Training EVs in Paldea is not bad given that EV training items show up early. Did I mess up anyway? Yes. Is that a problem? Not a permanent one. Thank goodness EV reducing berries are a thing. Alternatively, I can breed Pokemon, which I would want to learn to do anyway for IV reasons.
Also, I am actually looking to be getting places at a reasonable pace.
So I caved and jumped to modern Pokemon. Scarlet is a heck of a departure from Platinum. Being able to avoid wild Pokemon, not getting dragged into battles, having my Pokemon box available all the time, the sheer variety of Pokemon early on. It's wild.
I like Paldea's Pokemon Centers. They remind me of ... I originally thought concession stand, but gas station is the unfortunate link I have stumbled into. Good Heavens me, a covered but otherwise open "business" (I think the centers have wide roofs and central supports) for pedestrians would be neat. Too many cars and roads for it to really take off in my area (also this damn ongoing pandemic; is it still a pandemic?), but for walking communities in warmer climates, it seems great.
I'm not sure how to feel about the default exp share. I'm not even sure if there's a way to focus exp or how that interacts with EVs. Also, heck to the EV tracking for now, I gotta just play.
... I should take that stance with Sinnoh too.
I just realized that I can make posts for some value of EV tracking.
My Turtwig has one Chimchar worth of EVs. I think that translates to 1 attack EV. I'll need to check.
…nope, it's speed.
…I should consider making individual pokémon profiles.
It has taken me way too long to get around to choosing my starter. This is made worse by the fact that I knew well in advance that I was going to take this slow and steady with turtwig.
For better or for worse, my turtwig has a mild nature. For a more physically tanky pokemon, I feel like this is less than ideal since that means he'll have weaker defense. On the flip side, the boosted special attack may make absorb and its upgraded moves more useful. Whether they'll be better or worse than leech seed will be interesting to learn.
But that's a fair way off.
Where is that bit about strong Pokemon and weak Pokemon being less relevant than Pokemon that are beloved?
I thought I could start this morning, but I ended up leaving my DS sleeping all day. Couldn't even work up the energy to skim through the menus.
Oh well.
I've started now, and maybe I'll regret using Heather as my name here or calling my friend Paul, but the game has begun. My Pokémon adventure begins.
