Headbutt, and we finish it off with Dark Pulse.
Tulip's next Pokémon is Gardevoir, whose Fairy typing is a little scary for the team! I don't have great answers to Fairy types right now, but we go to Coffee, who takes about 40% from a Moonblast. We can survive a critical hit because of our Leftovers, so I decide we need Light Screen. And it's a good thing I checked that Coffee survives a critical hit, because the next Moonblast does just that- leaving Coffee with 7 HP! We have Light Screen up though, so we can take more hits with our other Pokémon. Scary, but good job Coffee! I bring in Ash, who tanks a hit well, then fires off a Shadow Ball, leaving Gardevoir with just a sliver of health! It goes for an Energy Ball, which was a little frightening, but Ash remains just over half HP. We Aqua Jet for the KO.
Next up is Espathra, and we go straight to Prism, avoiding a Shadow Ball on Ash! The bird can't do much to Prism, and we're healing slowly with Leftovers too, so it gives us a chance to put ourselves in a better position for Tulip's ace afterwards. I knock Espathra down to about 40% with Dark Pulse, and then we click Wish. We switch over, back to Claret, who takes the hit and heals back up to full from the Wish! This leaves us in the perfect spot to KO Espathra with Night Slash, and Claret still has full HP for the final Pokémon.
And it's Florges! Knowing it's going to Terastalise immediately, we go for Night Slash- Claret goes first and does about 40%- but then Florges attacks too, and does 40% back. Light Screen is gone at this point, and though Claret is holding the Assault Vest to mitigate some damage, this flower is strong! Now we have a problem. If Florges survives the next hit and lands a critical, then Claret is dead. Both Ash and Coffee are too weak to fight Florges, and Prism and Pink are weak to its Fairy moves. Goldenrod could take a hit, but then we'd be back to the same problem again of risking the critical, and Goldenrod isn't as fast as Claret either.
I weigh up all my options. Ultimately, I decide that using U-Turn to switch will just put me in another bad spot next turn. I have to risk the critical now, and we also have a better chance of landing a critical hit with Night Slash anyway! Maybe we won't need to take another hit?
Night Slash lands. No critical. Florges goes for Psychic and...
No critical! Claret survives in red health, but that's all we need to outspeed next turn and pick up the final knockout with one more Night Slash!
And with that, we earn our next badge!
That was a bit close at points, but no deaths is always something to be proud of. Great job team!
Back at the gym building, Rika is waiting for us again- and she's brought a very small friend!
This is Poppy, and she's a member of the Elite Four?? She must be very talented to be there at her age. She claims to be stronger than us- which is probably true for now- but she looks forward to fighting us later!
We've now met 3 members of the Elite Four, and the Top Champion too! A lot of people believe in us, so we have to make it all the way.
And helping us with that is our next order of business- an egg! As our reward, we're hatching this egg from @pokemonblack3white3, and it's...
